    • RE: ICs

      depends on the country… Russia and Germany should probably never buy a complex.
      UK… India, Egypt, Norway, Australia, S. Africa
      JAPAN… in the 1st round Manchuria and kwangtung
      USA… Norway, Sinkinag (in the 2nd Round)

      all this depends on the game situation of course

    • RE: New land unit: Conscript

      Interesting… although i like the Blockhouses as the 4th land unit.  kind of similar to your Conscript idea… a unit that can take hits.  I think conscripts work better as an advantage For Russia

    • RE: Any major strategy changes?

      there are noticeable changes to the strategies for both sides.   the biggest change is to transports, you cannot use them to take hits in naval battles, which changes the logic behind the naval purchases.  for example its more of an option now to buy Bigger units like Battleships. Subs are now the cheaper boat that can be used as canon fodder… but since they can’t be hit by planes unless Accompanied by a Destroyer, you need other surface warships.

    • RE: New turn order

      there was a Historical version of Revised online for tournaments or something.
      in that version they also had rules for adding Italy, to make 6 players.

      also the turn order became…

      in the 1st round………
      Russia, then Both Axis players (Also Italy if played) taking there turn together as one (Each phase done together),
      then US & UK also taking there turn together

      every round after……… the Axis (together), then the Allies (Together).

      very interesting way to play. unfortunately i never got to play this version so i dont know how well it worked.  And I dont know how it would work for 1942.

      I remember When they added Italy they made Germany itself worth 20 IPC’s,  Italy started with 12 and controlled Southern Europe (which was split into Italy & S. Europe), Balkans, Algieria.  there were other changes to the map as well.

    • RE: House rules spring 1942

      naval & Air bases could be interesting, the cost of the complex is too cheap at 10 IPC’s - america and Japan could exploit this option,  12 is probably to cheap as well,  Alt Country Combinations don’t work with the set up.  you would have to change the initial deployment, values of territs, starting IPC’s… Etc Etc. Etc.  it becomes a different game.

    • RE: Alternate Country Combos

      the problem with alternate country combinations is that the game is designed from the beginning with the idea of 2 Sides…
      AXIS & ALLIES (hence the name)…

      therefore you can’ just break up the countries differently because, they were designed to be balanced where 1 side had 2 players and the other has 3.  this is also based somewhat on Historical accuracy.    to change this would mean you would have to change EVERYTHING that has to deal with the positions of the Starting Units.  Maybe Even Have to change the money each country starts with, and the values of the territories they start with.

      It would essentially become a different game

    • RE: Any thing from stratagies to house rules and to just chatting on how ya play..

      @nutbar:

      as the allies, i typically lose UK by the time UK goes. I try to focus on the US and USSR.  it is devastating when i lose UK.

      May i ask how is it possible that you lose UK in the 1st turn???  do you mean germany invades Britain and conquers it?

      Germany can only send 1inf., 1 tank, 2 fighters, 1 bomber.
      UK has 2 Inf., 1 Art., 1 Tank, 2 Fighters, 1 Bomber, and An AA Gun.

      are you missing you 2 AA gun Rolls, and all your defenses?

      or do you mean you lose all of britains Naval Units, and egypt?
      (which is typical - and it doesnt mean UK is out the game in my opinion)

    • RE: New turn order

      this would be unfair to the Axis.  and im guessing, it would be even More inaccurate historically.  the biggest problem i see is the potential to cut off africa from Germany…
      on UK turn 1…
      buy a complex, and carrier
      Uk can sink the battleship and transport with the Destroyer, Bomber from UK and fighters from india and egypt… then move the Fleet from india in SZ 15 and maybe the cruiser, land a fighteron the carrier and a fighter and bomber on egypt and move the men there and most likely bring the gun and an infantry from india

      & Take Norway with the Battleship, 2 Tanks, 2 Infantry, 2 Fighters
      Or assault Western Europe with 2 Tanks, 2 Inf., 2 bombardments (Battleship and cruiser), 2 fighters

      place the carrier where the UK north fleet end up (either Norway or Western Europes coast), and place the complex on Egypt.
      Germany may start the game with no boats in the South (no way to threaten Africa)  and possibly not having Western Europe (or Norway) and Also missing whatever territs Russia took (most likely Ukraine  and West Russia).

      Im not sure germany starts with enough to handle all that… It would be to easy for the allies to go KGF and take germany out

    • RE: Carrier and Fighter Movement

      basically Fighters are in the air wherever they are when your turn starts, even the carrier planes. (but not your allies if they are on your carrier)  At the end of your turn they land, so you need to make sure they have a legal place to land wether it is a carrier or territory.

    • RE: Buying 1942

      @Cromwell_Dude:

      Curious.   I don’t dispute differences in the maps.   But, how are they major?   And, how do they make a difference with experienced players?

