Ah, I see the concept now. Thank you for explaining it to me. I was a paratrooper in the Army my wife tells me I fell on my head a few to many times thats why it takes so long for me to understand abstract thought

Sorry to get off topic, hope this didn’t derail the conversation to badly,

Good point. Then you said you keep them in the Baltic Sea Zone for the most part?

As Germany I would also write Norway off as  a loss, then I would try like h*** to take the Caucasus worth 4IPC’s and it also has an IC for more convenient troop deployment.

      That’s my two cents,

I must admit I don’t know the stats of what each plane are. So I would have to vote based on looks so I would say the P-38 b/c it just looks uniquely bad a** with the twin tales.

Wow, I always thought that God did view us as equals, just some of us are more loyal and others are more in left field.

So you tend to build a diverse navy. Do you buy any subs as fodder?

    • RE: Japan counters to a West Russia stack

For me it depends on how the game goes. As Japan I move like water does I take the path of least resistance. The US forces always fall fast with no reinforcements there, so I take those. If UK wants to be a pain and pull an Alamo trick in India, Persia, or Trans-Jordan I say let them. I stack INF or what ever else I can muster to create a stale mate there. For the most part Russia consolidates its eastern forces I tend to find it easier to mow them down b/c they don’t get reinforcements often So I tend to put pressure on Russia from Novosibirsk, and Evenki National Okrug. The Northern route puts pressure on Russia in two ways b/c they lose real estate and the IPC collection (as apposed to the UK on the southern route) and both ways you have troops waiting to take Moscow. Then who ever gets the most troops there first gets Moscow as the trophy.

      Hey Jen,

I know the national position of the Soviet Union was atheism, but were any religions allowed to be practiced? I ask b/c Korea has the same national policy but allow religion to exist to some degree.

OK so if you put the German Navy in the Baltic Sea do you consider buying DST’s and BTL ships for coastal bombardment for taking / strafing / retaking, Norway, Karelia S.S.R. and Eastern Europe? Or do you only keep a navy to primarily disrupt UK and US forces from gettin a foothold situation on mainland Europe?

I don’t know if I agree. If Russia took Norway using a series of 2 or 3 strafe attacks (if alone) the 3 extra IPC mean Russia gets an extra INF every turn with little to no effort after that b/c there is no new border created after that.

Be advised the only time Russia should consider that would be if Germany didn’t put stock in a Navy.

    • Getting started

      Hey all,

My buddies and I were wondering if we should give Mini’s a try. Just siting on the outside looking in I would say it looks a little more like a D&D game then a A&A game. If so thats fine I play both. I just had some noob questions.

      1. how to get started, how many units are recommended to start? How many of each unit are recommended?

      2. About how long does the game take to play? On the box of the A&A revised game it says 3 hours for a game. So I don’t think I can believe any thing Avalon Hill says about game times.

      3. Where do you get maps for the game?

      4. do you guys / gals like mini’s more then the other A&A games? How are they diffrent?

I know I have a lot of questions but I think you folks can handle it b/c I’m sure y’all had the same questions / concerns when you started. If you could give me the run down I would be thankful.

    • RE: Axis & Allies Guadalcanal September 2007

I am not to familiar with the battle didn’t know if the UK had a hand in the pie or not.

How do you think players will employ additional troops into the battle? I ask b/c I got the impression that it would be diffrent then the traditional way the other A&A games have in the past.

Does any one out there have any ideas or concepts they use for the Allied side of the board?

      Hey Nix,

What would a G1 purchase look like then if it were you? Also when you get your Navy where would you ideally deploy them?

    • RE: D-Day Strategy

I see your point. I was thinking it would be easy for the Allies to take Cherbourg b/c its so hard for the Germans to reinforce; althoe, the same rule would apply toward the end of the game.

Do you find you have a favorite battle group? I mean x INF, x ARM, x ART, I ask b/c you can only have 8 units per space in this one. Or do you just take what you can get b/c the reinforcement table and dice decide what you get?

See in A&A classic and in some cases in revised you can use deployment strategies like shuck-shuck to get troops to the war, here the whole battle concepts are just different enough most of those don’t apply.

      Let me be more specific:

I use the Luft Waffe to strafe the Allied Navy on combat movement. Then on NCM I move them back to the front line to reinforce. I think this way gets the most blood for the buck, serving both the land and sea.

      Hey all,

I have never chosen to have the Germans build a navy when Russia was still in play I would always put troops on the front line to make a stale mate. As I would do that I would buy fighters to strafe any allied navy nearby. So my question is when would you buy the Navy what ever you decide it should be? Should it be sooner or a few turns into the game after the line is drawn between Germany and Russia?

I don’t just give up any real estate if it can be helped however, I would prefer to hold my IC’s both of them are on the front line.
