Regarding Hungary, you can’t forget the Turan I tank. It was a pretty cool medium sized tank. I think it was a variation on the Panzer 38(t).

RE: Next A&A Big Battle gameposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Here’s my three:
Battle of France 1940 – I think it would be really cool seeing the German advance against the French when they were still pretty strong and had a good army. Perhaps the French and British could have done something different to stop the Germans? Perhaps the Belgians could have been a bigger factor? Or, perhaps the German advance could have gone quicker? What if there was NO miracle at Dunkirk? By the way, I would also think a game based on the original German invasion of Poland might be pretty cool.
Battle of the Philippine Sea 1944 – This was the last real fleet vs fleet action where warships squared off against each other in history. I would like to see great fleets of battleships and cruisers slugging it out.
Tobruk 1941 – I like this idea mainly because of the heavy Italian involvement. ALthough Larry Harris has said “he doesn’t want to make a A&A Africa game”, I think he should reconsider. That is what I would really want is a game for all of the North African campaign. Germans and Italians against British and (later) Americans back and forth across North Africa? That would be great! Also, particularly involving the Americans, he could include a Vichy French component. Maybe the players could decide just how much the Vichy French resist the landings of Operation Torch. What if the Vichy French decided to put up more of a fight? What if they had German backing? Then again, what if the Vichy French totally threw in with the Allies and turned on the Axis? Interesting possibilities. Also, what if Rommel captured Cairo and the Suez? WHat would have happened with Operation Torch then? -
RE: Table Tactics New Product Releaseposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Hello All,
I just got my sets of the Table Tactics new 2010 A&A pieces. I think the tanks look really cool and I love getting them because I’m kind of addicted to collecting these little pieces. They sure are a lot bigger than the A&A tank pieces though. I thought from the pictures they would be close in size but they are almost double the size of A&A tanks. I don’t think they would fit well on the A&A game maps. Also, I don’t think all of the tanks are propotionate to each other. For instance, the TT Sherman tank is as big as the Tiger tank and bigger than the Panther. In realitiy, the Sherman was a fair amount smaller than either the Tiger or the Panther. I don’t have the actual dimensions at hand, but I’m pretty sure the Sherman was physically smaller.
They are still great pieces to collect and I’m sure they could be used for other games, or maybe if you had a bigger A&A map. I still plan to get the other countries when they become available.

I just read up on the Combat Dice thread. I saw pics for both countries and they look amazing. Can’t wait to get them. I will keep checking there for that link Jeremy mentioned for upgrading my current dice sets.

Hey Stickman,
Have you heard news on the ANZAC and French dice? I have been wondering about those as well but haven’t seen or heard anything. -
RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
It wasn’t the Fiat BR20 sculpt, it was the one right before it which was just labeled “Italian Heavy Bomber”. That’s the one that looks like the G4M Betty. I believe it’s the last sculpt on the first page of the FMG Games Pieces Project board.
-
RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Hey Lozmoid,
While the Fiat BR20 may have been used by the Japanese, I am pretty sure it will NOT be included in the Japanese lineup. In making these sets, FMG wants each piece to be unique to that country. So, I am sure the Japanese Transport Plane/Medium Bomber will be a model that was uniquely Japanese, both in production and use. Also, the Mitsubishi G4M bomber IS the “Betty”. “Betty” was the Allied classification for this bomber and G4M was the Japanese classification. Like the Mitsubishi A6M fighter was referred to as “Zero” or “Zeke” by the Allies.

What model is the Italian submarine? I know of two from my A&A Miniatures War At Sea collection:
Ambra
Leonardo da VinciIs it one of these two or another model I haven’t seen yet?

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
The first one designated as “Italian Heavy Bomber” was a mistake. It has been replaced with the SM 79, which will be considered as the Italian Heavy Bomber. The first one, which looks more like a G4M “Betty” Bomber for Japan (which I think is what it will be used for) is NOT going to be in the final Italian lineup.
-
RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Hey Jeremy,
Why isn’t the SM 79 picture on the page with all the other sculpt pictures? It’s not on the FMG Combat Pieces Italy page either. -
RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Since it looks like Germany is going to be next, I was wondering about the great “Black vs. Grey” debate. Was there ever a final decision on that?
Also, does anybody know how these are going to be priced when we get to order? Are we paying for Italy alone, which will fund Germany, which will fund the next nation and so on? I thought that when Italy came out, we paid for all 8 nations. Thus, we would get the Italian pieces right away and the others would in effect be pre-orders. Either way will be okay with me, I just would like an idea of what’s going on.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Hey Imperious Leader,
Did you make a typo on the IS-1 series for the Soviet tanks? It appears to have the same combat and movement values as a T-34 but costs 1 IPC more. Why would the Soviet player bother with them when T-34s have the same capabilities but are cheaper?By the way, I like your ideas of tech units evolving over so many rounds rather than just throwing money at researchers and hoping for the right development. Most games I play, the technologies never get developed until way late in the game when one side has pretty much won already because everyone is busy buying combat units either for an attack or to defend against one.
Do you have any ideas on long range aircraft and heavy bombers? The US and UK were more into both of these so obviously they would get them after “X” rounds but what about Germany or Japan? Would they every be able to accquire that technology? Would it cost them more or maybe take longer?