      1st…  In revised… if you had a bomber on britain… you could attack boats in SZ 63 now you can’t because Alaska is extended to the top of the map and Western canada does not touch that SZ. this could also affect moving planes to Russia through the north.

      2nd… In revised SZ 55 also touched western Canada, fighters there could attack the waters of pearl harbor and land back in W. Canada.

      3rd… In Revised Central America was drawn next to Cali and was not adjacent to the gulf of Mexico.  those men there had to move to be loaded on a transport.  In 1942, its adjacent and now you can immediately bring those 2 men with you on turn 1.

      These are major when considering USA Strategies for attack and defense.  In revised I used to park some bombers and planes in Western Canada… from there the bombers could reach SZ 13 or SZ 60 and threaten the Japanese coast and the entrance to the Mediterranean… also landed Fighters on eastern canada, from there they could attack SZ 63 and the SZ’s on the western coast or could fly to Britain if needed fast.

      Personally i prefer 1942 Map… if only it was bigger and clearer boarders

    • RE: Buying 1942

      the changes between the revised board and the 1942 board are pretty major when considering unit movement.
      I consider the 1942 game the best version over all (I haven’t played the latest europe or pacific game) but the board is too small.  If you use the revised board with the 1942 rules, make sure you draw in the changes that are on the 1942 board… they make a difference

    • RE: What to do when london is invaded

      @nutbar:

      strategic planner usually invades london. how do i deal with london being invaded? do i attack it or leave it alone?

      You need to liberate any capitol that falls to the axis… If you let them get that money AND build in the capitol chances are you will lose the game…
      UNLESS you possibly took one of the axis capitols as well.  for example… If Germany takes Russia or UK, and By chance Japan was taken by USA.  then its still a decent fight for either side for victory.

    • RE: Should the germans go before or after the british?

      @nutbar:

      it is so unfair that germany gets to go before UK because Strategic Planner usually invades UK. should i insist on uk and ussr go before germany? would USSR and UK going first then germany help or hurt the allies and would it help or hurt the axis?

      Germany can only invade with 2 land units and planes in the 1st turn… thats not enough to conquer UK unless you Miss all your AA gun shots, and All your Unit defenses on the 1st cycle of defense dice rolls, and Miss again on your all your defenses in the 2nd Cycle of dice rolls.
      … germany can only send … 1 inf., 1 Tank, 1 Bomber, 2 Fighters.  UK has 2 Inf., 1 Art., 1 Tank, 2 Fighters, 1 Bomber, and the AAgun gets a shot at Each plane.

      now if you mean on the 2nd turn … then that means UK goes before germany invades… if you see he buys transports and moves units in range of attack… then when you go with UK you will need to Buy units so you can Defend the Homeland.  and USA can send some units if need be, like a fighter, or land units if you absolutely need them.  chances are he wont be able to invade on the 2nd turn with that build up on Britain

    • RE: Should the germans go before or after the british?

      you need to remember that this version is … A&A Spring 1942.  which means this game is a simulation of what would happen between the powers from that date on.  According to this game Pearl harbor already happened…Pearl harbor attack was on Dec. 7 1941… which is what brought America to declare war on japan and rally to the war effort.  thus, the game plays as if the war was already being fought.  dont forget Germany didnt start the war controlling all of europe. In this game when Japan goes… the standard move is to attack hawaii… technically the forces you use to attack hawaii consist of the fleet that japan withdrew from the initial pearl harbor attack.  which is also why there are no Battleships in hawaii, when historically Hawaii was the concentration of the pacific fleet for america.

    • RE: I typically play a&a and lose. please give strategies.

      its hard to say… without knowing what your already doing… it also depends on which side your playing.  Axis or Allies.  honestly the best advice is to watch and learn from your opponent.  if he wins all the time, adapt his strategies, and make them your own by tweaking them… for example if he buys 8 inf with russia in the 1st round… you could try 4 inf. and 3 art.  by the numbers its only 1 unit less but the Attacking power is much greater.  or buy 1 tank, 6 inf. and save an IPC for later.

      I played a game where Germany got to take West Indies and Brazil… and held it till i built and went after it… interesting game it worked well enough to force me to buy units to get those territs back which caused some delays

      Don’t focus on the US at all.

      But what if the US focuses on you?  yeah there not a threat till a bit later but when they come you can’t ignore them

    • RE: Cooperative Attacks

      I would say no for this version of the game… but there are some house rules out there and some other tournament games where it is allowed, check those.  in this version its probably too complicated, We have used the Joint Strike Advantage in thos game where US uses both his and UK’s units in an attack, works ok as a one time option… but the rules state it must be declared during russia turn so Germany gets to prepare for it.
