Don’t blame you mate. I used just a normal black games workshop paint and then a coat of glossy varnish. Haven’t used the painted Tigers consistently yet but it seems to have done the trick. Time will tell…

Hey Jeremy, great to hear from you regarding this project. Do you have a copy of the new AA1941 yet? If so, how do you rate the new Tiger Tank units? And how do they compare to your FMG German Combat Unit Tigers? Many thanks.

    • RE: AAA

Okay, thanks for the replies. The way we have been playing it is: the defending AAA unit(s) fire at all the attacking aircraft that they can. Then any surviving aircraft are placed on the battlestrip along with all the other attacking and defending units.

So, I think I should put the AAA unit(s) in column 1 of the Defender’s side before the combat begins. Then roll for my AAA unit(s) if there are any attacking aircraft and remove casualties immediately. Then regular combat begins but the AAA unit(s) cannot fire any more.

@Wittmann - Thanks yes, I am keeing a keen eye on the prices but I wasn’t particularly impressed by some of the feedback that that seller had received in the past. Will keep you posted.

    • RE: 42.1 vs 42.2 Map?

I much prefer this new map to the older one. I love the additions of new territories and sea zones, and the fact that French Indochina Thailand/Malaya are no longer connected to Kwangtung. I like the interaction of the territories on the eastern front.

Maybe a vote option could be added to this thread?  :-)

    • RE: AAA

Hey guys, it says in the rulebook that AAA units can be taken as casualties in regular combat but it doesn’t really give any more info as to how this happens. Do AAA units get placed on the battlestrip along with your other units? Their name is not listed on the Defender’s side. How have you guys been playing it? Curious and somewhat confused, many thanks.

    • RE: 1942SE at GenCon was awesome.

Looks like WOTC used the same ship models that FMG used in their set, except for the transport.
I found the new Italian tank interesting. It sort of looks like the Carro Armato P-40. Perhaps this could be Italy’s medium or heavy tank?

I was wondering the same thing about the Italian ships - do you think WotC have used FMG Italy Combat Units for these?! Crazy if that’s the case!

I have no idea what the Italian Tank is meant to be but yes we could certainly house rule it for a heavy.

    • RE: Rulebook unit profile changes

Hi Leo, I appreciate that mate. I just want more pieces so that the game is playable (need more Destroyers and Submarines). And I reckon at twenty quid off Amazon I can afford it. I’ll give the 2nd copy to my mate Jon (with some pieces from older games in it) 'cause he’s hooked on A&A now - you can tell by the dull look in his eyes nowadays that only ever light up when you mention a game of A&A to him.

Any chance the poll answer selections could be updated? Apparently, my most played game is Revised and I know for a fact I haven’t played that for about 7 years  lol

Funny blog and cool photos.  :-) I like the coloured units, lots of original colour on them - helps to differentiate them, very clever.

    • RE: Rulebook unit profile changes

I am thinking of being a second copy of AA1941 very soon, and when I get it I will go through both manuals page by page to try and find any discrepancies. I will report my findings back here…

    • RE: Unofficial 1942SE Game Inconsistencies Thread

      Another one:

On page 16, under Conduct Combat step 1: It says to place all units on either side of the battle strip according to their attack & defence values and their silhouettes. There are no silhouettes on the battle strip.

Can this thread PLEASE be stickied so that Krieghund/Larry/any other A&A game developers can take for future reference?

      Thank you.

    • RE: Feature requests for TripleA

Okay, I have some suggestions. These are not bugs, they are merely ideas to help improve the whole experience - and I would be very grateful if they could be considered. Here goes:

1 - When viewing all of the combatants in a given embattled game space using the ‘Territory’ tab, would it be possible to line up each faction’s units side by side instead of underneath each other? My reason being is that the vertical list of units is sometimes so long that it goes off the bottom of the screen. This in effect creates a scroll bar which would be fine except that you can’t manipulate/interact with it (in other words, you can’t scroll down the list). There is plenty of room in the pane to list all of the combatants side by side, and even type by type e.g.

