I would comment to Jen’s post that if you take the Africa route and lets assume that Germany is now forced to reckon with Russia faster then they normally would that Germany now runs the risk of having to take gambles they wouldn’t have considered before thus also leading to the Allies favor.

Like I said before if I was Germany I wouldn’t break my back to take Karelia if it was reinforced I’d rather have the Caucasus b/c its worth as much as Karelia and Archangel together plus it has an IC, and then the icing on the cake is that now your front with Russia’s capital has just doubled.

I defiantly think you would curb Germany’s appetite for N Africa if the Allies insist that they must have it. But do you think that you would rather give Germany the illusion the allies are not intrested and then pounce like a rabid junkyard dog?

I’m just saying if I was Germany and I thought the Allies were going to put up a fight for Africa I would rather consintrate recourses in other avenues, for example a Navy or a kick a** Luft Waffe.

      What do you think?

    • RE: Getting started

Sorry to keep bugging you mini’s vets with what must seem like remedial questions. So OK 15 units I understand would be a great start.

1 ) Whats a ball park figure as to how much that would cost?

2 ) What would a good starting line up consits of for units? I’m not even sure what kind of units there are there a site I could look at that can ID all the units and their stats?

      thanks guys/gals,

      Hey All,

I was wondering do any of you fine ladies and gents know where I could find a 8.5’’ by 11’’ version of the A&A game boards? It sure would help me get a better visual of some of the concepts we throw back and forth without having to get out my full size board. Any help I would be thankful,

I imagine it would be. I would suppose you would land all INF on the first wave series, then all ARM on the second wave series. then bring any air support after that. All of this assuming that Algeria is Allied held, and that the mission is all about Persia.

Hmm…… Didn’t know that. For the most part I do my gaming on XBox, PS2 and other consoul systems. Now that I think about it I do all my shooter games on console and strategy games like Warcraft, Red Alert on PC.

    • RE: R1 - To Defend ARC or LEN or not?

Sorry I let this one get away. I mentioned earlier about making 2 or 3 strafing runs to take Norway and Jen said that no one should have to. What I was saying is that it could behove Russia to take Norway using that method of approach. We all agree its bad if Russia gets Norway, I think that through a series of strafing runs thats Russia can take Norway and not necessarily compromise its defensive posture in Karelia S. S. R.

But now that I look at the starting setup that idea is better in theory then in practice. Just wanted to make my point clear.

Other A&A games can take several games just to under stand the basics of what the units do. Then several more games to figure out why you loosing so badly. Then several more games to formulate a strategy. Then several more games to formulate a strategy that works. Do you guys think that Mini’s are that complicated?

I gather from what you guys are saying that you can’t just go to a hobby shop and say I want x of these and x of those? You just have the baseball card pack approach of buying units (aside from e-bay)

I have never seen a US push to hold Persia like you guys are saying. I have seen the US send a meager force to “assist” the UK in taking and holding Africa but never a full blown assult beating down Japan’s mainland army. For the most part I’ve seen the US send troops mostly INF to Norway and and reinforce Russian positions until one of the allies gets the gusto to take it to Berlin or reinforce until there is a sizeable force on the Russian / German front so Russia can afford to send troops else where to hold whatever it has left. Even then Russia won’t take much from Japan b/c it will take all Russia has left just to hold whats there.

Jen your exactly right in theory, but If the US player is the “babysitter” for the less experienced UK, and Russia player US might need every extra IPC it can get to hold all 3 allied capitals. Food for thought.

    • RE: Life Stories

      All right here I go.

I was born in souther California. No I’m not Mexican (but I do love their food). I’m as wight as the snow we got here yesterday. (yes it was Easter sunday here too.) I was the oldist son to a mother who was and still is an emotional terrorist, and a father who drinks like a fish and those ladies and gents were their good habits. We moved our way north through a series of bankruptcies forclosures till we made it north of Sacramento, California. On 12 DEC 1998 my father left us, for a younger single woman who had no kinds that looked shockingly like my mom. After that my younger brother (and only sibling) was in and out of juvy.

