I’d be interested in the name of that program.  Just right click on the program icon and hit ‘properties’.  It should give you some information that would be useful to other Vista users who are trying to find a way to play.

The 4.2 Patch is not compatible with the European version of the game.  You can download a workable version using the link on top of this page.

One of our club’s tech gurus did a little investigating on Vista issues.  Here are his findings…it seems it can be fixed.

No Iron Blitz will not work on the Warzone…it is just too buggy a game to work correctly.

Did you download the latest patch?  4.2?

Update: All router and firewall issues have been defeated!

Plotinus has done what Kali, Gamespy or MS failed to do…he has created the first working custom DirectPlay Service Provider ever written. Warzone is now able to play games without opening any ports on routers. Just download the latest Warzone client…enter a room, click on Change, check the Bypass Routers and Firewalls option, and no more port issues from firewalls or routers.

So if you previously tried to play on the WARZONE and couldn’t launch because of firewall or router issues come back and give it another try…you will have no problems anymore.

The 4.2 patch fixes the double bomber bug fyi.

Lots of players who have XP can play in the Warzone…the 4.2 patch makes this possible as well.

Problem is when people with Vista try to play the game…that problem hasn’t been solved yet.

1. Yes in addition more than one aagun is allowed to be in each territory.

2. All the PBEM clubs use 2nd edition or 4th edition rules.  Only AAWC uses 3rd edition.

2a) maybe somebody but I don’t know him.

3. A popular one is axis advantage- Germany starts with jets and Japan starts with supersubs.  Big advantage for axis in a tech game.

3a) Not sure since I’ve never played a 1-hit battleship game.
3b) That is a rule in 4th edition…never tried it myself though.

4. The CD-ROM won’t allow the rocket to move during combat.  It fires during combat if within three spaces of an enemy complex.  It is like having a free bombing run every turn.

5. Sounds similar to the wolfpack rule…which is used in some club games.  The rule is enemy aircraft cannot attack a submarine unless friendly naval units are present.

Some additional comments to other posters on this thread:

-Moving an armor one space before boarding a tranny is a game bug and illegal to do in rated games.  The CD will also allow you to move through a canal in all circumstances…just don’t break the rules.

-There is a downloadable 3rd edition rulebook on the AAWC site…it is under ‘Other options’ under downloads.  You need Winzip to open it.

Vista is a problem….but there are players who have managed to play with it.  My advice…go back to XP.  :lol:

E-bay is probably your best bet to get the 1998 Hasbro CD…just get the original version…not the Iron Blitz version which is a piece of crap.

If you want to even up the game even more….

Place two German Infantry in Libya and give the Axis their advantage…Germany starts the game with Jets and Japan starts the game with supersubs.  Having Jets makes it easier for Germany to defend both WE and EE after G1 while Japanese supersubs makes it almost impossible for USA to try a Pacific strategy.  The two extra infantry in Africa makes it harder for UK to shut down the Germans in Africa early on.