      France        Germany

      6 Infantry      3 Infantry
      2 Artillery            -
      3 Tanks          6 Tanks

In my example above, Germany has no Artillery units in the battle and so only a ‘dash’ is displayed (-). My idea would capture all of the required data on the screen without having to scroll down.

2 - Would it please be possible to allow players to manage the size of the combat screen window? It is expandable, but seems to re-size itself every time it appears. This is a hassle because it often means that all the units that fire @ 4 are concealed by the ‘casualties’ section of the window. It would be great if players could re-size the window as required and then freeze it so that it reappears in the desired size every time. Again, this idea is simply to allow more information to be viewed with minimal fuss.

3 - Scenario: I have 1 sea unit to place and I click on an eligible sea zone to place it during the MNU phase. Can the ‘place unit’ interface please be amended so that 1 unit is automatically selected instead of having to click the ‘up’ arrow to select 1 unit manunally? Or even better, if the unit could just be dropped straight into the sea zone (without the interface having to appear)? This is intuitive and would save players a little bit of time and hassle. And I think it could be aaplied to all units; not just sea.

      Thanks very much for reading.

    • RE: What do you make of the new Strategic Bombing rules?

Am I right in thinking that any defending interceptors are removed immediately and completely from the air battle without being able to return fire if they are hit by the attacking bombers and/or escorts? This is what seems to be implied by the rules but I just want to be 100% sure. Thanks.

    • RE: A few questions from a new player

Hmmm, not really mate. The games produced to seem to be pretty reasonably balanced (or so I am led to believe). But basically, yes it’s 3 vs 2. It will always be a 5 player game in total but obviously you can have less players than that, so long as some players control more than one power (on the same side).

The Axis tend to start out quite strong militarily but with medium economies, whilst the Allies tend to begin with fewer combat units on the map but with larger economies. And so, over time, the Allies should emerge victorious if they can subdue the Axis and prevent further expansion. The Axis need to attack and make many gains in the early-gamein order to consolidate their positions.

    • RE: What do you make of the new Strategic Bombing rules?

Don’t forget guys, the escort/interceptor rules are OPTIONAL. I prefer not to use them myself but my group roll a die to decide whether we will include them in a new game or not.

    • RE: I do not understand the new anti aircraft guns rules

…I think it’s a bit weird that the initial set up for all powers in this game has all of the AAA units stationed in territories that have Industrial Complexes in them, even though they cannot defend those ICs from Strategic Bombing. (I am drawing my comparisons between 1942SE and Spring 1942). I think some of those AAA units should have been placed on the front lines along with the troops, to defend them against attacks by enemy air units.

So it looks to me like they literally just substituted all (or most) of the original AA Gun placements with the new AAA units but didn’t give much thought to what they were doing? I dunno, just seems to me that it may confuse new players to see all those AAA units stationed with Industrial Complexes.

      What do you think?

    • RE: Not enough units.. How many more?

I’m thinking about getting another copy of this game… if only for some extra Tiger Tanks. Because I painted all of my Japanese Tigers black and now have 10 black Tigers, it’s still only just enough to cover the initial set up for Germany in the 1942SE game. Which means that the German player would not be able to purchase any tanks on his/her 1st turn if the Soviet Union did not kill any of the German tanks already in the field. Hmmm, not good…

    • RE: A few questions from a new player

Hey jhett07, welcome to the boards mate, and glad you’re enjoying the game.  :-) Axis & Allies takes some dedication to master but you will love once you do eventually learn all the rules. However, I would really recommend reading the rulebook again from start to finish when you next get the chance. The wording takes some getting used to - especially if you’re new to the game - but I guarantee it will make a lot more sense the 2nd time around. Anyway, keep at it and let us know if you have any other queries.

You will enjoy those Tigers; they are awesome. I just really wish they’d given us Tigers in 1942SE too, I’m getting pretty tired of Panthers! lol
