      Hi,

I need clarifications about the effects of declaring war to a country by country because i’am not sure about who can make what.  I’am on a game right now, turn three is beginning for Germany and no one has déclarés war on anybody. We need your lights to continue the game  :?

      Exemple

      Country Name 1

Begins at war with : ……

      May declare war to :

Country name.      Conditions.        Effects on others country

May they invade neutrals (friend, strict and enemy) when at war, at peace or both.

      Country name 2

      Etc.

      Thanks to you

    • RE: How do you win as axis?

I used to play the 1984 version.  To balance the game, we’ve change the ipc values of the pacific side so there’s more combat for Islands. The USA beginning income demain unchanged and the japan is augmented by 3. We also use Ussr restricted.

So the game is even for both sides.

I want to buy the new version. How do you balance that one ?

    • RE: Wich setup do you use ?

I just start a game alone to understand the game mechanics and explain it to my friends when we will play.

I finished the first round. Germany has taken France, Normandy, yougoslavia and bulgaria, wipe out  most of the UK fleet (Uk has taken Back Normandy).  Italy wipe out all of the UK mediteranean fleet and take alexandria (Uk take it Back). Japan advance in China and put all the fleet in the same Sz.

In turn two Sea Lion will surely work and also Calcutta and Egypt And barbarossa will begin.  The way i see the game, the axis must made the most possible damage before Us comes to war. If USA make Germany and Italy goes backward while URSS resist, than it is some for the Axis.  If USA is innefective, the axis win.  All is playing in Europe, in Pacific, USA just have to resist at Honolulu while Anzac do the same at Sydney.

Am I right or in the left field ?

    • RE: A&A as a training tool for ROTC cadets

I know it is an A&A forum and i Think your project is great.  Since A&A covers the global war, you should give try to Memoir’44 by days of wonders for the local war

The basic game is quite basic but can get tricky with some extensions (go to days of wonders site and see for yourself). If you put 2 boards togheter (overlord) you can make them experiment chain of command (especially with USSR).

All of the battle are real scenarios of WW2, so there’s also an historical value.  The replayability is already infinite because There are huge community who post scenarios on the official forum.

Defenitly worth a look and it will complete the A&A teachings (strategic and tactics with A&A and tactics and operational with M44)

Also, the game never last more than two hours (with an overcrowded overlord)

    • RE: Wich setup do you use ?

      Thank you wild bill

I usually play A&A or other games 1vs1 with the same old friend.

I Think i will use the 1942 setup if we initiate new players

After your answer and the Knp one, i Think we will go with the 2nd edition + a french infantry in FIC (can’t resolve to let the japan have it for free.  I also like the Nos Knp propose.  Especially with Us and Uk (we changed the Pacific island ipc value in the old version because we like island battle and it is historically accurate).  If my buddy agree with all that.  Since i’m an axis player maybe i will shut up with all that and go with the 1st oob.

Seriously, i will show him some topics here (maybe he will join the forum) and we will décide what we want.

Please continue with advices i found it very helping.

      Thanks again.

    • Historical rules versus game balance (g40)

I read numerous posts about historical rules like a separate Canada and rules for Vichy (just to name those two)

Since most of you seems to agree that the game is in favor of the axis, how do you (re)balanced the game if you use those two rules(canada and vichy) or any other one that sesns to slow down allies or advantage axis ?

I found the mid IC very cool and to have more NO who give less ipc. So if you have no NO ipc one turn you’re in Deep …

If i understand well, the alphas differents sets of rules, were made between the official 1st and 2nd edition ?

Is There somewhere and easy comparative between the 1st, alpha (last one made) and 2nd ?

    • Wich setup do you use ?

      Hi everyone,

I’m an old player use to the 1984 version and i’ve just get E40 & P40 tadammm (used 1st Ed)  :-D . And i remembered that this forum exist so i came here for advice on rules, houses rules and strategies.

I’ve read all the topics in the Pacific 1940, Europe 1940 and Global.

It is a little bit like jungle here !!!

There’s a lot of setups (1st, 2nd, alpha 2 and 3) and and cool house rules (vichy France and Canada to name a few).

I want to know wich setup and wich rules you like the most. Please be kind with me and
other new player and post your answer in this format, so i can compil and follow your advice to make a more balanced game. If you want to reffer to an already discuss topic, just put the links in the appropriate section.

