    • RE: Help me find a pic of this (modern) military vehicle

After talking to some long lost friends in the Army Engineering community I found that the CEE truck was replaced with the much larger HMEE built by JCB.

Here is a link to a video of the newly commisioned HMEE if you are interested.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYYYXayhxHE

After a little research I found that they cost around $278,500 (USD) each.  It doesn’t seem practicle to have one as a commercial contractor; however, for what it can do, plus the extra cost of putting armor on it I don’t think it’s a bad buy also considering its life span is double that of a civilian equivalent.

In a horizontal engineering company in the US Army it will also have several DUCE’s (Deployable Unarmored Combat Excavator’s) and ACE’s (Armored Combat Excavator).

So you may find one of these since the Army uses keywords in every title.

      Just FYI:

The DUCE looks like a normal bulldozer with a flat verticle blade and triangle rubber tracks.

The ACE looks find of like the old APC’s we used to have.  It has metal linked tracks and looked like a shoe box.

    • Help me find a pic of this (modern) military vehicle

      Hey all,

I am looking for a picture of a CEE truck that the US Army Corps of Engineers use.  CEE stands for Combat Earthmoving Excavator.  It sits on a 1.25 ton frame with 4 wheel independent suspension  same as the HMMWV.

The front of the vehicle has a two seater cab that looks like a dump truck because of how the roll bar sits above the cab.

The rear of the vehicle typically has a backhoe attachment that when folded up on it self looks like a cripled wing. The front normally has a bucket.

The unit itself is has metric sizes but the attachments are made up of standard sizes.  They are ment to be able to take off and add new or diffrent attackments.  For example they may take the bucket off of the front and replace it with a fork-lift attachment.

If any one knows where I could find a picture of one it would be much Appreciated.

I am kind of supprised not to have seen the exchange between Winston Churchill and Lady Astor…

Lady Astor was known as a fierce debater. The famous exchange between Winston Churchill and Lady Astor took place when they were both staying at Blenheim Castle visiting the Marlboroughs. The two politicians had been at each other’s throat all weekend when Lady Astor said, “Winston, if I were your wife I’d put poison in your coffee.” Whereupon Winston said, “Nancy, if I were your husband I’d drink it.”

I would argure that the address was correct.  Here is a link to the La Moncloa home page.

Move to the very bottom of the screen it says:

How does USSR get FIC?  UK can get it, but USSR?

I agree.  The USSR would have to send its INF from nearby locations and its most valuable assets its two FTR’s.

I don’t know how long Russia could hold out.

    • RE: KJF strategy US

I look at a few different things before I commit to a KJF game as the US player.

First thing I need to see is if my allies are leaning that direction and how heavy.  It’s one thing to say it and it’s another to commit to it.

      1. I would like to see Russia do something besides consolidate forces close to Moscow and write off the Far East as a loss.  Maybe send 1-2 INF to Sinkiang and mass the Far East units in Yakut.  Granted that’s not much but it may be all Russia can do.

      2. I would like to see the UK player attempt to disrupt Japans flow of traffic.  I would like to see the Japanese transport in SZ 59 gone. (Limiting Japan to only sending two units to the mainland on the first turn.)  I also want to see where they send the Indian and Australian Navies.

If I don’t get a warm fuzzy from my allies the deal’s off and I’m heading to Berlin.

Next thing I look at is what Japan does.

      1. Japan should no matter what do the pearl attack and invade China.  I’m not saying they are limited to those moves but those are the basics.  If Japan doesn’t do that he/she isn’t an experienced player and now I stand a better chance in the Pacific.

      2. The China invasion is more important then some might think.  If Japan is moving heavy into Asia that means the US may have an opportunity (maybe just for a few rounds) to have an upper hand in the pacific.

      3. I would love to see Japan build an IC on their first turn.  Japan should always wait at a minimum for the second round (preferably the third or fourth) before making this purchase.  One reason is they may not have to buy one at all if they could take the UK’s in India.  Second they don’t know how the first round is going to play out yet. Watching the allies will help Japan decide to go on the offensive (and build one further away from home) of brace for impact (Build one closer to home if at all).

