    • RE: J1 Two IC Build

      @cyan:

      @Cobert:

      @cyan:

      other option waas without the bid because you said no bid before the longer 2trn,2tanks and 1 art bid was for without a bid. 2x8+2x5+4+30. the 2trn, 1ic was for with the bid. 16+15=31

      I see I see.

      I still like to build 3 transports or 2 and a sub (depends on kwangtung transport), since I like having 4 in the water by turn 2.

      misssed m point, why do you need a sub  J1?

      A sub purchase on J1 is a bad idea.  If the US evacuates the pacific you have spent 8 IPC on a unit that is worthless.  Better to wait until the US moves so you can see whether they are going to contest the pacific.

    • RE: Strategic bombing your way to a win

      @Jennifer:

      As I said, ask JSP what it’s like to be on the business end of an American/British bombing strategy. :)Â

      It sucks!  Jen has been very effective with her Bombing campaign.  After the US/UK bombers are done Germany is lucky if they have enough income to replace battle losses.  Had it not been for Rommel’s brilliant Suez strike opening up the canal for japanese naval forces, the Allies would have been in Berlin ages ago.

      As for DAAK, I’m with those who think it’s AA guns are way too accurate.  I use the in-house dice roller.

    • RE: How do you respond to Sea Lion threat as UK?

      My personal preference is for the UK to buy 1AC, 1DD placed in sz6 along with the fighters, the BB & Tp from sz2, and the russian sub. Land the Canadian tank in UK.  Follow that up with US reinforcements (2inf, 1art, 1tnk, 1fgt, 1bmb).  If Germany has his BB & TP in sz13 move the US DD to sz12. In order for germany to carry out “Operation Sea Lion” he has to destroy the sz6 fleet.  To fight through that fleet he will have to divert air units he was going to use during the landing and will probably loose some of the transports.  If he does still attack UK he will be opposed by the combined UK/US ground & air forces.  Doubtful he will prevail.

      I’d have to say sz5 also for the same reasons switch listed.

    • RE: The most important territory?

      Egypt is the Linchpin for control of Africa.  Intially the battles for control are between Germany & UK/US but in later rounds it’s the battleground for allied forces coming through algeria & japanese forces coming through the middle east.  In addition control of the suez usually hinges on who contols Egypt.  Control of the suez is a strategic assest for the side that controls it, especially Japan.  Denial of the suez (neither side controls both egypt and tj) is the second best option and favors the allies, which usually means they need to control egypt.

      An interesting concept, I wouldn’t mind giving it a try if anyone is interested.

    • RE: US IC in Norway

      If the US is transporting troops through the northern route then I’d leave Norway for the brits.  But if the US is transporting troops through Africa then a Norway IC has some merrit.  It allows the US to provide ground units to support the brits/russians on the northern flank without tying up transports.  A few US tanks to exploit wholes opened by the brits can be very effective, and can be followed up with russian reinforcements all before germany has its turn.

    • RE: Do you take Astralia/NZ/Hawaii as Japan?

      If I get $2 from the bid and buy 4 transports I will head for Australia as soon as possible.  Taking Aus/NZ early is a good move because it deprives the UK of 3IPC for the rest of the game.  Hawaii I will take later after I have an IC in Asia and have my transport bridge set up.

    • RE: JAPAN _ trannies vs. IC

      The reason I won’t buy an IC on J1 is because the situation is too fluid.  Russia normally will have stacked 6inf in Bury plus 2inf & possibly a tank in Sink.  Japan has to attack China, Pearl, and destroy the remnants of the UK IO fleet.  I find it risky to commit to an IC before I know the outcome of those battles, especially China which for me always ends up being a bloodbath.

      @djensen:

      Oh, one solution is to stretch your window wider.

      Meanwhile, I’m working on a better solution.

      Please hurry, my monitor is old, and so are my eyes.  A 1024x766 resoulution isn’t an option for my tiny little monitor.

      How about disabling the ads until you get the kinks worked out?

      I use IE 6, Microsoft’s browser is the most widely used but tends to have problems displaying webpages written while using another browser to view them.  I had this problem all the time when I wrote webpages usinge Netscapes browser as the viewer.  Webpages written to be viewed by IE almost never have a problem being viewed by other web browsers.

    • RE: Should PMs be posted or private?

      I guess I’m sort of split on this issue as well.  Clearly messages sent between private individuals  should be kept private.  But PM’s sent by someone in their “Official Capacity” probably don’t warrant that high of a “presumption of privacy”.  I assume that the recent message was in the nature of a reprimand, if so, and the receipient of the reprimand wishes to make it public, I’d say that was OK.

    • RE: JAPAN _ trannies vs. IC

      @Jennifer:

      I like that idea too.  Though isn’t there something better you could do with 32 IPC?  Maybe set up an insurance policy against an American Pac Strat with 3 Transports, 1 Submarine?  Gives you a legup.

      I like having the 4 trn because it puts in place the infrastructure to max out the Japan IC.  If the US evacuates the Pacific the sub would be worthless, so I don’t buy any until I see what the US is going to do.

    • RE: The Fleet Chewer

      I very rarely consolidate my fleet, unless the US is building up naval forces in the pacific.  I like having 2 fleets one operating in the Indian Ocean/SW Pacific and the other operating in the N Pacific/SE Pacific.

    • RE: JAPAN _ trannies vs. IC

      I like to give Japan $2 of the bid so I can buy 4trn on J1.  The existing trn gets sent south on J1 to either raid the southern islands for troops or attack Australia/NZ on J2/J3.  I will usually build my 1st IC in FIC but no sooner than J2.

      It’s better to let UK take norway to offset the IPC’s lost in Africa.
