      Don’t know if any of you people here watch these, but this is the best one I have seen yet. Even got FLIR video of the Su-22 shoot down.

      http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/14519/vfa-31-releases-footage-of-the-syrian-su-22-being-shot-down-in-awesome-cruise-video

      Since the video was removed from YouTube, someone found it here on a Russian equivalent. Awesome stuff.

      @P@nther:

      Guys, you have been misleaded … the OP thought it was a good idea to post his Anniversary-related question here in the Global forum.

      @LHoffman:

      Yes, I only posted it here because rules are similar and this board gets far more traffic than the Anniversary board.

      It was fully disclosed as such when I posed it. If people read it before thinking they knew the answer, that would help.

      @P@nther:

      @taamvan:

      You have 4 choices with every ship separately and independently …

      This part is correct for every WWII edition at least back to and including Anniversary Edition.

      Thank you. That is all I was asking.

      The rules do not state this explicitly. Considering the naval retreat rule in which the attacker retreats with naval units and they all must go back to a single sea zone from which at least one ship came… I thought it plausible that a similar ‘all or nothing’ rule may apply here.

      Not sure how many of you guys are interested in or aware of this, but I posted a while back about a Jalopnik website called Foxtrot Alpha. It was the best website I had ever come across in terms of current defense reporting, intelligent military/policy commentary, military journalism with connections and simply very fun, interesting and meaningful content. That was entirely due to the blog’s principal author Tyler Rogoway.

      Probably in light of a bit of Gawker Media cost-cutting, Rogoway departed for the Time website The Drive, where his content should have a similarly uncharacteristic, but successful fit with a predominantly automotive parent site.

      I cannot emphasize enough how abnormally great Tyler’s writing, insight and depth of content is for a non-subscription journal website. His writing is fresh, pertinent, entertaining and thoughtful. If the only place you get your defense news is Fox or MSNBC, you are living in the dark ages. You really ought to try out Tyler’s new blog (and even look up some of the still amazing content leftover on Foxtrot Alpha).

      Foxtrot Alpha:  http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/

      The War Zone (new home):  http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone

      Tyler’s focus is predominantly aviation, but he has done excellent articles, features and small pieces on every other imaginable military element from ships, subs, tanks, defense spending and policy, special ops warfare, drones, etc… Some of his best articles are those written by ex-military members detailing their stories from time in service. Extremely fascinating. Here are just a couple must reads from back on FA:

      Just now joining the conversation. Star Trek Discovery is in my top two favorite Star Trek series.

      It has:

      High production value Deep ties to the original Better action Humanity, feeling, morality problems It’s not boring

      I’ll go out on a limb here an say most of TNG was just plain boring. There were a few interesting episodes but for the most part, boring. Every series after that followed suit until Discovery.

      To me, it feels like Battlestar Galactica, The Expanse, Star Trek Original Series, and some of the Star Trek movies (new and old), and the result is great. The tie-in to the pilot was genius and basically solidified my opinion of the show.

      Though, it must be blindingly bright everywhere on the ship with all of those lens flares. Even J.J. Abrams admited he over used it; why is this series doing the same? “Captain, getting those readings for … arrrgggh, the console is as bright as the sun!”

      @wittmann:

      Sounds great. Thanks for the write up. I am sorry you did not get to see Shiloh, but understand you had little time.

      Yes, I was thinking about it as we were in the area, but we weren’t really prepared for a longer excursion otherwise I certainly would have taken us there.

      I could write a bit more in depth, but I don’t think it would be very interesting to others. I would definitely recommend stopping in either place (Nashville or Memphis), especially for people from other countries. Country music, southern food and Elvis Presley are some of the most recognizably American things out there and I am sure foreigners would enjoy it. In fact, we saw a couple from Australia in Nashville and at Graceland there were people from all over the world. It was pretty cool.

      Did you travel forward in time from 1992? But your point stands since it’s silly to have both the NBA and NHL operate with such long seasons but still allow over half the teams into their postseasons.

      You should root for the new Vegas team, whether it’s an expansion team or the next destination for the vagabond Coyotes.

      @alexgreat:

      Horta, Tholians, Sheliak, Species 8472, Calamarain, Tribbles, to name a few on the top of my head. And then there are aliens like Gorn, which I guess could pass as humanoids in a way.

      Just because those pretty dancers have lekku doesnt mean they are non-humanoid, and the same goes for wings of Geonosians.

      Comparing not only screened aliens (would be unfair I guess) but all things in the books as well, I dont think that Star Wars has more biodiversity. And in any case humanoids cannot come cooler than Romulans :)

      And as Wheat said, Star Trek explained why there are so many humanoids, in I guess another attempt to picture our similarities, not our differences.

