      Good catch, but Karl private messaged with me today and isn’t interested in the 2nd playoff.

      Yeah, sorry guys. Normally I would but work work work is my game these days. If I had made the top 8, I’d try to make it work…

      Things should calm down by Spring and I will get back into it Karl7 Style… Kill Kill Kill!

      But for now I am trying to wind down my games. AV is catching me short right and left in our current game!

    • RE: Yes. Another "What if"

      I hate to take on my brother Argothair [he is an intellectual giant, fyi] but the US realized the dominance of carrier in 1940.

      On June 18,1940, after less than an hour of debate, the House of Representatives by a 316–0 vote authorized $8.55 billion for a naval expansion program, giving emphasis to aircraft. Rep. Vinson, who headed the House Naval Affairs Committee, said its emphasis on carriers did not represent any less commitment to battleships, but “The modern development of aircraft has demonstrated conclusively that the backbone of the Navy today is the aircraft carrier. The carrier, with destroyers, cruisers and submarines grouped around it[,] is the spearhead of all modern naval task forces.”[6] It was enacted on July 19, 1940.

      The Act authorized the procurement of:

      18 aircraft carriers
      2 Iowa-class battleships
      5 Montana-class battleships
      6 Alaska-class cruisers
      27 cruisers
      115 destroyers
      43 submarines
      15,000 aircraft
      The conversion of 100,000 tons of auxiliary ships
      $50 million for patrol, escort and other vessels
      $150 million for essential equipment and facilities
      $65 million for the manufacture of ordnance material or munitions
      $35 million for the expansion of facilities

      @Karl7

      Just a heads up on the way subs work in this game: After attacked in the first round of combat, surviving subs can opt to submerge in lieu of returning fire.

      Since the Americans only hit one sub, the other two will submerge in lieu of firing back. When mistakes like this happen, I ignore the trailing dice.

      In other words, as the German player, I would submerge the two surviving subs instead of returning fire. I am going to put back two German subs and one American transport (since the first dice for the Germans was a miss - the two after it will be ignored)

      best reference for this is the Europe FAQ:

      Q. How does the submerge rule work?
      A. Immediately before you roll dice for submarine attacks, you decide which subs (if any) wish to fight, and which will submerge. Some can submerge while others stay and fight. For example, if some of your defending subs were hit by attacking units, it doesn’t make sense for them to submerge; they might as well take their final shot before sinking. Undamaged subs can submerge while damaged ones remain and shoot back. It doesn’t matter whether your subs are attacking or defending, they always have the option to submerge provided they haven’t yet rolled an attack in this combat round. They can even submerge before the first attack; that is, you can move subs into an enemy-occupied area and immediately submerge, preventing any combat from occurring (sometimes called sub stalling). Once submerged, they are out of the battle for good.

      Got it. But then I would have put 2 US infantry in canada I think, I will edit if ok

      This may take awhile FYI.

      I have to be super careful now. A wounded AD is a dangerous AD… susceptible to lashing our in unpredictable/brilliant ways.

      I may be ahead now in Europe, but Japan is huge!

      I noticed people building capital ships as ANZAC. Is this possible in the base rules?

      Love the name! @Karl7

      Hmmmm… who could Sneakykarl be?

      @Karl7 shoot. I just saw you were on another one with cannuck and Gargantua.
      8 is a lot. I reduced my games down to four.
      Still a lot…

      Yeah, that one has been my main focus because it has a grudge match factor to it. I play them FtoF a lot and lost a couple to them last I saw them. Now I am winning against them…

      Well this games just got serious again, anyway

      @Witt I forgot that UK was in that US fleet stack and could pop the block for Japan.

      @gamerman01

      We regularly play AA50 here in the Bay Area in FtoF settings. You can finish it in a day, easy. The 1941 set up needs a bid, usually around 15, we find.

      The other great one OOB, was 2001 Pacific. If you just did the India fix, the game was pretty tight, fun and easy to finish in less than 5ish hours. (Although it has some of the old classic mechanics, so would probably cause some 504 errors in my mind trying to play it again)

      I will note, that in the future having 1 player play both Japans would be efficacious

    • RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)

      @Krieghund

      If Germany attacked and failed to take Yugo, can the UK land planes there as a “friendly” territory without landing any ground units there?

      As in, can UK attack Italian fleet and count the Yugo terr. as a potential landing space, even if no UK land units will ever make to Yugo that turn.

      Thanks!
