exellent! i really like your concept of different movement values for combat and non combat movment. its so much more realistic and makes good sense. i guess infantry is out on this one. tried to apply it and couldnt make it make sense.

if their is no radar, fighters should be able to suprize attack air bases and naval bases like in pearl harbor. roll dice: 4-6 defending fighters go up. roll 1-3 SUPRIZE ATTACK defending fighters are caught on ground cannot return fire for 1st round combat. if you have radar tech, no suprize attack option. whaddya think? :?

RE: Fortress Maltaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
From my experience playing Britian in past games Malta was very important in securing N Africa. any time i built an IC on Egypt B1, it was lost to Germany. I would build in S Africa. This game starts out with minor IC S Africa, Great!. The only reason you need Malta fortified is to protect aircraft and make Italy think twice about doing it. if they do, you just distracted them from N Africa for 1 turn, Great!
I eventually took bombers that were sitting in England doing nothing becouse Germany had too many fighters as interceptors to make SBRs work, i sent them down to malta via Gibralter. now, with the 2 fighters i already had on Malta previously, and now 2 bombers, i was able to significantly disrupt the flow on Italian transports in the MED, ultimately easing the pressure on Brit troops in N Africa and allowing time to shuffle up reinforcments from S Africa. Not only that when my bombers werent sinking transports, i was bouncing the bombers down into N Africa to add punch to Brit attacks. Does anyone agree with this, IT WORKS. AND YES MALTA IS VITAL@! -

i agree about the air combat movment rule. more realistic. good call IL :-)

Based on what we’ve heard from Djenson, it sounds like Italy could be a real contender in this game, so I think it might be necessary for the UK to devote some resources to beef up Malta. I could see Baron’s idea working pretty well to slow down the Italians from reinforcing North Africa. If Britain can gain control of the Med before Italy becomes too powerful in Africa, there’s no way Italy will be able to put up a fight later on (with only 10 IPCs a turn…) I’m not sure yet as I have not played the game, but I think that reinforcing Malta might be a worthwile endeavor.
HELLO,
LNMAJOR, been talking about this since pics posted SAT. nite by DJENSEN.and yes you are right on target.MALTA is important. -
RE: Fortress Maltaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
ive played games where i was hold Malta with inf. and ftrs. eventually i got 2 bombers on Malta and it really helped slow down the German influx of hardware into N. Africa. sank alot of transports to the point the Axis had to deal with it. at that point it distracted them from N africa and gave the Brits a chance to regroup.

RE: Fortress Maltaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
miami beach, you got it! 1 inf., 1 ftr and sub on Malta to start. if Brits have to go and get it, its too much of an effort. the way i see it thou, if Brits start with something on it,they can really exploit it. it is an unsinkable aircraft carrier right in the middle of MED.

IL, can you clarify exactly what you mean by 2 sz rule for land based fighters. do you mean 2 SZ for combat and non-combat moves combined?

RE: Fortress Maltaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Very well thoughtout, i might be jumping the gun by expressing my dissappiontment with the initial Malta setup. if Brits start moving fighters from England and off the carrier, is it taking too much need muscle to soon from these other areas? i am gonna have to wait to actually play a few games to see how this plays out. but thanks for some great analyisis on how this might play out

RE: Italy's first move…posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I suppose, but those 5 extra ipcs are gunna be needed, espically if you want to put that factory in Egypt. I think Italy can do both, advance on the Balkan front, AND, hit Alexandria, which would destroy the main body of British forces in the area. What would Egypt have if Alexandrias troops were destroyed? 2 infantry, maybe 3? I dont think 3infantry will stand much chance aginst Italian forces in the area, espically if their supported by the Italian fleet.
Looks to me Italy will be signifigant player in this game

they design it that way cause how much action is in central Africa anyway? its still represented it just looks like your on drugs. :-D

RE: Midway - Useless?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
the problem is how much is it costing Japan to conquer and hold hawaii compared to how much SBR damage it can do to US economy? also include cost of lost Jap bombers in SBRs. and if you dont at the same time keep US transports out of the water, at 2 SZ from US mainland your looking at a massive expendature of IPCs. if you can deny US of all IPC income from Jap SBRs, then it can work, but much easily said than done.

RE: SBR on air bases / naval basesposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
if you can stop enemy bombers from taking off from a stategic air base, it might buy you some time to rebuild air defense(fighters) to deter SBRs

RE: Fav a/a gameposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Combined forces are best and you should never attack without them, but for a single unit , the BOMBER is my weapon of choice. Can strike deep into enemy territory, hit ratio is 2 out of 3, is only slightly more expensive than a fighter. BOMBER with heavy bomber tech and long range aircraft tech can strike Capitals way behind enemy lines and bring opponent to their knees. Only negitive, has no defensive value. Pure offensive weapon. These aircraft won the war in both theaters hands down. if you see your opponent starting to buy lots of bombers, your days might be numbered.

RE: AAE40 setup ( now verified)posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
maybe they think the minor IC in South Africa counters the lack of Brit troops in N Africa? still doesnt sound right to me. especially with NOTHING IN MALTA!

RE: Afrika look.posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
@Panz3r:
At the first look it seems afrika it’s not geographically correct!!
don’t you think?bye :)
impossible to portray Africa correctly in proportion to Europe. the board would have to be like 5 or 6 ft north to south

RE: Italy's first move…posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Italy can run wild in the MED. might as well, no fighters in Malta or Gibralter to stop them.
