      @Clyde85:

      @Flashman:

      Why no 150th anniversary Civil War game?

      There was, it was released back in April of 2011 and it was called Battlecry, I bought and have played several games of it, it’s quite good.

      I have always been curious of Battlecry. What is it similar to? What is the gameplay like?

      @oztea:

      Strategic warfare really had no place in WWI

      Political intrigue, deal making and deal breaking, revolution and the like were much more responsible for the outcome of the war.

      Would the US ever have joined fully without the Zimmerman Note?
      Could Italy have been persuaded not to join by the Central Powers?
      Could the Marxist revolution have been put down?

      I am of the opinion that the US not even be allowed to join the war unless attacked, but their transports be moving IPCs to England and France, would make an attack necessary.

      Lets say for instance, US starts with no transports, but are encouraged to build them, and load in each one supplies for the allies.
      So the longer the game goes on, the more Germany is going to feel that flow of IPCs into Europe.
      Eventually, Germany would be compelled to attack the US transports. Instead of just “US joins on turn 4”

      The US was selling to the Central powers just as much as the “Allied” powers in the begining of the war. Remeber Wilhelm was the grandson of Queen Victoria and at first this was seen as just another family conflict between European Countries. Early in the war there was just as much reason for the US to enter on the Central powers side as the So called Allied powers side.

      @oztea:

      As for the issue of France. All Vichy territory is now just German.
      And all blue units are just free French.

      Moving the game to 1941 does away with the paradox in Alpha 3 of just ignoring the Vichy regime.

      That was something interesting in the unoffical expansion World at War. When france fell to the german blitz, the german player rolled for vichy units/territories. On a specific role they became German, or Unusable Vichy (except when attacked) or free french.

      @Gargantua:

      Yes the Germans did actually land several Covert groups through Long Island during both world wars

      WHAT?

      That said, in the RCMP museum there was a scenario like this where a german paratrooper/spy was captured in 42…

      This is one such case but there were several others.

      @Razor:

      That can be a counter-counter-trick, that is typical for black ops, they make an urban legend telling you its something secret hidden in a sealed underground room right there in the park where you walk your dog every day, and you think yes right here in my park and not in a desert yes right for sure you want me to belive that you think I’m retarded right, but then it turns out to be true, they did it right there in your park because its so unbelivable nobody would belive it. Its what they call counter-counter-trick.

      Its interesting if you get a chance to look it up but there was a military base there from WWI as it was a defence post against a Uboat Invasion of NY City. Yes the Germans did actually land several Covert groups through Long Island during both world wars.

      It was a defence post till after WWII when it went from a coastal defence post to an air station till the air station closed in the 1980’s, It was a vacant lot untill the 90’s when the park was set up. Orginally they were going to demolish everything but it had become the last natural habitat on LI for several endangered animal species. It was then turned into a park. Conspiracy theorists still think it is an active facility due to some very restricted and patroled area’s by local law enforcement. They give the response that their are still dangerous hazards that were just left but the military when they vacated the area. Its an interesting read if you get a chance.

      @Gargantua:

      I`ve studied this in extreme depth.

      The answer unfortunately is no. :(

      Do I think the philidelphia experiment happened……No, but the theory started back with Tesla and the effects of hamonic fequencies. I don’t think its a stretch to say somewhere someone tried it. Maybe not on that level.

      Folklore local to me (on Long Island, New York) suggests it was experimented with but it was ultimately a failure. The story then said a new experiemnt was started from the results out here on Long Island at Montauk Air Station (aka Camp Hero) where they experiemnted the causes of waveforms on the human brain. Conspiracy nuts beleive they opened a doorway to another dimension. There’s a couple books by a resident base psychologist who told of the events. The base is now a park (beacuse of the endagered animal species living there) with the buildings still there and several sealed underground accessways where its said the experiemnts took place.

    • RE: Why not transports as casualties?

      @Cow:

      I still find it hard to believe transports did not have a weapon of any sort on them, when their designs allow them to have aa guns equiped at the very least.

      Why is it hard to believe? You want to maximize Cargo capacity and dont want to take away max wieght from the cargo areas. Also The US especially was pumping out a liberty ship in a week. Adding armourment takes time that they were using to mass produce these vessels. Why waste it as you had escort vessels to limit the losses.
      As far as the top speed they were using outdated for the time triple expansion drives because they were cheap and can be produced quickly.
      However back to the OP, I agree with you that it is flawed not to include transports as casualties. In many surface battles higher value was put on sinking transports than combat vessels. We(USA) did it in the pacific, The Japanese did it, the Germans consistantly did it. Preventing troop or suppliesa from making it to thier destinations was often more important that sinking the enemy combat vessels.

    • RE: U-boat Pens

      Sub Pens were in the World at War Expansion for the Original Version of A&A. I beleive they cost 6 IPC and were3 built in one turn. I found the final updated rules that applied;
      http://xenogamesforums.yuku.com/topic/852/World-at-War-3-2
      6.11 Sub Pens:

      a) Moving into/out of a sub pen: For movement purposes sub pens are considered a part of the sea zone they are built in, and do not require a movement point to enter, leave, etc. For all other purposes, sub pens are considered a separate sea zone/coastal area unto themselves.

      b) A sub pen (and the subs within) can only be attacked by aircraft (follow 6.11 rules).

      c) Any other friendly or enemy ships have no effect on attacking, defending, etc with regards to the sub pen.
      Example: Germany has a sub pen with 2 subs in it on France, and a cruiser (all in the same sea zone). Britain decides to attack the sea zone with 2 battleships and a sub. Britain can only attack the cruiser since sub pens (and the subs within) cannot be attacked by ships. Germany defends with only the cruiser (the subs in the pen cannot assist).

      d) If the land area a sub pen is adjacent to is conquered by enemy forces, the sub pen is immediately destroyed.

      e) Sub pens fire each round, like an AA gun hitting on a 2 or less, against aircraft only. A Sub pen can hold up to 2 submarines.

    • RE: LOL Things the American Military has tried to make

      It is all a matter of perspective and overall picture. It can not be a % of causlties. Look at the Japanese Strike on Pearl Harbor. It was a complete disaster for them and they took very little casualties percent wise vs the Americans and Hawiian Populas. They failed their first objective of sinking the US Carriers. They achieved the Second objective in crippling the US Pacific fleet although they failed to eliminate it. The Completely failed their third objective which was to destroy the shipyard/dry docks which could be used to repair/refit/rearm the entire US Pacific forces. The last failure was in the Imperial govenrment failing to declare war soon enough which Unified All of North America Againt them.

    • Vichy French Fleet

      In Booster packs I have recieved several French Vessels. Some are free french that fought with the British in the Atlantic but most are Vichy french. The Card says they are Allied Vessels, but actually I think they should be Axis or Other. The Vichy French fleet on several occasions opened fire on Allied Fleets, However never turned themselves completely over to the Germans?

      What is your opinion on how they should be treated in the game?

      Hello Everybody,
      New to join but a long time lurker. Been playing the Original A&A and Shogun since the early 90’s with my older brother.

      I too have just started buying Naval Miniatures. I started getting them just for the astetics and my infatuation with WW2, especially the Naval History. However I am starting to get into the idea of playing games if I could ever find a place to play. So far I’ve bought a coulpe Booster sets and then Had to buy the Enterprise.

      Does anyone this they will roll out another set or do you believe they are moving on from the Naval Sets?
