some addictions are preferable to others…at least you’re not actually a heroin addict…the side effects of a A&A addictions are not nearly as detrimental…

    • RE: Best Position…

Yes, in fact our latest game is a free-for-all…

Germany got (yes believe it) U-boat interdiction and Wolf packs for their NA’s, and rolled one die for a 3 (super subs) on their first turn. I’m America, and I’m in a mad dash to combine my fleet so I can put up a defense against the impressive German Navy. If their rolls go well in the east, their Naval power will be enough to hold off any aggressor at sea, but we’ll have see how this actually works out as the game progresses (we’ve only played thru 1 round after initial setup). Germany looks harsh right now: they took Karelia with 4 INF and 2 ARM, West Russia with 1 ARM, and Ukraine with 2 INF, 1 ARM, and 2 FTRS. I’m not even Russia and I’m pi$$ing myself at the thought of subs attacking my still as-of-yet vulnerable navy.

So yes, Germany will do well in a free-for-all game, especially if they have the advantages mentioned above…

perhaps you should focus on being more clear in your posts than being incredibly obnoxious with smilies and attacking others when they post something you disagree with all because you were too vague in your initial post.

Gees, sorry Duke, just having a little fun, don’t get so defensive man…

And I thought I cleared this up when I said ‘geographically’ the best position…

Anyways, I can’t believe no one is voting for USSR. They are economically and thus militarily weak, but their geographic position is more favourable than Germany’s, and in my opinion, thus makes them a “stronger” nation…

    • RE: Best Position…

Ok, I’m qualifying best position as best position geographically…And if that’s the case,

germany starts off with the best “position” depending on how you define that.

      :?
Duke, you speak the crazy talk. Germany is right in the middle of all their enemies, and if they don’t take land, they will be the first to go…Germany has the worst position (geographically) in the game. That’s why I ranked them last. Take or be taken, and I hate that crap. If your rolls suck, Germany frequently goes out first, though not always. No wonder they were so aggressive (WW1+WW2) throughout history. I would take Muzza Russia over Germany any day of the week 8-), whoop your a$$, and look great doing it . Â

      As for USA, geographically,

they have the best positional defense being on the other half of the world than everyone else, but they have the worst positional offense since it takes them at least 2 turns to take any territory of much value.

Wait, this is a bad thing? I see this as an advantage. Your capital is never really in danger as USA (except if I’m your opponent ). It does take a few turns to get mobilized, but once you’ve established your shipping/transport lanes, America is truly a contender, and can do some serious danger. Besides, by the time they actually do show up, their opponents have been sufficiently “softened” from previous combats so as to make USA’s job that much easier. They don’t get action right away, but once they’re started, America is a monster…
      Ah Tomato, Tamato, I guess…
In light of what I’ve said, this quote is quite telling,

usa starts off in the worst position but usually grows to ending up with the best.

      :-o

However, all postees feel free to pick and rank the powers how you like and decide on whatever factors you deem fit, be it economically, militarily, politically, but please justify your answers so we can all enjoy and deliberate over your conclusions :-D.

am i supposed to take a weighted average over all turns and over all probable game scenarios or something?

I don’t know Duke, but it sounds like you got a problem there buddy. :-)

Cm’on people, get the vote out!!

    • Best Position…

Which power has the best position on the board (geographically, militarily, etc.) and why. Vote and then rank them as follows, best to worst:

      1)USA
      2)Japan
      3)Russia
      4)UK
      5)Germany

    • RE: Opinions on stacking limits?

Of course, I mention these odds because I played this battle against AgentO…The results were pure attrition, which favored me as the defender.

I will take my odds as defender with less INF…However, as an attacker,

the above mentioned odds are suicidal and tactically unsound and I would

postpone my attack until I had a smaller INF ratio to my opponent, he/she

did something stupid (like attack me), or I had made a technological

breakthrough with which to destroy his/her INF in mass quantities…In a

way, HeavyBombs/CombinedBombard/Rockets are the antidote to your

large INF stacks…That’s why I make prudent investments in my

technologies to give me the winning edge over my opponent…Stack all

you want, my breakthroughs will win me the game everytime…

I still maintain that a balanced force will beat a one-dimensional force everytime…Que no?

My overall point is that attacking with INF and only INF won’t win you many games…at least not when I’m your opponent :)

    • RE: Favorite Unit?

Yes, but a well-maintained Navy will bring swift victory––

In fact, how do you intend to take island capitals without boats? And how do you intend to protect those boats from air attack without carriers and fighters? And how do you intend to prevent sub warfare without destroyers? It seems all these are necessary conditions, and I therefore don’t see how one can write-off the importance of Naval superiority in this game so easily…

    • RE: Favorite Country

I hate playing Germany, because they have the worst position in the game; they’re are surrounded on all sides. Germany’s fate is fairly black and white: they take or they get taken, and I hate not having options.

I’d take Russia over Germany anyday; their capital is not as vunerable, and their position is immensely better. Russia can take massive losses and still be tenable because of the distribution of their land empire.

I took three capitals once with Russia: Berlin to London to Washington, and owned the entire world for all intents and purposes.

    • RE: Opinions on stacking limits?

Personally, I think the “IPM” is overrated and not that effective anyways. If my opponent buys all INF, and I buy a good balance of forces (Obviously, I’ll have more INF than any other unit as was discussed in AgentO’s thread–shouts out to Imperious ), then I will be victorious the majority of the time (assuming average rolls). For example, say my opponent has 13 INF, and furthermore they’re Japanese Bonzai’s. Let’s say he attacks a more balanced force (of approximately similar value) comprised of 5 INF, 3 ARM, and 1 FTR. What odds would you take? Who will win: attacker or defender?

What about Japan/USA vs. USSR/Germany/UK? Where would the garrison go then? I put it in Western Canada… This gives great position on America, and puts them in a defensive stance almost right away.

those people were poor so nobody gave a fducj if the levees held…

this has nothing to do race but more with economic status. If you’re poor you get pizzed on, which as I said before, is much worse than getting pizzed off …these are dis-enfranchised people who have no political voice and so nobody gave a fducj…

all of our prayers should be with the people of NO, because the people always suffer the most…

this is one of if not the major disaster(s) of our time

You probably don’t care though, since it’s only O and myself who give a rats’ arse about this topic anyway. Still, had to put out a disclaimer–you understand :D

    • RE: Alternate Colonial Garrison

I’m only winning because I played my politics right. The US is isolated but this would still give them the jump on Africa, which will hurt Germany in the long run, but Germany is already vunerable in this setup. I stand by my guns: Russia, UK, Germany, Japan, USA.