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
From the list of pieces that will be included in each national set, there are only 3 that are not used in A&A games – Commanders, Transport Planes and Trucks. I would hardly call that “half” of the pieces. The Half-tracks (representing mechanized infantry) and TAC bombers are included in the newest A&A games: Pacific 1940 and Europe 1940. Furthermore, I would point out that as the A&A games evolve, they have added new units so perhaps future A&A games will include Commanders, Transport Planes and/or Trucks. In Battle of the Bulge, they actually DO use trucks as well. Remember, the original A&A games didn’t have destroyers, cruisers or artillery.
Also, FMG is not making these pieces JUST for A&A. They can be used for many other WW2 games as well, some of which DO use the “extra” pieces.

About the Italian bomber. When FMG first showed the new sculpt for the Italian bomber and it turned out looking like the G4M Betty like WOTC did in the Anniversary game, there was a lot of discussion about it and questions about what Italian plane to use. After quite a bit of back and forth discussion, Jeremy finally came out and specifically said FMG is making the SM 79 for the Italian bomber. The one that they already made I believe they are going to use for the Japanese bomber because it looks just like the G4M.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
I have to disagree with you on the Panzer IV. That was actually a pretty sturdy tank and I think comparable to the Panther (Panzer V). They both had 75mm main guns, although I think the Panther’s had a longer barrel.
The Panzer III on the other hand was closer in comparison to the Carro Armato M13/40. The Panzer III had a 50mm gun while the Carro Armato had a 47mm gun. Armor was roughly equivalent although I think the Panzer III had better performance.
Also, the WOTC OOB tanks are some of the best medium to heavy tanks from WW2 – T-34, Panther, Sherman, Matilda. The exception being Japan as they went with the Type 95 which is a light tank.
Therefore, for uniformity sake, I think FMG should make the Armor #1 (tank) one of the light to medium versions for each country and maybe save the heavy tanks for a later set.Russia = T-26
Germany = Panzer III
Britain = Crusader
Japan = Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank(since they already have the light tank)
USA = M-3 Stuart (nicknamed “Honeys” by the Brits)
Italy = ALREADY DONEAs for SPGs, I’m not as knowledgable about them. I know a few of the German pieces – Hummel, Elephant, StuG III. I’m also familiar with the American M-7 Priest and the Japanese had one called a Type 1 Ho-Ni. I don’t know about British or Russian SPGs.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Hey AG124,
Thanks for the pic and link to that article on the P40. It was really interesting. I didn’t know the Italians built such a tank. It’s really amazing how many weapons were designed and built during the war that most people just don’t know about. I have a book “Encyclopedia of German Tanks during WWII” and I was astounded at the number of variants that came out of each basic tank design. Also, I agree that we shouldn’t replace the current tank sculpts. We’ve already taken a step backwards with the bomber to get the SM 79 (which was a necessary thing) but we don’t want to delay these pieces anymore. Here is an idea. Assuming this project goes well, perhaps one day in the future FMG could make new tanks, planes, etc. to add to our existing sets. You know, maybe later on we could see little P40s, King Tigers, etc. that weren’t covered in the basic sets as nice add-ons. Like maybe they could come up with a Heavy Tank set for each nation.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Hey Lozmoid,
I didn’t know the Italians even HAD a heavy tank. In fact, I thought that was the reason FMG went with the Semovente because the Italians didn’t have a great variety of tanks like the Germans and British did. There was the M13/40 which was more of a medium tank, the M11/39 which was lighter, then L3/35 and L6/40 which were really light. You mentioned a P-40 as an Italian heavy tank model. You wouldn’t happen to have any pics of that, would you?

Isn’t a 15cm gun kind of big for anti-aircraft?
I wanted to use this for the NEW AA Gun re: Bofors 15CM . It is the only weapon used by all Axis and Allied Nations in the Second World War.
Thoughts?
Bofors 15cm sounds fantastic.

Hey cminke,
I know this is off topic, but I was curious about the quote you have at the bottom of your posts. I thought that quote was attributed to Joseph Stalin. -

Sweden would fit yellow, since it is both in their flag, and their morale.
OOOooooh! Slam! Someone’s not a fan of Sweden. Do you feel that way about all neutrals?