I think that the Axis always have the upper hand in the Pacific the same way the Allies have the upper hand in Europe.  It’s all based on you ability to get boots on the ground.  In Europe Russia and the UK are right there.  In the Pacific the allies have to import every thing until they can secure an area to build an IC.

Another point worth mentioning is that the US player is the most powerful in the game.  It doesn’t make sense to let the superpower turn into a mega-superpower with two crippled allies.  Case and point reference topics about what allied player should take Norway when playing a KGF game.

Here’s the nutshell version.  I never sit down to a game as the US player before Russia rolls his/her first dice and say to my self I’m going for Japan first.  Taking Japan first is very difficult since the US is basically on their own since it will take every thing the UK and Russia can muster to marginalize the losses to Germany until the US gets into theater.

Any player in the game needs to attack like water.  Take the path of least resistance.

    • RE: How could we use GC Battle box approach to play Pacific?

I could jump on board with the battle box but Adlertag is right about the intigrated movments.

The best thing I have seen happen to the battle box is using diffrent colored dice.  Maybe you could use the same number value just assign units colors.

That would give you the random hits you are looking for and streem line the dice rolling.

      @bb82:

I’m still just lost as to why you would sacrifice your air and navy.

All you have to do to block a German invasion on G2 is the following:

UK1 build should be something like an AC with 3 infantry and an armor. USA and UK should bring all units that can to UK. Best way to do this would be to combine UK fleet and USA fleet at sz8. Russian sub should block the med fleet and a Russian fighter should land in the UK.

      There thats it…

You saved UK (Germany only has about a 25% chance), you are now in a strong allied position, and you didn’t have to waste your UK air and navy to do it.

Well then riddle me this.  If the Allies are in SZ 8 why wouldn’t Germany (who is hell bent on a sea lion with 6 TRN) invade London from SZ 6, SZ 7, or in SZ 3?

If I were Germany I sealion from SZ 6 and stage Land troops and the Luft Waffe in W Europe.  This does five things for me:

      1. I block the allies from getting to SZ 5 taking my habor and being dangerously close to my capitol.
      2. I mass my assult forces in W Europe to shuttle into London.  This keeps my TRN’s from having to move and deturs Allies from taking W Europe and provides a defence for my Luft Waffe.
      3. If the allies decide to flank me by going to Norway my Navy is right there and able to shuttle troops from W Europe or shuck-shuck from Germany if in a pinch to Norway.  (If I want it that bad).
      4. If Russia puts the heat on E Europe or the Allies try to flank me by going to S Europe my W Europe troops are one space away and I can see the Allies coming and respond before they get there.
      5. Having the Luft Waffe in W Europe does several things for me.
            A) If Russia puts on the heat I can attack E Europe or the Balkans and still return to W Europe.
            B) My Luft Waffe can take pop shots at undefended Allied navy units in SZ’s 14, 13, 12, 8, 7, 6, 5 and 3 and still return to W Europe.
            C) They can assist on the Sealion Invasion and return to W Europe.

      Just my thoughts,

I had to go with witch doctor.  I read an article about a year ago discussing how pharmaceutical companies would prefer to go with roots and leaves from natural ingredients; however, what stops them is that they can’t put a patent on plants only manmade synthetic products that may mimic the same results.

I know this may be off topic but as an eagle scout (from Northern California) I found that wherever there is a plant that causes harm like poison oak for example there is another plant nearby that can counter act those effects.  In this case the little berries from a Manzanita bush.

The witch doctor being local would know things like this.  A good med student I would trust to assist a seasoned Basic EMT.

    • RE: Sidestepping history - hiding swastikas.

There was another topic in the 50th section where someone asked why Rommel was on the box and not Hitler.  This person pointed out that you saw faces like Churchill and Stalin (world leaders) not Montgomery or Eisenhower (country specific generals) for example.

