      @Col.Stauffenberg:

      I want to try this out. I like the idea of being only 2 spaces aways from Western Europe.

      Keep in mind that 2 spaces is a good attack run distance for German FTR’s to hit and run back to W Europe.

    • RE: Plastic Playing Pieces

      How many of what units do we think we need per set?

      I was thinking that we should count the total’s up from both '41 & '42 scenarios and use the highest number from each and do this country by country.

      Example lets say Russia has 21 INF in '41 and 25 INF in '42 we will have 25 INF come in the set.
      If Russia has 29 ARM in '41 and 18 ARM in '42 we’ll go with 29.

      Bottom line what I would like to see is if I don’t want to use chips in the starting set up I don’t have to.

      Maybe I’m putting the cart before the horse…  :|

    • RE: Which would have been a better Ally to Germany?

      @dezrtfish:

      I agree with the turkey’s… Ah that is the people that voted for Turkey.  Especialy early in the war.  It would have put alot more pressure on the brits and maybe Romel could have pulled something off in Egypt.  Of course the aditional pressure on the USSR later would have been helpful the the axis cause.  I think Spain would have been another weaker Italy.

      Of course all that has been said though, I thought I would add my $ .02

      I’m glad to see this fish come up for air

      Comment about legal issues:

      A good friend of mine is a lawyer that specilizes in business / corperate law.  When I presented our case (pun intended) he said look at what the company Mad Catz does with Nintendo Wii, Microsoft X-Box 360 and Sony Playstation.

      They simply make “tools” that work with those systems that the owning companies do not.  They don’t pretend to the official company they got there logo’s stamped all over their products.

      He also said the same goes for aftermarket parts for vehicles.  He reminded me of what my company did this year.  My company wanted to buy fog light upgrades for 6 new Toyota Tundra’s we bought this year.  Toyota doesn’t make any such kit.  You get it from the factory with or without them.

      We purchased aftermarket kits through a local Toyota dealer and they installed them.

      Long post short:  You / we just can’t come across like we are the official Avalon Hill / WOTC / Harris Game Design groups.  We have to clearly state that we are (or Field Marshal Games in this case) is who they are and are not pretending to be another legal entity.

      Frimmel, that was an awesome site.

      But I don’t think that’s a game I’d get into.  I’m thinking of getting Conquest of the Empire or Age of Mythology next.

      @frimmel:

      Ahhh…

      Now I understand. You guys are envisioning some sort of schuck-schuck. How is that working out in practice? I have yet to see any sort of transport chain effectively put into place.

      I agree with you that transportation in this one are very hard to master.  I think it all stems from the “load then move” for the sea units that carry land units.

      I’d consider buying a set but not as high as $500.00

    • RE: Which 1 is better

      When I made my observation I didn’t use the auxilary conditions (tactics and strategy cards) I thought this could sway the game in the same way the NO and Tech do in revised and AA50.

      When I first started thinking the game was slanted to the Axis I played the Allies every time vs. players who have never heard of A&A.

      I’m not saying I’m god’s gift to the A&A world but since I have been playing for over 10 years I thought I would have a leg up on a newby.

      I also made it a point to only play 2 player games.  I thought that since the allies would be able to coordinate better this would also help.

      I think a better way to balance the game would be to make it 15 rounds instead of 10.

      The best part of A&A D-Day is that it goes by very quickly.  You could probably play a game in under an hour.  Each round goes by faster and faster and events happen.  For example the allied airborne drops are first turn only, allied bombers get shot down, allied fighters get shot down, Axis blockhouses that fire at sea zones get destroyed and lastly reinforcments run out.  By the 10th round you could have removed a half dozen cards out of the deck.

      Don’t get me wrong I like the D-Day game but out of all the times I have played it I have never seen the allies win.  It has to be the most unbalanced game in the A&A group.

      If you like getting into the logistics of shipping units AACG is a good one.  If not I’d lean toward BOTB.

      I own all three you mentioned and would have to say I’d put D-Day at the bottom of my list.

      I have seen it (and by that I mean the box).  I have not heard any bad things about this game but I have no idea what the plot is.

      Could someone give me a discription of the game concept.

      Maddog77,

      Welcome to the forum.  I’m glad to hear you were able to rekindle your A&A passion.  The best part of A&A I have found is to teach a younger generation how to enjoy it as well.

    • RE: Victory Conditions

      @frimmel:

      I don’t know that it is a bad idea but the real problem is that it is hard to play the Allies not that victory is too easy for the Axis. Most games are about taking ground not orderly retreat. It is tough to grasp.

      You described that very “interestingly.” (If there is such a word.)

      I don’t know as I would even describe A&A D-Day as meeting that discription even though it’s the only other A&A game that comes close.

      The Axis and the Allies have very diffrent objectives in this game.  As such they would have to go about them diffrently.  In any other A&A game you can almost jump into any other player seat and do alright (if you know the game.)  In this one you may have players that are better at the Axis then the Allies and vise-versa.

      You just gave me a whole new dinamic to think about with this game, thanks.

    • RE: Obama, FOCA, Catholic hospitals and abortion

      It has been my experience with my local “Catholic hospital” that the hospital is not owned by the Catholic church just its by-law writers, founder(s), board of directors, etc. may all be Catholic, but the hospital itself does not have an endorsement.

      It’s no different then if you and started a construction company and called it “Christian Brothers Construction.” We may both be Christian but our company in not necessarily endorsed by a religious sect.

      However, this isn’t always the case there are several Catholic owned hospitals in the US.  They function very similar to some Catholic schools.  They still have a board of directors who appoints a CEO and other positions as outlined in there by-laws.

      With the way tax laws are in the US being owned and supported by a religious sect they may now receive governmental funding (not that others can’t they just have a lot less hoops to jump through).

      The local governments would rather not have to support their own hospital so it’s easier to make a deal with a local group to shoulder the responsibility of day-to-day functions in exchange for so many dollars per year.

      I’m sure others may disagree this is just my very limited observations as an emergency responder.

      Krieghund since you brought up damaged ships…

      Do they return at the end of the Sea combat?  Are they limited to two space movements to get there?

      Thanks in advance.
