Quick and easy solution to tac bombersposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Got my game last night and unpacked it. Like everyone, I’m annoyed that Japan only has 6 Tac Bombers when they need 10+. So after sitting and thinking a minute, I dug out my old copies of AARevised and even Guadalcanal. The Tac Bomber is almost the same size as the regular bomber (wingspan and lengthwise). Sooo…. if you cut the engines off of the old bomber models (and maybe trim the wings just a bit, then round them off)- Instant Tac Bombers!
Also- you can snag AARevised or Guadalcanal fairly cheap off ebay- the average I saw was around $20. This would seem a FAR better option then buying 2 games (sorry, but $20 is much easier than plunking down another $65-90 JUST for extra peices).
I’m also thinking about taking the old ICs and using them as well… Say cut off 1 smokestack to equal a Minor IC and use the straight model for the Major

RE: Question about Political Situationposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
The more I think about it and look at the board, the more I am convinced it’s to Japan’s benefit to hold off drawing in the USA till they come in on turn 4. Otherwise they won’t quite be ready… as formidable as the Imperial Navy is it can’t handle attacking the US west coast, which would be where any sensible US player should keep her fleet till war is on. This way… Japan can direct its formidable air power and what land troops against China through turns 1-3 while building more destroyers and cruisers in anticipation to a mid-pacific showdown with the US Fleet.
(the strategy still holds good if USA declares early… it will take a bit to cross the lake…)

RE: Axis need more help?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
France MAY be more then a free boost to Germany. We won’t know till we see more of AAE40’s setup and layout. The biggest… “unreality” factor in all these games is the difference in quality between armies is null and void. We all know the French were a joke historically, but what happens if you get some BAD dice rolls on Germany’s attack? The Frenchies may be able to hang on till UK rushes whatever they have to booster them (assuming the trannies can run the gauntlet of U-boats I fully expect to see in the English Channel). We’ve all seen game reports from AAP40 that China can be a MAJOR thorn in Japan’s side- I see France becoming Germany’s, at least in the early game.
Then we come to Italy. Now I don’t have AA50 but it would seem to me that having an independent attack force south of Germany needs to change the Allied players’ gameplans, even Vets of the game. North Africa is no longer bleeding resources from Germany, and as long as Italy doesn’t over-extend her reach, She should be able to keep the British (and US) engaged in North Africa for a long time. I’m more curious about other areas in Europe '40, like Spain- how will they be represented? I think it would be great to see some Forces there, and what would have occured if Franco had fully entered as a 4th Axis? OK, the game may only have them as a few infantry, but I’d love to see that and a small airforce. Imagine the boost Italy would get if the Axis player is able to keep the Med sealed?
