    • RE: Can a transport unload in the same sea zone as an enemy sub?

      @football2006:

      Just so I’m not second guessing myself, if there was a destroyer blocking you, you could still perform an amphibious assault if you aided the transport with fighters, right?

      you can always make an amphibious assault with a transport… as long as the attacker wins whatever naval combat occurs in the SZ.  if a Destroyer and a transport attack a SZ for amp assault and there is an enemy destroyer there, combat occurs.  as long as the enemy is sunk, you can continue to amp assault the territory.  If its survives then your transports are sunk as they do not have any combat (or defense) roll.

    • RE: Rule modification

      @Nomarclegs:

      The turn sequence I’m advocating is:
      Collect income
      Place Units
      Combat move
      Combat
      Non-combat move
      Purchase units
      (secretly)… potentially very unnerving in a 4 or 5 player game

      this order would screw the axis severly.  and if your purchasing secretly whats to stop someone from changing there purchase and placing on there next turn.  and this order would change the whole point of taking a territory for its position strategically and its resources which are usually plundered upon conquest, hence the IPC gain.

      @coorran:

      Also, this link. It was on another topic in AA42. It seems like the guy used nail tips and small magnets. Neat job.

      thats interesting… i might try this.

      would gorilla glue or crazy glue work?

    • RE: Magnetic carriers

      Seems like it would be difficult and tedious to do it that way, even though I’m sure thats the best way to do it.
      is it not possible to just superglue the tape to the plane?  will it fall off without the pinning.  or is it possible to just superglue a piece of metal (cut  pieces of paperclips) to the fighters.  I would rather not deal with drilling every plane and chance making mistakes, i don’t have extra pieces.

      attempting to make the carriers magnetic, what glue would be best to use?
      the magnetic tape works great for the carriers, but the adhesive on the tape doesn’t stick well to the planes.

      @Mr.Biggg:

      One thing I was considering for next game was an attack on indo-china, 4 infantry+1 fighter and a bombard vs 2 inf 1 f.

      how do you get 4 infantry to French indo-china… there are only 3 in india and the transport starts there. it can only move 2 spaces so it cant get the infantry in persia or transjordan, and the other transport by australia is too far away.

    • RE: New AA players - problem with balance (rules?)

      germany can not use kamikaze’s… and im 99 percent positive they never used that tactic historically either.  don’t remember there being any rules for kamikaze’s in the book, but the advantages (house rules) only stated that option for japan.

    • RE: A&A Global IPC (& More) Log Sheet

      here are the Alpha 2 regular format sheets

      When printing layout should be set to Short Edge Binding.
      This will enable pages to be printed correctly so the charts for each country rounds are in the correct position front and back.

      enjoy

      @kaffieen:

      Keredrex,
      first I’ll echo everyone else and say “THANKS!” for creating these sheets they are really great.
      I believe DTDeGrave was asking about a regular format sheet with the Alpha + 2 corrections.  From my (limited knowledge) Alpha+2 is a the current set of rules endorsed by Larry Harris (the game designer).  A quick quote from his post over at his forums (harrisgamedesign.com)

      “Please use the following setups, National Objectives and listed rules when playing Global 1940. These rules, or the final variation of these rules will appear in future re-prints of Axis & Allies Pacific 1940 and Axis & Allies Europe 1940.”
      Larry Harris

      I love the initial sheet you created, and the large format Alpha+2 sheet is great, but not everyone has access to a large format printer.  If you have/can easily modify the initial sheet for the Alpha+2 changes (different turn order, and different starting IPC) as you have for your large format sheet, I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated by those with out access to a large printer.

      Great Job,
      Kaffieen

      awesome… ill adjust the regular format sheets and post them as soon as I can

      @Hobbes:

      I’ve been reading this discussion regarding the Revised and 1942 boards, and I agree with everything said so far regarding how they give 1 advantage to one side or the other. I’ve come to summarize the changes this way: the 1942 version favors less either size to use the Northern Pacific route to attack the other (either Japan landing on Alaska or US bombing SZ60 from EUS). Whether it is the Axis or Allies who are more affected that’s a very looooonnnnnng discussion :)

      good point… but that being the case… if you had to choose which it would favor more than you look at the IPC’s… america has more money to spend towards any advantageous position.
      If you give them even the slightest amount of hinderance… like more movement spaces between them and there objective.  you give the axis more time

      @Col.Stauffenberg:

      We think the allies have enough advantages as it is, so we won’t ever be using the 42 board

      actually i wrote my previous post wrong…  it should of read…

      using the board as is (the Revised Board) makes it easier for the allies to hinder the axis… the alaska territ and Sea zones in the revised board means the US can move easier from western canada to either the pacific or atlantic especially with bombers, its also easier for the US to stack units in western canada so they can protect alaska, move to eastern to jump on transports and if need be get on transports built on california to move to hawaii, in Revised the SZ55 is adjacent to both Western USA and Western Canada, in Spring '42 its not, also in revised Western canada is adjacent to SZ63 which means its easier for usa to attack that Sea zone from Western USA.  all this makes it easier for america to respond to Hawaii or any pacific movement and harder for japan to stall america and help Germany.

      I agree the lines are hard to see in germany on the new board, we got used to it, but on this forum there is a redesign to the 42 board thats much clearer and definitely worth printing to use for the game.  but those changes to the territories are important to the game and change strategies.

      ive played both boards extensively and revised gives the allies particularly america a slight advantage in comparison to the 42 board

    • RE: A&A Global IPC (& More) Log Sheet

      @DTDeGrave:

      Keredex,

      Excellent job with these aids…really helpful when we need to record and verify a take-down and re-set-up at a later date.  I don’t have access to a large format printer and really appreciate the 8 1/2" X 11" option.

      One question, will you be correcting the starting IPC values for UK Europe and Pacific in this format?

      Thanks again.

      Are you referring to the Alpha 2 corrections?
      @FieldMarshalGames:

      Do I have your permission to upload this on the FMG site to share?  Free Download section?

      thank you for asking… but i would like to 1st make sure everything is correct before you post them there.

      also, as for changes… is alpha 2 an optional version or the official changes to play the game properly?  i want to know if there is even a need for the original pages
