      Under LHTR, in the description of AA guns, it does include a specific exception to AA guns ONLY moving in NCM when being carried on TRNs.

      It is not 100% conclusive.  But it is more than enough to make me think that the AA gun does indeed offload in COMBAT movement (but of course cannot “attack” so it is ignored as a unit for the attacker).  If the Attacker wins the combat, they finish setting up the AA gun in NCM, and it protects the newly captured territory.  If the attacker is thrown back into the sea, the defender gains the AA gun.

      At least, that is how I read it…

      But, unlike the IC, the AA can be moved, and on the second round of “control” the owner of the AA can move it elsewhere.

      Just not viable without tech.  3.5 IPC per round on average is 17.5 IPC done in 5 rounds.

      Actually, it’s less than 3.5 average per round because you have to factor in AA gun which negates the bombing roll; I think it’s 2.9 if you average that in. Since you lose 2.5 IPCs on average per round (15/6) then your net gain is something stupid like 0.4 IPCs per turn per bomber.

      I don’t think bombing is a good long term strategy as in buying bombers to whittle down someone’s economy, but I think you should bomb as often as you can when you have nothing else important to do. Bombers may not have good returns, but the bombers you start with are free so any damage you get done is a bonus and isn’t negated by you having to buy it in the first place. Sure on the first turn every nation with bombers either has something important to do or isn’t in range to bomb with their bombers, but past that the bombers aren’t useable every round in normal combat so might as well do damage to the enemy. You can lose the bombers, but like wayne gretsky said every shot you don’t take is a miss.

      But it IS a simplification in terms of game mechanics.  And I recently LOST an argument where “game mechanics” won out over logic (see the topic Multinational Units on Attack).

      Movement of each type occurs all at one time;  all combat movement occurs at once, all non-combat movement occurs after that, THEN the place units phase, then collecct income.  There is no non-combat movement of FIGs after unit placement, which the old rule REQUIRES.  That is the “simplification.”

      which is true.

      Darth was implying to use it as a Egypt Counter on UK2 instead of UK1 or for some other use to pester the japs later on or something.

      the fleet by all means can survive. can the fleet by any means be really effective later on? maybe but on turn 1 they have a great opportunity to do greater things then float around continent of africa.