The answer was that the game would not be legal to market in Germany with Hitler’s face.  I would imagine this would fall under the same school of thought.  Germany doesn’t deny that the war happened but they would like marginalize the bad PR that goes with it.

Hmmm…  With out looking at a map I was just thinking how I would have delt with Germany building 5 TRN’s on thier first turn.  I guess I assumed they would have thrown every thing that would reach into the UK as well.

So I guess my real question is if the Allies belly flop the sea lion assult how do you recover?  Can you recover?

The way I understood the swastika was it represented a political party.  So to use it in the game or to reference Germany by a swastika would be no diffrent then referencing the US by the Democratic symbol as both US presidents in the war were Democrats.

      Just my two cents,

    • Allies need help to combat a sea lion

      Hey all,

I have been hosting a series of A&A games at a local board game club.  I tought them how to conduct a sea lion attack.  None of these kids play a very agressive Russia.

      On G1 they have been:

      1. buying 5 transports
      2. moving all land units to Norway or Germany
      3. moving all air units to W Europe
      4. Sending the sub in SZ 8 to attack the UK transport in SZ 1.

UK 1 goes something like this:

      1. buy 5 INF and 3 ARM
      2. Leave all air units on London b/c they don’t stand much chance vs Germany’s instand navy.
      3. move the ARM from E Canada to London.
      4. Move the UK navy to what ever SZ that is that the US can reach on the SW side of England.

      JPN 1:

      1. Standard build 3 TRN

      US 1:

      1. move the 2 INF, 1 ART, 1ARM onto the 2 Transports send them to London with destroyer.
      2. move what ever US air units will reach to London.
      3. move units East to prepare for transportation to London.

      G2:
The battle for London can go either way.  Last Saturday we saw two German wins and one allied win with the three games that were played.  Germany may only have like 1 INF left and had to kill off air untis to take London.  The US is two rounds away from launching a serious counter attack.

      UK 2:

      1. Take pop shots at German navy if possible.
      2. move TRN with 2 INF from AUST and move toward W Africa.  Make a Alamo attempt in Egypt to stop rapid Axis expansion and stop traffic through the Suez canal.

      JPN 2:

      1. Mass ARM build

      US 2:

      1. If London is weak try to take it back.

      G3:

      1. buy 8 INF to place on London on G3 to keep the US from taking it back.

      UK 3:

      1. Keep with the plan from UK2.

      JPN 3:

      1. build an IC.
Overall plan from here in: Bust through India and steam roll Africa and grab poor Russian spaces and put pressure on Moscow.

You can see how the Allies crumble from here on out.  I’m sure this has been discussed time and time again I was just wondering what the general membership input is now that we have some new faces in the group.

    • RE: Airfield Locations

Despite any historical short coming this game may have the thing I like most about this version of A&A is that it feels the most “chess like.”

What I mean by that is both sides start fairly even so the issue of being ballanced has never come up.  (Well at least not in my social circles.)

Don’t get me wrong I like the idea classic and revised had presented with one side with more units and the other having a real estate advantage but I like to play the game without players bickering about who has what advantages.

      @Imperious:

A great number of people could argue that activly participating on a forum for a board game would be childish yet here we are.

Thats why i design them and not really play them, because i find it more interesting to help people who:

      1. cant make nifty maps and artwork but have a need for it
      2. help solve some of the problems of realism in these games and find new solutions
      3. Playing a game can be a mental struggle which does not ruin a good mind. Thats why i also play Chess and Poker… but i can never find anything with comics stimulating whatsoever.

I also saw this crappy movie and aside from alternating scenes of people getting their arms cut, face smashed in, the most vulgar violence and gratuitous sex at every 5 minutes period i rate the movie as the greatest artwork ever created in film and it will undoubtedly lead to the most positive cultural development in the last 100 years.

I think it will lead to world peas.

My point was that some may find diffrent aspects of diffrent hobbies interesting and they may mean nothing to others.