      So having said all that, both franchises are great if you include the books, but Star Trek is maybe richer overall, with more time devoted to more cultures.

      Agree with Wheat, SciFi cannot come better than as DS9.

      @wheatbeer:

      @amanntai:

      I just find the aliens in Star Trek boring. They all look like humans. Vulcans are humans with pointy ears. Klingons are humans with weird foreheads.
      Star Wars has more biodiversity in my opinion.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation)

      This episode sort of explained away the similarities but saying that life was seeded by some earlier species.

      Most Star Wars aliens are still bipedal, with heads featuring eyes/nose/mouth/ears, who communicate with vocalizations. A truly alien creature wouldn’t be able to emote for a human audience.

      (and just in case, I didn’t geek out enough already, Star Trek aliens have more deeply developed cultures than Star Wars aliens)

      I wasn’t thinking of Twi’leks. I was thinking of Hutts, Ortolans, Wampas, or the Sarlacc (which is indeed a sapient creature in the Star Wars universe).

      I also believe the humanoid species in Star Wars are considerably less human than the humanoids in Star Trek. Dugs are technically humanoid, but don’t really look like humans.

      Also, Geonosians aren’t really humanoid. Just take a look at the Geonosian Queen, she doesn’t resemble humans at all.

      Since the forums have been basically dead for the past month, I will post about something I have been researching a bit.

      So… anybody hear into Mobile Suit GUNDAM?  If so, any advice you want to share with a person just venturing into the franchise.

      I should qualify that slightly by saying that I have done a pretty significant amount of research about the different series already and am somewhat familiar. Secondly, as with most Americans I was first introduced to Gundam Wing back in the days it came on Cartoon Network. I was about 10 years old at the time and could only watch at my grandparent’s house, so I watched infrequently and understood little besides giant mech suits with pilots and big guns. I am encouraged to know that Gundam in general is rarely so simple and that it offers both entertainment and thoughtful writing… (generally).

      I am most inclined to get back into Gundam Wing as a starting point and branch out from there. I was excited to find this in my searches (http://www.rightstuf.com/site/main/news/individual/FT0000007457.html). Supposedly, this means a releasing of much, if not all, the Gundam animated material over time. I sincerely hope this means remastering, dubbing and repackaging as I have gathered that the American audience in particular has been repeatedly screwed over or shut out by Bandai. I am tempted to wait until stuff starts coming out on Blu-Ray.

      That said, please elaborate if you are a fan.

      Guys,

      I posted this in Marketplace (http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=35160.msg1368000#new), but thought I would put it here too, because if most people are like me, you don’t go looking around the A&A Marketplace all that often.

      No, it is not Axis & Allies, but there is nothing saying that sales have to be A&A related.

      Many of you here may know me and will attest that I am an honest individual and will not rip anyone off. I have a good trader review here also.

      I initially intended to do this locally, but I will see if any friends here are interested. If you are, PM or email me and we can discuss payment/shipping options. Prices might go up a few bucks ($2-$4) based on shipping costs. We will have to wait and see on that. Obviously, these are all Region 1 DVDs, so non-US/Canada people might want to pass.

      I can provide photos of my specific copies for you to view if requested, I just have not yet photographed them. All of the pictures I included here and on Craigslist are exactly what mine look like.

      That said here is what I am selling:     http://toledo.craigslist.org/emd/4854112019.html

      Updated: ST:OMP Collection now sold. Total selling price revised.

      Updated: Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception and Terminator Salvation now sold. Total selling price revised.

      $33 for the entire lot (remaining items), but for sale individually as shown below. All DVDs have been very well maintained; cases are all in great condition, no scratches or imperfections on the discs. The Star Trek TNG collection has a small (1/2") tear in the outer plastic sleeve and the corners of the outer cardboard case are slightly worn, but otherwise is in great shape. The DVD cases themselves are all pristine. Star Trek set is a sleek, compact, modern collection that looks quite nice on your shelf. All DVDs come in original cases.

      $XX - The Dark Knight Trilogy Gift Set - SOLD!

      $XX - Star Trek: The Original Motion Picture Collection - SOLD!

      $18 - Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection - contains all (4) Next Generation films and accompanying special features. A fifth DVD “Star Trek: Evolutions” is included, which contains interviews and commentary on the Star Trek legacy.

      $4 - Batman Begins - Single disc widescreen film.

      $10 - The Dark Knight (2-disc Special Edition) - widescreen, 2-disc edition with holographic sleeve. Special French language optional. (Note this DVD is all English)

      $4 - The Dark Knight Rises - Single-disc widescreen film.

      $X - Inception - SOLD!
