      @Krieghund Understood. Great discussion, and thanks for the background information! I think it speaks to the greatness of the Global 1940 game that, ~10 years after publication, we can still have these types of philosophical debates about it.

      Now, we can move on to addressing the flawed rules for AAA units… :grin:

      yeah if those dice haven’t made their point about bashing the axis before, that India battle sure made their point clear.
      The other game I’m running at the moment just took a major dice swing against me today that might end that game early so write if you have room for a new game.

      Good game. Sorry the dice werent a little more even. Little battles all over the place but most felt in Russia where if Germany hadn’t broken through when they did might have completely changed the game. Very well played though.

      Good game.  This version is tough.  The sealion threat is strong enough to really neuter UK on UK1 which allows the axis to get rolling in europe.  Then its very tricky to figure out the right balance for US spending.

      With Italy off to a good start it forces UK to deal with them first and then Germany can focus on Russia which will eventually fall just due to economy.  Took a lot of allied resources to save Russia but it was too difficult for you to both save Russia and put meaningful pressure on Germany.

      I completely overlooked the saving of India earlier when I thought I had you but like you said it kind of prolonged things more than anything else.  Once I had your US fleet isolated from reinforcements I knew I could just get good position and starve you out until the right moment.  Particularly with so many US resources necessary in Russia.

      I dont know what to do in the situation you were in with India.  I dont think there was a good answer.  I probably would have abandoned it as well as you would have been crushed if you stayed and it would be a lot of wasted resources for you.  Problem was you didnt have enough firepower to threaten to take it back unless you could get airforce from Russia but you couldnt really spare them.

      Anyways.  Good game.  Time to retire Alpha 2.

      It was a tough match and you are a very strong opponent. It is nice to hear your opinion about it which is very interesting. I told you did not commit big mistakes, but in the whole war I did not understand some of your choices you now explained.
      I see dices were awful in the end, but we are talking about tactics now.
      I am saying that if they were average or a bit above, you would have not gained big advantage from those battles. On the contrary, a bad result was compromising.
      A factory can be built in Bulgaria or Prague only if Germany is in a very good position, but Poland should have been controlled longer then you did using the troops you destined to France.
      Besides, also Japan built too many armors and planes.
      Instead of attacking Persia, I would have defended trj landing fighters there and attack Australia. Or you could have put 6 troops in India leaving the English to be slaughtered in the next round for good with a counter attack in case of success of the English (I would have not probably engaged battle because the bomber could have landed only in Persia and odds were not so good).

      If that battle goes remotely normal I stay one round take out 3 or 4 inf in exchange for 2 or 3 armor

      You swap 3-4 infantry for 2-3 armors, not a big deal…
      In East Poland, even if you were able to leave a couple of armors, you were about to be counter attacked and in Bulgaria (Urss big NO) you could have left only planes . Such a move can be done only as a last chance.
      That transort should have been preserved at least with Italians fleet;
      I did not mention that I saved maybe the match in Ukraine with that attack hit and run by Russians in round 3. Had it been unlucky, I would have lost Caucasus.
      Where should I have been more aggressive?

      Way to take advantage on a couple big mistakes on our part early on and of course the dice didn’t help. Not that the dice was the only reason we lost, but it sure didn’t help our cause much.  :wink:

      I agree with everything you said.  I really fumbled on the middle east.  The push pull between sealion and the middle east is a conundrum for the allies.

      No.  Scrambling occurs during the Conduct Combat phase, so all combat movements will have been completed.  Scrambling only occurs in sea zones in which attacking units end their combat movement.

If a transport accompanied by a cruiser, moves into a seazone w/an enemy sub, the cruiser stays in the seazone w/the enemy sub & asks if the enemy sub wants to fight or submerge but the transport moves out of the seazone(b/cuz it picked up an inf in the seazone & is on it’s way to invade an island in another seazone). The sub would get a “pot shot” at the transport?

      Yes, because the transport is not escorted for its entire move.

      Yes.  The sub’s firing happens in the Combat Move phase, then the submerging happens in the Conduct Combat phase.

      Also, have another question, this applies to A&A Pacific 1940. Let’s say the US has 1 BB, 1 AC, 1 CC, 1 DD & 2 Subs in SZ6 surrounding Japan. Japan attacks w/a whole bunch of air, 1 AC(brought along to absorb hits) & is also invading w/2 Transports loaded w/troops. The Jap players asks the US player if he wants his subs to fight or submerge. The US player says obviously fight b/cuz his subs can only hit the AC. At some point in the battle, all the US surface ships are gone, due to the Jap air, the Jap AC is gone but the US subs remain b/cuz no one could hit them. What happens next?

      Can the Jap Trans ignore the subs?

      No.  Subs can only be ingored during movement.  Once you attack them, you give up that option.

      Not unless they can’t retreat.  If they are able to retreat, they may do so.

      No.  Sub shots only occur during movement phases.  Retreats happen during the Conduct Combat phase.  The subs already had their chance during combat.

      The UK and ANZAC are free to move any units into Dutch territories still under Dutch control at any time, but they may only take control of them with land units.  The US is free to move any units into Dutch territories still under Dutch control only if it is at war, and it may never take control of them.  Any power may attack Japanese-controlled Dutch territories and take control of them, as long as that power is at war with Japan.

      If the UK sends an AA gun to China…it would put them at war with Japan…correct.?

      You could do this as early as UK2 without too much downside. I’d think Japan will be attacking or disrupting convoys by J3 anyway.
