    • RE: Fortress America Question

I recall a long ago game of FA…

We as invaders used single units to take certain cities, that set up easy counter attacks, which gave then US player more partisan cards.

The martial law part of the game where you have to keep forces in each captured city was also a major burn on us since our offensives would usually wear off as we reached the interior to get the laser towers.  single units in the back cities would get picked off by a laser, which starts an automatic uprising and partisan card reinforcements.

Invader losses permanent, while the US player recycles losses from the box via the partisan cards.
Invaders usu face rising tide of USA forces by turn 7 or 8 as their forces are exhausted.

Maybe we read the rules wrong back then , but my group gave up after 3 games of FA and decided AA was not so tilted.

    • RE: Is it "plausible" the rebels secretly gassed their own in Syria?

Anyone remember how Bush’s dad wanted to go back to Iraq after the Kurd’s got gassed?

I think he really wanted to get in there to fully remove Saddam Hussain from power, but congress then did not really want another war for oil.

He settled for that “no-fly zone”.

Comparing Iraq in the '90’s to Syria today.  Saddam’s media was projecting war propaganda against us and Israel then.

Syria is not such an immediate threat.
And, like Bosnia, they have no oil or key US material interest.

While we have been steered into wars by some clever past presidents such as Polk or Roosevelt,
our constitution is designed to have congress vote on declarations of War.

Sadly , nobody in DC is asking if this is an engagement that George Washington would lead us into.

The Beast out of the Sea -

" The dragon[a] stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. 2 The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast. 4 People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?” "

Expecting Meade’s infantry to detrench and rapidly pursue would have been disasterous.

      15-20k more cavalry
      5k marines and
a big navy would have enabled such a victory.

The bulk of this non existent cavalry could have raced parallel to Lee’s army to the Potomac as a blocking pincer by Hagerstown.
The Union navy could then rush mortar boats, fresh marines, and other gun boats into support range.
That would buy enough time for the rest of the Union Army + reinforcements to roll in under an aggressive group of generals.

“Prince Harry visits Arlington National Cemetery”

Apparently, the young dude is a better friend to us than Putin.
He is also demonstrating servanthood to his own nation better than many who are positionally leading ours.

I recall his uncle was a chopper pilot in the Falklands war.  Y’know, the one that the folks understand is actually more capable than the bigger paycheck guy who will be writing out the orders.

      Cmdr ,

Sad to see you leaving the Land on Lincoln ,

He set many slaves free, yet the current leadership forgot that good deed.  They now seem bent on enslaving anybody halfway productive here with higher taxes and regulations.

My wife and I are also praying and seeking for a quiet exit anywhere better.
She favors CA (not me) and FL, but I prefer TX.

My mom lives in TN, but they do charge an non Wage state Income tax there.

Where ever you move  , keep in mind that any governor and with a state revenue surplus, will soon draw in productive new residents from all over.

    • RE: The enemy of my enemy Was my friend Back Then

After the Boston Marathon bombing, when word spread that the Russians notified our intelligence agencies, I was thinking :
      "Yeah , right, sure, whatever… "

I had held paradigm that the Russian government wanted the USA to fall to communism.

Russian support of our recent Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia expeditions have been tepid and secondary at best.

They may share a commonality that Islamic militants are causing problems in their towns
as they have done and attempted over here.

Not sure if our intelligence staffers were also in the same old Cold war paradigm of general distrust towards the Russian agents.

I mean , they did interview the older brother after some tips.

And I assume the US State department would have raised a big international case on the Russians if they detained the older brother when he visited.

The situation for our authorities is almost like Vietnam before our troops pulled out.

There not much of a human way to tell who (Russians, Cypriots, Germans, French, Chinese, Mexicans, Canadians, Chicagoans, or Islamics) is just pretending to be your friend

Last I checked , the Russians were moving towards totalitarianist Communism again w Putin.

But then again , the Russians see an enemy in militant islamics, who hate the USA as the little satan, therefore, we are their friends again.

I recall how Enya’s “only Time” became a NY anthem after 9-11.

This tune comes close after this weeks fertilizer plant explosion.

Neither that event , nor the recent drought or fires have deterred me from wanting to go back.
