    • RE: Pearl Harbor

I’ll only go after Hawaii if the UK or Russia hasn’t landed any planes in range of the Sea of Japan. If that condition has been satisfied I’ll attack the Hawaii Seazone with 2 bb’s, carrier, bomber, fighter, submarine and attack Hawaii with 2 infantry and a fighter. I suppose if you are really feeling aggressive you could hold the sub out of the combat and on non-combat move it off the coast of Mexico to block the US Pacific Fleet…but I never do this…too risky if the dice go bad at Pearl.

Such a move gives Japan some options and places pressure on the USA. USA must now defend Western USA from a possible attack…giving Germany a bit extra time. The optimal move on J2 is to take Australia from there you can hit New Zealand and take the Jap fleet into the Atlantic, take Brazil and put some more pressure on them USA guys.

On the contrary, the tranny will add defensive firepower to the allied fleet.

    • RE: German Opening Move (w/RR and 2HBS)

In a no bid game with Germany getting no extra units in Africa…hitting Egypt is a bad move. UK can counter with 3 infanty a fighter and a bomber which will most likely clear any German forces which survive the attack on Egypt. Taking Gibraltar is important because if you don’t UK can add two fighters to a possible attack on the German fleet in the W. Med sea because they now have a landing spot in Gibraltar.

    • RE: Can anyone help me with an opinion?

Only way I’m building an India factory is if Germany does not attack Egypt on G1. Then I can transport two infantry from africa to India, move my tank to Persia…and move all UK air in range of FIC in preparation for a counter on UK2. With my 4 infantry and fighter in India all Japan can hit with would be 4 infantry and bomber and this is assuming Japan can take out the Uk tranny with a fighter…a low odds proposal from any angle.

    • RE: German Opening Move (w/RR and 2HBS)

Assuming you are talking about a no bid game:

      Purchase: 8 infantry, submarine.

      Attacks:

Africa- blitz FEA with tank from Libya and move it to Algeria. Take FWA with infantry unit from Algeria.

Take out caucauses if at all possible with ground units only(Russia usually only leaves one or two infantry there). I’ll usually attack one infanty with one infantry and a tank.

Attack North Sea with submarine, 4 fighters, and a bomber.

Attack Gibraltar Battleship with Battleship, submarine, and fighter from ukraine. Also load tranny and take Gibraltar and offload the other infantry to Algeria in non-combat(if your opponents allow you to do this, some are anal about this.)

      Non-combat:

Move two infantry from finland to algeria using the baltic transport. Also move the remaining infantry in Libya to Algeria.

Land fighter in Mediterranean and bomber in Algeria.

Depending what Russia has in Karelia it may be hard to hold both Western and Eastern Europe…if I’m left with a choice I’ll trade western with the allies for a few rounds.

    • RE: What rules or options make the game FAIR?

Yes, but since Japan and Germany already have one tech each they have the advantage when rolling for tech since now it will be easier for them to get industrial tech or heavy bombers.

My name is Kurt Reinmiller. I am from White Haven, Pennsylvania(NE corner of the state). I have never played the boardgame but bought the cd version about two years ago and was instantly addicted. I am currently vice-president of Spring1942( http://www.spring1942.org ), the best axis and allies ladder club on the net. I have also created Spring’s second database, Kremlin and soon to come out third database, Battleship Row.
