      Gargantua - let’s play. I’ll show you exactly how Germany and Italy can beat Russia. I didn’t say will - there are too many variables in the game.

      Maybe you’ve noticed that playtesters the world 'round have not come to the same conclusions you have? Maybe… just maybe… you haven’t played against opponents capable of giving Russia a run for their money?

      Look back a few threads (German Opening) at my plan for Barbarossa, and tell me in as much detail how you’d counter it, if you’re not willing to play me.

      Like it or not, this game is pretty balanced.

      What playtesters are you talking about? We are the playtesters.

      Germany is stretched out more in Alpha +.3

      Getting 91 and Normandy is a tall order.

      Even if the cruiser dies, a lone ftr stands a pretty good chance against the DD and trn. I’d still try that every time.

      Maybe he’s sending both subs against it every time. Which of course means the other naval battles are stretched thinner, or he’s just letting UK start with more ships. UK will also probably get a chance to hit those subs with a surviving destroyer.

      I agree on sending even a single fighter to SZ 96. It’s a 50% chance to take out both ships. That’s a very good risk/reward ratio, especially if Germany lost some extra planes on G1 and parked others on S. Italy.

      Oops, didn’t see page 2 I guess. mantlefan is right. Taranto is exactly the same. ~65% odds in favor of the UK if there are two German fighters on S. Italy. Lose everything, and you still bloody Italy and Germany badly. Totally worth it.

      I wouldnt call it a bonus destroyer.

      It’s slightly harder to get the Italians because the chance of getting diced is higher.  You have to split up your attackers to get both sides, which means less chance of consolidating hits where you want them.  It is not, by any means, impossible to do dmg to the Italians, and you might even luck out and get better results than otherwise.

      However, if you go that route, I think you are handing Japan and easy victory in Calcutta.  I’d rather pull out and make it almost impossible for Japan to get india before America gets in the game.

      Say what? You don’t have to split up anything.

      As the Axis, I would love for the UK to build a complex in Egypt on UK1.  Then, Germany can build a complex in Yugoslavia on G2 and use the combined Italy/Germany assault on it to take it.  Also, seeing this, as Japan I would do an India Crush strategy so as to sow up the Middle East for the Euro-Axis along with all of Africa.

      I love the idea as the Axis if the UK did this for me.

      I’m pretty sure you’d get smoked giving that much attention to the Med with Germany. I pulled this off one game in Alpha+2 and ended up smaking down everything thrown at Egypt, then the US mopped up the battered remains of Europe.

      One of my favorite strategies is in danger of becoming extinct. Never in the history of all the world stage A&A games has Germany even considered, let alone attempted capturing London until Global 1940 came around.

      Huh? It’s just as easy to kill everything in SZ 97. Now you also get a bonus destroyer and transport for little effort. It’s a much better setup for the UK, especially now that they can more easily spare fighters.
