They are stuck on the AC so they don’t retreat if the AC is gone, but they can land one space away. Or I should say that they can land on an AC or island in that sea zone, not on a mainland. Also, they can’t be taken as fodder. If it doesn’t go on the battle board, it can’t be hit.

Are there parts of the game that just feel dorky or out of place with the type of game it is?
Nope.
Does your version feel dated? (I know that mine smells like 50-year old mildewy cardboard).
Not looking to buy a new board yet, but I recommend it to everyone I know.
What do you keep your pieces and IPCs in, if anything?
I try to use the styrofoam boxes, but you know how that goes. Plastic tray boxes would be nice. If you want to get real fancy, there could be raised icons to indicate which pieces go in which box.
Do you use (and how often do you refer to) the reference cards?
Use them every game. I don’t need them, but not every player has the rules or initial setup memorized.
Do you like or dislike the board? Why?
It’s very comfortable to me. I wouldn’t cry if it were changed though.
Is your box all beat to hell? Do you still have the box?
Beat to hell? Yes. Someone stepped on it and it also resides in a high traffic area at my workplace. I can only role dice on one side of it now.
If you use the box, what is in it that didn’t come with the game (ziploc bags, variant rules, etc.)?
There aren’t enough chips. No matter where I play, we are always borrowing chips from other boards or flipping over control markers. I’ve had to go out and buy a bunch of mini poker chips just to keep playing. I’ve also used blue chips that count as 10 which is handy for those large infantry stacks.
Is the rulebook easy to read and use? Can you find what you’re looking for easily?
Not really. It takes a while to hunt down rules. There are also some things that need clarifying such as the transport rules.
Do you like the box illustrations? What about the rulebook ones?
I like them a lot.
Got anything else you like or dislike about how the game or pieces look?
The country colors should be more distinct like in the other games. I’ve had a few games where UK forces were mysteriously fighting for the Japanese.
My usual consulting fee is 4000 yen an hour, minimum half an hour. You owe me $16.
