I see the logic now (well maybe 80%), the earlier version always boiled down to huge stacks of infantry in Central Europe. The team that designed AAR did an excellent job of addressing that (lower cost fighters, more powerful tanks, and a revised map). I still think some tweaking of the AA gun could be accomplished. Maybe letting them fire whenever a plane flies over but increase the cost (7-8 ipc), any thoughts?

RE: AA Gun Question
Let’s see if I have this straight. 1st the AA guns fired in the Original, then didn’t in 2nd Ed., then did in AAR OOB, then didn’t in AAR LHTR. The only reason I can think of for constant changes is there must have been some concern that the AA gun was too powerful. Frankly I don’t see it, even if they do get to fire there’s is no guarantee of a hit. A 1/6 chance, you can’t get any worse odds with a 6 sided dice.

RE: Where Did You Get Your Board Game?
I bought my AAR at Toys R Us. It cost around $40 (about a year ago).

RE: AA Gun Question
Any idea on the logic behind the rule change. It seems counter-intuitive (was the japanese gunner sleeping when the UK flew over India?)  :?

AA Gun Question
A UK fighter flies from Moscow to attack German forces in Persia then flies over Japenese controlled India to land in UK occupied FIC. Is the fighter subject AA fire as it flies over India?

What would you do
The last several games I’ve played my friend has been able to completely shut japan down.
It’s Japans turn, russia has 6 inf in Bury, 2 inf 1 tank in Sink, 2 inf in yakut. UK has taken Borneo & New Guinea (2 inf in each) has AC+fgt+tranny off Borneo, Des off Kwangtung (jap tranny was sunk), sub in the solomons (jap sub submerged after 1 round), 2 inf+1AA+1 IC in India, 1 inf in Persia, 1 inf each in Australia & NZ. I can expect the US to build an IC in Sink, fly 2 fighters from Hawaii & W. US & Bomber from E. US to Soviet Far East plus the Russian inf from Yakut. Russia will almost certainly counter-attack any incursion into china.
If you were Japan, what would you do?

RE: US tactics
Combining the Jap fleets in SZ59 (Kwangtung) allows you to continue to shuttle troops to asia and be in a position to obliterate the US Solomon fleet if it moves to take one of the high IPC islands. The US fleet would be gone before you had a chance to build an IC.

RE: UK Pacific Fleets
Assuming a successfull attack on Egypt in G1, is it worthwhile to combine the UK & Aussie fleets? I got away with this once but whenever I tried it after that, Japan was all over me. It seems like the only option for these fleets is to do as much damage UK1 and then write them off. The last couple of times I took out the Jap transport with my destroyer, landed troops in Borneo (AC & tranny w/fighter support) and New Guinea (tranny) and attacked the Jap sub in the Solomons (aussie sub). Any thoughts?

RE: What to do with my Japanese Navy?
I played a game recently where my Japanese Naval units were all busy retaking the Dutch East Indies and dispensing with a UK fleet that was spread out all over the S. Pacific. I only had Air Forces to attack the US at Pearl Harbor. This had the advantage of depriving the US sub of firing back. Has anyone else tried this, I may try this again in the future.

UK Pacific Fleets
Has anybody come up with a viable strategy for keeping the UK Indian Ocean and Aussie fleets intact?