Always remember that i have a first edition game !!!

      SETUP

Wich setup you take ? Just name it and modifications if you have made some

Exemple : i use alpha 3 setup with minus one french inf in France and one more ANZAC in Egypt.

      NATIONALS OBJECTIVES AND POLITICAL SITUATION

Make the set you use plus modifications.

      HOUSE RULES

No new ic, Vichy France, Canada, no Tech etc.

If a special rules nas already been discussed, just put the link of the topics.

      WHY

Why you play A&AG40 like this and what’s the average game time and the % of axis wins and allies win.

A great Thank to respect the proposed format and to be brief and precise (i want facts not idea, this one will come later ). This will be easier to make my idea about it and maybe help other new players too.

Also a big thank and cheers to all the people that made this game better and funier year after year !

    • Convoy and subs withdraw

There’s Germans subs in a convoy zone and allies try to claim it back.  The subs withdraw because the dice failed. And then, what happen with the (ipc) convoy, because there’s unit of both sides in it  ?:??

    • RE: South africa I.C.

Every time i saw an southern african IC is when germany as half of africa (and secure it) and/or put an IC in Egypt. In both case an SA IC always made the job to retake all of Africa but it’s become really useless when it’s done (4-5 turns max)

    • RE: Who will win the Stanley cup?

i wish anahiem will win but i think that devils will. why simple, both team have win all the game on their own ice ( as i post this, game 6 is on and the ducks lead 5 to 2 ) NJ win the first 2, then duck gets the two others, the fifth one for NJ and now the sixth game is going to the ducks so the last one will be paly on NJ ice and all the fans here will be so noisy !!!

so i think NJ will win the stanley cup, but i sincerely hope i’m wrong !

    • RE: Something from long ago…

i’ve take those ipc values in a scenario from the PC version. i always use it when i play to the board game.

      FOR JAPAN

      japan = 5
      okinawa = 2
      wake island = 1
      salomon island = 1
      caroline island = 1
      new guinea = 2
      borneo/celebes = 2

note that the total ipc for japan at the start is 28 instead of 25

      FOR USA

      Midway island = 2
      hawiian ilsands = 3
      alaska = 3
      eastern usa = 9
      western usa =8

or if you want, give 10 to both USA mainland terittories to have a total of 39 so it’s matching the the new total of japan

      FOR UK

      australia = 3
      uk island = 7

the total is the same but whit a worth of 3 australia may be a good alternative for the usual india IC against an agressive japenese player.

just try it if you want but i assure you that these new IPC values add a new twist in the game because USA and UK can go for the japaneses islands and japan as to defend it because half of is starting production is here. on the other hand, australia, hawai, midway and alaska have more attraction for japan who can take a total of 12 ipc in the pacific (including alaska) whitout great opposition. try it and have fun 8)

    • RE: Wich game is the best to begin playing with?

A&A original is the best. You get the whole to unified or conquered and you’ve got 2 axis players. In europe germans are alone and in pacific japan is alone IMHO being alone in a team game is a little bit boring…

A&A is the best ! and if you want a mor advanced version of A&A get the xenogames extension 1939:the world at war. The map is redefined with more countries to take upon, the games is starting at the begining of the war, france is still there (but for a short while:P ), the neutral countries have units on them etc… but start with the original one and you’ll begin to get bored of it, get the wolrd at war. And then, if you want to do something new with old stuff get A&A pacific and europe. Personnaly i don’t have these because like i’ve said before playing axis alone…You’ll never regret it if you do things this way, i promise

    • The perfect country for the newbe

when i’m playing A&A, there’s almost a newbe player. The eternal question is, wich country we can give to the newbe.

Russia is vital for the allies to stand, if she’s wiped out of the Map the allies are surelly doom to die

If the german players does one little error that’s could cost the game to the axis, so if that player is a newbe…

UK must stand on every front to block the ¨always ipc hungry¨ axis. But you have to know exactly were you have to put the most of your ressources, were the axis players are the most dangerous…

Support of Japan to smash russia and join the Germans terytorries is absolutely necessary and don’t forget to keep the US at distance

And then US’s role is vital to support the two others allies, and a couple of US error can place the allies in a precarious position…

Maybe i’m totally wrong but the songs remains the same : wich country to give to a newbe ???
