RE: Next A&A Big Battle gameposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
And yah fog of war sounds awesome. idk how though.
the only way to do fog of war i think would to use task force markers on the board and you oppoinent would not see the ship grouping until it is spotted and identified, sort of like stratigo. that game was kind of fun before we all discovered AA. you would have to roll dice like ASW in AA to detect subs. this would have to be a 2 player game. again probably played out in an enjoyable 2 or 3 hrs. whatya think?

RE: Next A&A Big Battle gameposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
How would Germany win this game. Plus only 5 players could play no more or no less.
yeah, only about 4 or 5 players. Germany could win if the allies run out of steam before they get to Berlin, sort of like FORTERESS AMERICA. that game has America attacked from east, west, and south from 3 different players with limited reinforcements. if they dont crush mainland US forces by like the 5th or 6th round America can win by surviving. thats how Germany wins. the cool thing about the game is that it probably would be playable in 4 0r 5 hours. cool when you need an AA fix on Friday night and cant do a 5 am AA global game when you have to work Sat. morning.

RE: Next A&A Big Battle gameposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
i didnt not know that. how did we wind up with half of BERLIN anyway? still love the idea of taking bridges and towns under pressure. bridges speed your advance, towns allow you some sort of supplies. plus still have to keep supply lines open.
i would also love to see a MIDWAY game with tons of navy and aircraft. you would need to have some kind of “fog of war” mechinisim in the rules. ships and aircraft would have to constintly have to “locate” enemy ships and aircraft to engauge. -
RE: Next A&A Big Battle gameposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
i posted this somewhere else, but instead of battle of berlin, how about RACE TO BERLIN. the object of the game is for RUSSIAN, BRITISH, and US forces to be the first to take BERLIN. this could be cool becouse of the great rivailry between PATTON and MONTGOMERY. the allies would be forced to drive hard and fast before crucial bridges were blown up by GERMANY. at the same time the allies would have to keep ever growing supply lines open. GERMANY tries to slow them all down thru defence fortifications, sabotage, as i said, bridge demolition, and maybe even a one time “battle of the buldge” type of event done at GERMANYS choosing.
what does anyone think? -
RE: Midway - Useless?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
last few times i have played JAPAN i have not tried to take HAWAII or MIDWAY. think of how many ipcs it will cost you to take it, and hold it. its too far from JAPAN to be able to quickly reinforce it. its barely worth any ipcs and US an hit it with bombers from mainland. instead i have been using the equal amount of ipcs to keep the US fleet at bay. if you can slow them down and keep sinking alot of their ships, especially transports, you can build JAPAN into a ipc monster and then tangle head on with the US fleet.

RE: In your opinion, what is strategically your favorite army to play and why?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
the axis is such a thrill at the beggining of a AA game becouse they are pumped up with forces and ipc funds. you have to play these countries very aggressively from the starting gate. you just kick ass. as the allies, you have to take a beating for a couple of rounds until you get orgainized and till the U.S. gets fully involved. i find the BRITS to be the most difficult to play. they start out with alot of ipcs but they are so spread out across the board its sometimes difficult where to alocate troops and ipcs.BRITAIN,INDIA,AFRICA,EAST INDIES,AUSTRAILIA,NORTH ATLANTIC,MEADITERAINIAN SEA.

RE: DIY tuck box insertsposted in Customizations
i found the best thing to use is fishing tackle boxes. they are made by a company called plano. you can easily find them at wallmart and they are pretty cheap to buy. the large version has 17 small compartments, 4 medium compartments and 1 large compartment. it comes with dividers so you can configure the compartments to suit your needs.its also great becouse if the box is dropped when its closed not only do your pieces not fall all over the place but the pieces stay in their compartments and wont get all mixed up.
i hate when that happens! -

unfortunately, i believe by 2030 we probably will have the blueprint for that game. A+A WW3. if we live thru it to be able to play it. sad but true.

RE: IL's final 1939 mapposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
IL said the best way to do it is to take the file on disc to a professional printing service(KINKOS or STAPLES) and have them print it out on 1 sheet of vynil. it should cost about $140.00 to do.

RE: Artillery become strongerposted in House Rules
on the scale this game is played, the artillery differences between each nation are small as compared to the units you have to choose from. If you give germany a slightly different unit for there artillery then what about the US p51 mustangs, which were better aircraft than the Zero, or the superfortresses….why should germany only get a special unit? you can make the argument that every nation had varying differences in comparable units. If you start incorporating those unit differences then the game becomes immensely more complex for a 6 sided di game.
dont get me wrong… i think adding slightly different unit could be cool, but balance should be maintained.
as it is now the spring 1942 version is very balanced, If you tip the scale in favor of germany then your just giving them a better chance of winning.i just like the idea of an anti-tank gun used just like a anti-aircraft gun, except used on tanks. this would mainly effect the GERMAN/RUSSIAN conflict

RE: Artillery become strongerposted in House Rules
the 88 cannon sounds more like an anti-tank gun if used this way
Yes but uin fact, 88 canon is versatil.
Germany used as AA gun, Anti gun and artillery as well in the same battle.if thats the case,GERMANY should have special pieces to represent 88s and they should be able to use them in all 3 ways. ouch!

RE: Artillery become strongerposted in House Rules
i have been using for a while now, arrtillery fires first, casulties removed before return fire, every round of combat. sounds harsh but try it.

@Dylan:
how about RACE TO BERLIN where a U.S. player and a RUSSIAN player attack GERMAN from both sides and winner is the first country to occupy BERLIN. You could even include BRITIAN and have a PATTON/MONTGOMERY rivialy where there is a 3 way race. GERMANY would have fixed troop formations and defences. at that point GERMAN wasnt on the offence except for battle of the buldge. this game maybe be played in 2 hrs.
That’s a good idea, but there should be British soldiers.
there would be BRITISH soldiers under MONTGOMEY. the PATTON/ MONTGOMERY rivialry could be duplicated. they were oviously at war with each other, but they was one general trying to out proform the other. they could cut each other off, blitz, position for optimum supplies, and drive hard and fast thru GERMAN counter attacks while having to keep your supply lines open all the way back to NORMANDY or MOSCOW, if your RUSSIA. This would also give the GERMANS the opportunity to cut supply lines.
