    • RE: Favorite band

      @RogertheShrubber:

      Alice in Chains have always been my all-time fav, pretty big fan.  Grew up in the middle of the Grunge age so my other favs are Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, 311, and Faith No More.  I am also a sucker for late 80’s early 90’s hair bands.

      What a coincidence, I’m gonna see them live Wednesday. Third row!

      Also, whenever I’m driving and my friends are with me, there is only one rule. If ZZ Top comes on, we crank it, no ifs ands or buts. Favorite band.

    • RE: AAP40 FAQ

      As I understand the rules, Japan attacking UK/ANZAC before they move into China or declare war first gives the US the ability to declare war, and until then, the US can land onto Japanese spaces and move through Japanese waters without engaging Japanese forces. My friend landed men on Okinawa and Iwo Jima as the US before I attacked anyone as Japan, other than China. The next turn I attacked the UK, and my friend argued that then the US was entered into the war, and since it was my turn, I would enter combat on Okinawa and Iwo Jima as the attacker, and he would get the defense rolls. I argued that since I owned the land, he would be considered the attacker, and combat would begin on his turn, thus making him the attacker. We ended up doing it as me attacking, and I lost Iwo Jima.

      How should that scenario have actually played out?

    • RE: Marines and Which One?

      @Dylan:

      @Krieghund:

      They’re two very different games.  The original Pacific gives Japan two ways to win.  The first way is by capturing and holding a single enemy capital (Western USA, New South Wales or India).  The second is by collecting enough victory points to win.  The victory point method puts the Allies on a clock to defeat Japan.  If they don’t make it, Japan has worn the Allies down into settling for peace without total victory.  In this way, Japan wins the game without winning the war.  This mechanism can lead to some very tense endgame situations as Japan tries to eke out that last victory point.

      If you like a suspenseful contest that may not be decided until the very end, original Pacific is the game you want.  If you like a more traditional A&A game, go with 1940.

      Marines attack on a 2 during amphibious assaults only (3 when paired with artillery).  Other than that, they’re the same as infantry.  Only the US gets them.

      You’d want to have Pacific 1940 anyway for when Europe 1940 comes out. IT’S THE HOT NEW THING!
      I guess I’ll get both!  :-)

      It’s a national objective, so during the collect income phase.

      I buy them over Strat bombers due to the fact that you can land them on carriers. Therefore, not only can you move them

      I’d consider taking the drive down. Which game? 2nd, Revised, 50?

      Stratego definitely rewards the defensive player.

      Stratego is all about where you place your spy, bombs, flag, and field marshall. Nothing else makes much difference it seems.

      i will look this up. Defiantly will buy it.

      I’ve been playing L4D2 for a couple of weeks.  Better than the 1st, but I don’t think it has the staying power of the first.  I did about die laughing the first time I played as the Jockey though.

      Play The Passing yet?

    • RE: How will Rommel get to Africa?

      Personally, I’d imagine Germany putting a minor IC on the French territory on the mediterranean, and making a transport or two there.

    • RE: What are axis or ally neutral

      @Brain:

      In all previous A&A games, Hungary and Romania have already been German held territories. I can’t see that changing.

      That would basically only leave Finland and Bulgaria as possible pro-axis neutrals (disregarding the fact that they too have been "German held territories). Considering Romania’s rather large involvement in Barbarossa, I doubt they’d have Bulgaria as it’s own thing, as an axis neutral, but Romania basically being absorbed into Germany.

    • RE: USA in global only get 30 IPC in war NO

      @Brain:

      @The:

      Maybe. But I’m also pissed b/c I bet $5 with a friend of mine that the U.S. would get over 100 ipcs when at war with all of their territories and no NOs. I thought it was a sure gain of 5 bucks.  :x

      Well maybe Larry will change the rules if you split the winnings with him. I am sure he could use a couple extra bucks.

      Larry, $2 in it for you if you add 20 IPC’s to the US. Screw game balance, you could buy yourself a double cheeseburger!

      What a coincidence, I just got off of HoI3. I love it, but don’t play much for obvious reasons, what with the slowness and all. I have a feeling it’d be far better with others to play with.

      @Variable:

      @WILD:

      Wasn’t there something called scorched earth a while back. Might have been an option or somebodies official house rule. Can’t remember. It would have been easy to implement something like that in AA50 with the new damage markers. Just roll a dice as you lose the IC.

      This was a Russian NA from Revised I think.

      I think it goes back further than that. I seem to recall it being an option on the '97 A&A PC game. The one that wasn’t a bastardized ripoff of the A&A name and was the actual A&A.

      @ABWorsham:

      I voted for the unloved Panzer IV.

      why?

      It was just an overall good tank.

      Nothing wrong with that. It earned my vote for that very reason.

    • RE: Best WW2 Videogame you have played!

      @Funcioneta:

      Hearts of Iron II is better than Hearts of Iron III: more historical and more quick to play. They did a really big mess with HOI3, specially making it 3D, that was not needed and sucked many resources really needed in gameplay, balance and historical accuracy. I heard of Mexico invading Germany in 1939 in HOI3, go figure!  :lol:

      I like HoI3 better, except how hard it is to declare war. Makes alt history harder. I haven’t heard of any bizarre things in HoI3 as you have, but in HoI2, I had an Axis of only Germany and Nationalist Spain, who, I might add, began invading Newfoundland once France was finished.

      After my first game, I’d say that I prefer VP’s, but of course, first game, neither myself nor my dad had any set strategies or plans yet, as opposed to winging it. But the way it played out for us pretty much ended up in me using my bombers to harass his transports from guadalcanal as he tried bringing supplies up while i ferried mine up and built airfields, and we pretty much sat in the slot building up navies until I won.

      Sell it for $500 on ebay,

      They’ll go for that much now???   :-o

      Last I checked, they were $425 on Amazon, so $500 on eBay would not be out of the question.

      @bennyboyg:

      Uhhh… the game has already come out… you should do more research. There are too many things wrong with your post for me to go over them all.

      I figure he is talking about the upcoming Europe map. In that case IL will move this to the proper forum.

      Considering he said AA40P, and posted to a thread showing pics of AA40P, it’s unlikely.

      Anyway, first off, Russia is not playable in Pacific, only when it’s combined with Europe. Second, that’s Mongolia, and it’s passable if you fight in it.
