If you qualify for financial aid, the expensive private colleges may actually be quite cheap. For example, I’m paying 36 per year, but my girlfriend is paying like 6, 10 in Student loans, and the rest is paid by the school.

It was actually cheaper to go to PC than URI for her.

      ?

Hhhmmm, it sounds more like an American Congressman who wants to ban death in order to keep their district from being re-districted out of existence with the next census :-)

Of course, the US tried a variant of this about 40 years ago.  While we did not ban death, we determined that death was no hindrnace to voting… at least in Metropolitan Chicago!  LOL

Don’ t have the time for that … can you give me a link or mail me a pdf ? … i will look up the problems and material i have here … but not tonight.

I can assure you, i was not wrong two years ago. And the studies that were out there at that time “proving” how helpful the medication was were “questionable”.

Up there, all alone, on the front porch to the final frontier…
They are up there advancing the cause of humankind.
I just checked out the IMAX DVD.  Comments by astronaut and cosmonaut alike both speak of seeing the earth below without any borders.  One even said that we will not set up permanant residence on the moon as individual countries, but as allies representing all mankind.

The Imax special features pointed out a how a shot from the porthole on the Soyuz was not directly available due to the bulkiness of the camera.  The quick problem solving ideal of one cosmonaut and the skills applied by rest of the crew, they set up mirror reflective shots that were angled just right.  You would not know it was reflected if they didn’t tell you.

These people live, eat, work, sing, and make movies together up there.  Sharing for them is essential to surviving.  The main crew is 3, which will go up for a while as Soyuz and Shuttles dock to trade out crews.

All of the space agency crews are highly educated and heavily trained.  Touring guests are also well trained.  The guests so far have been highly successful technology entrepreneurs, so they also understand the discipline needed for successful trips up there.  The tourism bill at ~ $20 mil cash is high enough to prevent a fraudster from getting on board.

The contrast  to the UN is dramatic.
Maybe its because its mostly enlightened nations that are making the effort, so the petty dictators don’t have a say.  The Russian and US space agencies show a very unified front to all the other participants, so unity of purpose for any new objective is quickly achieved.  They also have the strongest communications links for station ops.

Being from the A&M area, but still a Texan, I had a little heart in the game for the Longhorns.  It’s been a while since I’ve watched any sports, but the bowl games this weekend were exciting.  Now, if only the “Professional” athletes would play like the college guys, then maybe they’d be worth a fraction of what they really get paid.

However, that game could have gone either way.  They are both great teams.  There never is a number 1.  It was an awesome game, and I’m glad it was so close.

forget about stacking limitations… think manpower limitations… but balance both axis and allies equal, while adjusting for historical differences Soviet and German army large… UK army small etc…also allow either side to retreat.

Pac Gas Light, and a home developer based in LA want to build 2450 new solar homes that will feature top line energy efficiency technologies built into each.

The reason it is up for vote is that the only land they found for this project was set aside as open space.  Environmental groups want to preserve that space and the endangered species living there.  Other suburban planners are concerned that urban sprawl and traffic jams will result.

Forbes magazine has an article about the dangers of doing business in China.

This guy, David Ji seemed to be a pro.  He built a $ billion +  DVD importing business.

He went back there to sort out a billing dispute last year.
A major supplier who he had a deal with ousted their CEO and replaced him with a party crony.
Ji was siezed by police in his hotel.
They have not let him come back.

      http://www.israelinsider.com/general/frames.htm?israelinsider&http://www.jonathanpollard.org/2001/022301c.htm

In the final analysis, I find the pardon of Marc Rich to be a highly monetized assault on American values. Seems like much of the over $100 million he evaded in taxes and fines were paid back in charity and bribes to Israel, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, and even the US (Clinton Library). Petty change for a billionare.

Oh yeah, he also got wealthy defying our trade embargo against Iran during and after the hostage crisis in 1979.

Rich’s agents made concerted efforts to gain that pardon, and if Clinton did not get it, they would have to wait for the next president and try again after 7-8 years, or 4 if the incumbent could not win reelection. Clinton always had a good eye for channeling advantageous donations. The Wikipedia link said that Al Gore tried to arrest Rich in the past, so no funding from the Rich organization if Gore won. In fact, it would have been risking millions in funding to the Republicans to unseat Gore if he won. GW might be offered bribes if Rich still needed a pardon and that amount of money was to much to give away to the Republicans. I think Clinton feared that amount of money would win even more Republican seats in Congress.

221b - AFAIK partial-birth abortions are permitted in the US - at least within certain realms (not in Canada yet - even Mortgentaler - the king of the pro-choice movement - believes that abortion after 18-odd weeks is murder).

w.r.t. the articles you posted - its hard to figure out what exactly they are talking about.
We have had newbirths on the unit that were taken off of life-support a few times. It is a sad process, but it really only happens when it is understood that the child has already died. At the same time, we never actually “killed” any of these children.

Finally - w.r.t. euthanasia - this should be debated in a separate topic. I have a problem with “pain” being a reason to kill people. IMO we need to work on our palliative care methods. I wonder if the Dutch are just behind the 8-ball on this one . . . .

I get mixed answers when I ask that question, most to the left will concede that a man should have that choice. But there are some that are fanatical that think that it is all the womans say (I DESPISE when someone says “when a man can get preg. than he can have a say”). Somehow a man not wanting to become a parent is not relavent. Most to the right think a man should have a say, (even if they are pro life, they would like to have some say… even if they will never use it). But there are those who think that this (and it probably would) lead to more abortions. Also consider that if this was made law, the scenerio of a woman getting preg to try to hold onto a man in a relationship that is dead would not happen nearly as much. Just about all “relationships” that come about because of pressure of an unwanted baby end very badly.

I believe that abortion in the first month is ok. That is before the child has brain waves. That is when I think it is human (yes, all animals have brain waves and are not human, but using that standard than you could “abort” after the baby is born because it is no more inteligent than a chimp). If a woman wants one than I don’t think anyone has the right to stop her.

You may think a month is not enough time to decide to have one, or even to know if you are preg. To that I say first… tough, you need to make a decision quickly - a human life is at stake. And about not knowing, if you are gonig to take on the resp. to have sex than you should you should have to take on the resp of knowing if you are preg. You miss a period, test yourself and decide.

I am pro life, but I am not insane with it. My sister died because she gave birth. She didn’t know it would kill her. And I fully support a woman who wants to abort if her life/health is at stake no matter how far along the preg. is.

If the morning after pill works, and is SAFE… it should be made legal IMO. I think that pill would solve a lot of the problems.

Dude - this guy has the worst, most boring quotes ever. He is an apostrophe short of a cliche nearly every time. I actually got bored about 1/4 through. I really tried to look for an interesting/relevant/insightful quote, and nothing. Even the one you posted - it does nothing for me, and it’s not even a very appropriate simile given that it’s not very accurate.

Now Yogi Bera was someone who’s quotes i could get behind!

Most don’t like her. Many do not want her to tour Colorado. They view her campaign as an insult to the lives given by their child to the armed services for the USA.

Don’t know enough about the case to make any decision. The mere accusal of assault, unless there’s actual evidence to back it up, is not enough in my mind to convict the fellow. And on top of that, nine-million dollars is a Hell of a lot of money, and there’s no way, even if he did assault her, that she needs that much money to “compensate.”
