RE: The National Hockey League … how much do you care?posted in General Discussion
I really enjoy hockey. I wish we had an NHL team. We have that semi Pro league and I have caught afew games. I watch it when I see it. I don’t know that I hate the NHL. I am too busy being made at MLB for ruining the game I grew up loving. Oh well. Money can kill anything if you pile enough on it. There’s the leason. I voted indifferent because we don’t have a team to miss, but it’s a great sport.

When I am on vacation I spend most my time with the kids. I give each one a day alone doing whatever they think is fun. So 3 days down there. :) I did go see Alien vrs Predator tonight then played a game of Modern Art after the movie. Pretty decent card game.

RE: Will the situation in Iraq improve in November?posted in General Discussion
There will be many more, but it’s really a good thing. We have been putting off going after Faluga (sp?) and the other cities held by insurgents IMO to keep casualties lite pending the election. Now that the politics will be over we can go after them. That will mean more casualties all around but since we are fighting a war there, that is to be expected. We must secure Iraq if we want to hold anything like a real election. I think think the election is coming out of turn but that’s life. We must play the hand we have been delt.

It took me about 30 minutes to vote. I went at an odd time to avoid the rush. Nice being on vacation.

“why are none of us at work right now?”
I am. Just being lazy while I wait for some figures to put in a fund request. I go on vacation next week and am short timing.“regardless, i find it hard to believe an educated populace would all of the sudden become opium addicts.”
I don’t say they will. They did not then really. The byproducts of drug use bug me the most. Once addicted people will do anything to get more. That means crime. People that become addicts loose mental capacity, so even if cured they become less valuable to society. Maybe even a strain on our healthcare system. Oh well. None of it is good. Not to mention drugs already affect those with the least ability to make good choices about their use. Kids. Legalizing them will just make it easier to get them in kids hands. Never in favor of something that can ruin a life as it’s just starting.

Look at China in it’s Opium war days. Not a pretty site. I would not want to enable that here. BTW, the Brits had their less than great moments Eh?

Agent,
I value knowledge and the pursuit of truth above all else. I don’t know if that qualifies me as enlightened or not in your view, but I am comfortable with who and what I am.
The way you are conducting your current war will not result in a victory worth winning. Even if you crush your opponent that will have no value. You will have won nothing. Certainly not the victory a truely enlightened man would seek. Part of enlightenment is the desire to spread knowledge. Are you spreading knowledge? By offending you opponet you close him to the ideas you are a proponet of. That’s a loss Brother. Unless you just wanna show off. That’s cool too, but quit using words like enlightenment then. A truely enlightened man would be trying to get your opponet to read Thoreau, not use his writings as a hammer to beat his opponets with. Now I am gonna get another drink cause this arguement has killed my buzz.

I dunno. I voted yes, but I was thinking medical marajuna. Legal maryJ would probablly not hurt anything directly. Muddying the water would though. Hard drugs are never good. Worth noting that I am half drunk atm though, so what the heck do I know. :) For the record I RARELY drink. Just the mood I was in tonight.

RE: The Final Pollposted in General Discussion
Jennifer,
Well I agree. Not willing this time. Too much dangerous stuff going on to make my vote a statement for a 3rd party. The 2 party system has caused us no end of trouble. Why we would get to the place we where in four years ago where neither candidate was good. Ugh. America is huge. I find it hard to believe that Gore and W represent the best we had to offer. Kerry? He seems compotent. Great? Not yet. We can hope. -

“Personnaly, i cant think of any greater honor than dying for my country.”
See I agree with Patton.
“No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country.
He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.”In seriousness, dying is best left to the experts. Very old men and women.

Janus,
I did not pick the comparison, I just pointed out why it was inacurate.Jennifer,
People still die in accidents. I would guess more not less, since war zones are harder to opperate in than free zones. Regardless, it’s ADDITIONAL casualties. Some people think having Americans die there could have (should have) been avoided. For them every American death in Iraq is a tradgedy. We are there now. What I hope Kerry does is rally people around the outcome. Rehashing the cause will get us nowhere. If Bush would have admitted the truth, like Tony Blair did maybe we would already be moving that direction. -
RE: The Final Pollposted in General Discussion
 One would have thought things would be better this time. Nope. Florida had voting booths break down and the debates are gonna start again. Gees. It’s not even the regular election and they can’t handle it?!
Is anyone cheating? Probablly. What I find the most troubling is the people that threw out voter registrations for people that where not gonna vote for their candidate. I don’t care what side people like that are on. They are scum. -
RE: The Final Pollposted in General Discussion
I am not a Democrat but I do hate Bush. All the same, I am pro ellectoral college either way.

Numbers. How many Americans are in Iraq? How many are in New York? Talk apples to apples numbers. Base it on percentages. Ugh. -
RE: The Final Pollposted in General Discussion
I believe Kerry will win. Undecideds break for the challenger when there is unrest/ dissatisfaction in the country.
Hilary will probablly run for VP. I don’t think the rednecks are ready to actually vote for a woman.
As far as women being able to lead, several countries have been run by very capable women. England and India just to name a couple. Women are perfectly capable of leading well. In some instances better. For instance, a woman is not considered weak just for changing her mind. ;) -
RE: My annoying lunchposted in General Discussion
Janus was correct. Oh well.
Marine,
We protect Kerry as if he might become President. If it was Bushy running around trying to become President would you want him driving himself without any protection? Remember the terrorists we are suppose to be afraid of. One of them could determine the outcome of our next election if we did not protect them. Not to mention we have our very own home grown nut jobs that would take a shot given half a chance. Pop quiz: How many US Presidents have been shot? How many of those where shot by US citizens? Take your time… :) Poli Sci 101 is now out for the day. -
RE: Iraq Casualtiesposted in General Discussion
Except… we would not be loosing the soldiers if not for the war. We still have acciedents etc. These are additional losses. I would expect the men themselves and the families of those lost feel pretty strongly about the numbers.
As wars go it’s light. Since the war has been over for months now the question is more, how are the losses compared to other police actions. Much less than Vietnam I guess. Then again we are not out yet and we won’t be for years. -
RE: Debate #3posted in General Discussion
Bush still blinks way to much. I figure its like a subliminal message in morse code or something.
