      Yes, I distinctly remember reading this in a thread here (probably the FAQ). In particular, they were talking about the possibility of the defender spoiling an intended strafe by taking the AAA as final casualties instead of initial, so that the attackers can’t retreat when they hit all but one unit.

      I have had this done to me by the Russians as Germany. They left 1 AA gun after Germany had fantastically good dice on the first round of a planned attack outside of Eastern Poland. It left my main stack of units in Bryansk without their support, and lead up to Russia suiciding into the main German stack. There weren’t enough Germans left to take Moscow from the RAF sitting on it without heavy plane losses. America had three bombers on moscow, and attacked the Germans after Russia, and all three hit. Germany took Moscow that game, but it lost everything to do it, including that game.

      I definitely reread the rulebook and FAQ that night :|

      The most “famous” strafe is to attack Yugo G1 and retreat to Romania. Strong move which I almost always play.
      And if you score 5 hits - so be it, you do not suffer any extra defending hits or so and Yugo is cleaned up.

      Correct.
      Subs are cheap and powerful. Destroyers cost more and are very necessary to combat them.
      Destroyers (DD) are also necessary  for blocking fleets, as the cheapest Surface Warship.

      Hey Leo, if the subs sitting in 91 don’t want to attack so that they can move during the non-combat phase, you only need to declare that the subs will not be participating in combat even though there is a battle in the zone they occupy.

      This is incorrect.  All units in the space where a battle occurs participate in that battle, whether or not they have legitimate targets.  As a result, they may not move in noncombat movement.

      Any units that sea zone that you want to move elsewhere must move during combat movement.  This is legal even if they are not moving into combat if they are moving to escape combat (even if it’s just potential combat due to a possible scramble).

      If your sub fails, and the other sub survives you must retreat.

      Even if the attacking sub doesn’t sink the enemy’s sub, the transports can still do debarkment.
      It needs only that the other sub submerge.

      A transport can load units while in any friendly sea zone along its route, including the sea zone it started in. If a transport loads
      land units during the Combat Move phase, it must offload those units to attack a hostile territory as part of an amphibious
      assault during the Conduct Combat phase, or it must retreat during the sea combat step of the amphibious assault sequence
      while attempting to do so. A transport that is part of an amphibious assault must end its movement in a friendly sea zone (or
      one that could become friendly as result of sea combat) from which it can conduct the assault. However, a transport is not
      allowed to offload land units for an amphibious assault in a sea zone containing 1 or more ignored enemy submarines unless at
      least 1 warship belonging to the attacking power is also present in the sea zone at the end of the Combat Move phase.

      Battleships, aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, submarines, and transports move, attack, and defend in sea zones. They
      can’t move into territories. For the sake of these rules, the following are surface warships: battleships, carriers, cruisers, and
      destroyers. Transports are not warships. Submarines are warships, but they are not surface warships.
