    • RE: THe $12 you get to start with!!

the point is, expert players never get oil money, it’s a waste of resources and the benifits come to late. I am happy to trade the battleship destroyer and transport for 2 uk fighters (after it has killed a destroyer)
The german med fleet does much better in the atlantic harassing the allies.

no one ever attacks malta germany turn 1. The reason is simple. first of all, you will lose a man, but more importantly, you can’t use your battleship’s second hit against the destroyer. Instead you have to use subs or even air.

the only advantage men on malta may have is to be transported somewhere later on

    • RE: (US) hvy bomy/long range - worth the effort?

well i just tried the tek thing:

I agreed to give germany +2 men in eastern europe. Russia for some reason didn’t defend karelia very well, and it fell hard. Then germany lands it’s air in western europe, and uk get’s lucky and destroys all but 2 fighters. Then I roll 6 tek, get heavy bombers and super subs. So I kill the remaining fighters. Sadly russia wouln’t listen to me, and doesn’t defend russia, instead takes more territories from japan (giving money to germany) russia falls, and we surrender because the axis will easily get 84.

But if russia didn’t play so bad it would have worked…

I don’t get the point of putting men on malta. It is extremely rare that germany even attacks it, and if they do, it helps the allies

don’t worry about that, it can be done. If you want to play a test game at attis site with me, I guess I can, but it will be pretty slow for a while.

ok, what’s the point of saving usa turn one? The only reason to ever save money in this game is to leave your self open to different options, or to get a fleet in the water that wouln’t sink. Why not just all tek turn 1 with usa. If you get hb or it you win. But the others suck. I would recommend trying to keep the transport alive and send 2 men each turn into finland/karelia because it will give you fodder for your already decent airforce. Maybe you can trade some stuff for russia. I’ll try it an see how it works.

I mentioned that anything else is worthless, this wrong. There are potentially other placements that could be good, what I really meant to say is other placements people have mentioned are in my mind, worthless.

    • RE: THe $12 you get to start with!!

      in order effectiveness:

      4 inf hungary
      1 sub halifax 1 rtl hungary/poland
      1 fighter somewhere

anything else is worthless, or is just a variation of the above

artillary in finland is a waste as are units near egypt. Remember, the goal is to take moscow (or the uk.) Not to get a lot of money!!

    • RE: The veterans of A&A

I do not consider myself a veteran of this game. But it depends on what a veteran is. To me, a veteran is someone who has played for many years, and many games, it doesn’t really matter how good you are…

it’s better to hit ukraine turn one with russia because you can always kill the finland troops turn 2, they cant go anywhere.

    • RE: The TWISTED axis and allies!!!

someone tried to make a game with japan vs world
japan starts with japan and okinawa (production of 9)

all the countries start with no units, except japan get’s an unlimited ic. Japan starts with 300 ipcs to buy whatever. When the other countries buy an ic, it’s limited.

The problem is, japan can just build men and transports and take and hold western usa.

    • RE: AA movement.

hi, I looked at that sheet, where does it say you can move aa guns before combat?
      thanks.

i did find that if you fire a rocket, you can’t move the aa gun after that, and also:

A captured enemy territory with an industrial complexes will give you limited unit placement capacity on your next turn.
It will be equal to the territory’s IPC value. This rule apples even if the complex was an original one - that is, one the
      enemy started the game with.

    • RE: Aircraft

you could play with the optional rule that tanks can’t hit air (like subs can’t hit air)
that way you will unlikely leave a tank unguarded to those bombers!
It would also help balance the game, the usa can build bombers, and prevent armor only in eastern poland (sometimes I attack the german armor stack with air only anyway if I have a lot converted)

      hmm ok, so finland:
      3 inf 2 arm vs 3 inf 1 arm 1 ftr
      the odds look bad here

    • RE: Russian AA guns?

if you allow more than one aa gun in a region, then it works, otherwise, it’s not as good.

    • RE: This game is completely unbalanced!!!!

I always played that you can build even if there are enemy units in the seazone.
Also, you don’t have to garrison infantry in all those places to ignore the british med fleet. just put men in north italy and move them east through yugoslavia. If uk lands in greece or southern italy, just kill what they landed

one thing that is annoying you have to watch for is the uk taking sardinia or corsica. This let’s the usa bomb north italy from london on the same turn.

    • RE: France

maybe it would work if you played with rail movement (land units can ncm 2 spaces through territory held at the start of the turn)
or, to be realistic, have trucks. But in reality, the man focus of the war took place in russia
If you want to see a more complex game, check out advanced a&a europe, it has paris separate, as well as a lot of other things.
