    • RE: Simple new buy for U.S.S.R

      It’s a little light on infantry.  I try to buy at least as many inf as other units.  Some buys I’ve tried in the past:

      1fgt, 1tnk, 3inf-My personal favorite.
      1tnk, 1art, 5inf-Good choice if you’ve moved a lot of Inf east to counter Japan.
      3tnk, 3inf-Not bad, if you still have your original tanks it makes for a good Armored force.
      3art, 4inf-good for defense and trading dead zones.

      I rarely go for an all infantry buy, since russia is short on offensive punch to begin with.

    • RE: Bidding??

      The purchase of an IC on J1 is risky, because you have to committ to the IC before you’ve secured your position on the Asian Mainland.  If your attacks go badly you could end up with an IC you can’t hold.  Also you haven’t seen the US opening move, are they going for a Pacific Strategy?  What happened in the attack on Pearl?  There are just too many variables on J1.

    • RE: Atlanta Ga

      The Atlanta Underground and Coca Cola Pavillion are pretty popular destinations for first time visitors.  If you get a chance Dante’s Down the Hatch is popular restaurant & Jazz club, it’s laid out like an old Spanish Galleon.  It’s located…where else…on Peachtree.

      I’ve never used mapview myself.  I am quite content with Abattlemap.  It’s easy to use and since most gamers here use it, it makes map swapping a breeze, especially now that we can upload our maps directly to the game thread.

      Is 1.3 still the latest version?  Is there a 1.4 in the works?

      @froodster:

      Do you agree that a good player can beat a bad player even if the bad player rolls better dice?

      Yes

    • RE: You sunk my BattleBoat!

      I like my fleets to have at least 1BB, 2 is even better.  But realistically I don’t usually buy BB, they are just too expensive.

    • RE: Hey, remember that time when….

      @ncscswitch:

      My first League game with JSP, R1.

      I made a posting error as Russia.  JSP held me to the error even though it was an obvious error.  On the re-roll, I won STRONGER than I had on the first set of dice (which had already been above average).

      @Jennifer:

      The time I attacked JSP’s combined British/American fleets in SZ 37 with everything I had. Major battle. Hundreds of ships counters (representing thousands of ships, more then could fit in the territory, IMHO) with very slight odds in my favor. (54% I think.) Won in a landslide due to massive accuracy by Japanese Submarines in round 1 and round 2!

      Though, he won the war, Admiral Yamamoto successfully prolonged the fighting by a full 3 years.

      Paraphrasing my alter-ego:

      Six months ago hardly anyone knew my name. Now everyone wants to be my friend a peice of me. I wanted respect. Instead I have become a wishing well a target with legs. Ah well, now I go to spread happiness to the rest of the station board. It’s a terrible responsibility but I have learned to live with it.   :-D :-D :-D

      …"hey, you big stinking cheater, learn to throw the dice against the side of the box or I’ll break your damn fingers, you friggin’ cheater!"Â

      That sounds appropriate to me!  :evil:

    • RE: How do you typically play the Americans?

      I’ve played an atlantic/pacific strategy as the US with some success.  On US1 you can assemble a fairly decent pacific fleet with an investment of only 16 ipc, leaving 26 ipc (the equivalent of Russia’s income) to be spent in the atlantic.  With a continual invest of 1/3 of US ipc’s to the pacific you can be in a position to threaten Japan within a few turns while still spending the equivalent of Russia in the atlantic.  It’s a tricky balancing act but it provides alot of opportunities as well as a change from typical KGF scenarios.

    • RE: You have HOW many games going on?

      I currently have 5 games in progress, 1 on hold. On average I’ll have 3 going on at once.  Once you master posting, use Abattlemap, and upload your map after each turn it’s pretty easy to juggle multiple games.

      @Jennifer:

      Strength wise, the Shadowships were best.  Appearance wise, I think it’s a toss up between the Narn and the White Stars.

      How typically female…“I like the pretty ones”  :-D

    • RE: Babylon 5

      I don’t have a favorite episode, but the show had some great sub-plots.  The interaction between G’kar and Londo was great especially when G’kar “gets religion” and becomes Londo’s body guard, what sweet Irony.

      The struggle between Babylon 5 and Psi Corp made for some good episodes…the whole “plans within plans” thing.

      I also liked the internal Mimbari power struggle leading to deleen’s disolving of the grey council.

      And of course the overall plot of Good vs Evil was well constructed. I too was a little disapointed with the climactic battle, but any other outcome would have been just as dissapointing.  I think the writers wrote themselves into a corner on that one.

      @Jennifer:

      They didn’t change it.  She + Marcus, that’s Hetero.  She was never lesbian.  You are thinking of Talia Winters

      Susan and Tallia had a brief affair, and in one episode Susan admitted she was in love with Tallia.

      @balungaloaf:

      and jsp, dammit man, i cant get enough of you avatar. its freaking awesome. how haughty and pompous and perfectly fit for londo to sneer at others as they read your posts! :lol: PERFECT!

      Are you suggesting that Londo and I have something in common?  :wink: :-DÂ

      @balungaloaf:

      ps. how do you get pictures on avatars? i’m trying to get the one from futurama. where they show the 76th president and he’s a huge alien sitting on a throne that rests on human bones, its freaking sweet.

      You upload the picture in your personal profile.