Summer of my junior year of high school I took the GED test and enlisted in the US Army. I finished basic and most of my job skill training (called AIT [Advanced Individual Training]) before my would be class mates started their Senior year. Later the Army decided to “down size” the “Topographic Corps of Engineers” (yes the army does have such an animal), and they decided for me I would be better suited as a supply sergeant. I didn’t know this then but yes there are jobs in the army you can qualify for if you are not smart enough (as determined by the ASVAB) to be an Infantryman, supply is that job.

So I followed orders and went to Fort Lee, VA. After that  they sent me to my new first duty station, Fort Drum, NY. I went to Afghanistan and got hurt by one of those lovely IED’s you hear so much about in the news. So they sent me to Uzbekistan to Italy, to Germany, to England where I got on a troop transport to take me to the Washington Navel Yard so I could go to Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC). Spent some time there before they sent me back to Fort Drum to clear post. I was going to be medically discharged. 18 months later it was final and I was discharged. In that time I met my wife we got married and bought a house in the area.

As instructed by the Army I sent my records to the VA hospital near here. My records were handled in the order they were received, so about 2 years later I had my first medical appointment after separation I didn’t have to pay for. Yes didn’t have to pay for. They told me my records were amended and instead of being 40% disabled and medically retired I was 0% disabled b/c it was determined that the nerve damage in my left leg, ankle, lower back and right tricep may have been there before I enlisted. How they came to that conclusion I’ll never know b/c they won’t tell me.

So if I agreed to pay the Army back the full amount of what they gave me under my medically retied status they agreed not to press criminal charges. (wasn’t that nice). Now My wife and I were on the verge of bankruptcy and along with that will always come marriage troubles. Some how we stuck together and made it through. We paid the Army back, paid all the medical bills for physical therapy and all that other fun stuff, and by an act of God stayed current with our mortgage.

I have been out of the service now for 4 years this SEP. Things are going a lot better oddly enough this SEP will be my 5 wedding anniversary and our first child will be born.

Looking back at what I wrote that sounds all gloom and doom and I should be a very bitter person but I’m not all you can do is roll with the punches or get pissed off about being punched, no point in being both if you can help it.

Now I work at a Nuke Plant nearby. I love this job and it pays awesome. In the end it all worked out. So thats me in a nut shell.

No what I meant was do you keep the Navy you place in the Baltic sea or do you have the ambition to move it to SZ 6 or 7? Its obvious you would to kill off any unprotected or ill deafened Navy, but do you keep them in the Baltic sea for the most part to keep them out of the way so you can pounce on any US Navy you can see coming for 1 or 2 turns out as you please or do you make them an active force raising h*** in SZ’s 3, 6, and 7?

    • RE: Japan counters to a West Russia stack

Jen I agree with you but I think if US were to do that a good Japan player would see it coming at least 2 or 3 turns out before the US got to Persia. Lets say for sake of discoution that Japan got blind sided when US troops landed in Algeria b/c s/he thought that they were going to Norway. For a tank its one more turn to Anglo-Egypt, and another to Persia. If Japan had a good TRNS fleet in SZ 61, or SZ 60 (as any good Japan player would) and a sizable standing Army on Japan (I’m using Japan as an example to illustrate the fact thats as far away as Japan can possibly get and still be able to produce troops if they still control their capital and have no IC’s on the mainland) when US troops get to Algeria, its one turn for TRNS to SZ 36 troops can unload in French Indochina and the next turn the tanks can move to Persia before the US gets there.

      Lets me explain the easier:

US to Algeria, Japan to SZ 36 and unload in French Indochina, US to Anglo-Egypt by tank, Japan to Persia by tank, now you have a dead zone in Trans-Jordan and if Japan did it right you have now created a stale mate if for even a short time.

I guess this strategy would only work it you use what I call the Ho Chi Min trail technique. I love this strategy here is a good example of how to implament it. Lets say UK builds a IC in Union of S. Africa and buys 2 ARM every turn for it. Every turn following 2 ARM move to Anglo-Egypt from there they can move to Persia, Algeria or French W. Africa and can reinfore 2 ARM every turn after. The reason I said all that is b/c this momentum train is a vital concept of the game. Japan and the US have just as far to go to get to get to Trans-Jordan from their capitals. Yes $ for $ the US would probably win but what I’m trying to say is that Japan doesn’t have to make it easy for them, and has the ability to make that decision.
