That’s an interesting take on the IC in egypt, and I agree that in some ways leaving the German fleet alive is a benefit to the allies because it siphons strength away from the main front in Russia.  That being said, Africa holds more value strategically than its IPC’s would suggest, I would think that a dedicated axis player would set up a 1-2 on that factory if you were to leave the german fleet alive.

Provided you instead destroy the German fleet as soon as possible, how do you intend to defend the Egyptian coast against a Jap player who will use his fleet in the Indian Ocean?  I think you have to devise a way to hold Japan in the pacific, even perhaps a small US fleet build to bait them.

So, assuming a decent battle, you hold pearl sz with 1 bb, 1 ac w/2 ftrs and a sub.  The American can counter your fleet with a bb, 2 ftrs and a bmb, along with the sub already stationed off Japan.  I think as America, you should counter and destroy that Jap fleet.  If the Japanese split their fleets like this, then you have to destroy half of it.  This will make Japan’s job harder of controlling the pacific and threatening Africa from the Indian sz.

I think a safer attack on Pearl is 1 sub, 1 bmb 1 ftr(maybe 2 if feeling unlucky)  This way you are not risking your fleet and can protect the new transports you are dropping.

Considering that 1 bb and 1 AC can’t even reach a home island sz, that means you are only defending those transports with 1 cruiser.  America can hit SZ60 on US 1 with 1 ftr 1 bmb 1 sub.  Its just too many ships to protect them all adequately.

What do you normally hit Pearl with?  How do you adequately defend the jap sz for your new transports?

I personally think 4 is a little too many, thats 5 with the one you start with.  I go with 2 trn 2 dest.  This gets me the 3 I need to operate in the pacific as well as the destroyers I’ll need to hunt down those pesky subs.

the more I think about it, if buying an IC in india on UK1, its best to buy 2.  Put the other in Safrica.  It can support the India IC, and provide the troops to contest Egypt.

I agree, it seems they fixed a lot of the problems throughout the series.  No longer can you have a fleet of just 1 BB and a hoarde of transports.  Transports are near useless other than shipping troops across the seas.  Naval warfare is a lot more in depth with these and the sub rues.  Also the new, cheaper costs make buying a battleship a reality instead of a waste of money.

I doubt very much that an IC on round 2 is a good idea.  At that point just be glad you can and are holding India, and concentrate on Germany.  The point about getting it out there early is for the early production.  By round 2 UK should already have another direction that it is concentrating, most likely the Atlantic.

If putting an IC in India, I think the best strategy is to not compound an error.  I would suggest an attack, with everything against FIC.  That’s 3 inf 1 ftr and a bombardment vs 2 inf 1 ftr.  You have only a 60 percent chance, but over 2/3 of a chance of clearing the square.  That’s most of Japans counter attack troops, and most importantly his only land forces, provided you took out his transport with the carrier.

If this battle goes horrible, I would forgo the factory in India and instead place it in Safrica.  Using it to build a redoubt to keep the axis in Africa busy.  If it goes well you guarantee holding the India, lower the attack troops against China, and you make another 3IPC’s from FIC.

That being said, I don’t think it is a winning strategy.  I would prefer the IC in Safrica and a counter on Egypt UK1.

    • RE: GTO AA42

Thats too bad.  When it was free I played a few games.  Now that it costs money I will play no games.  Its just really hard for me to find a 6 hour block of time to play a game…in one sitting.

Problems I found with the system:
      1.  no turn marker!  I mean cmon!  Is it round 6 or 7, I can’t remember.
      2.  ftrs don’t provide support against Strategic Bomb raiding.  Its becoming a popular strategy to buy nothing but bombers for Britain and US, they are cheaper and still can bomb Germany to oblivion.
      3.  No function to save a game and pick it up later, no function to be a bystander and watch another person’s game.
      4.  No pause button.  Some of us have to let the dog out when they want to go, not when I want to let them out.

    • RE: How to slow Japan enough in KGF?

Why not use your British troops, in conjunction with the other allies to 1-2 hit Japan when they are next to Russia.  Britian and US should be trying to bring as many infantry and tanks to Russia as possible in order to build a counter to the Japanese stack.  This force can be used against either Axis or defend Russia.

I would put the defense of Russia above the attack on Germany.  Also, once Germany has been reduced to Germ/Wue/Sue you should try and hold them there while refocusing on the Japanese.

***EDIT by Russia, I am referring to the capital zone of the same name, not the entire country.

    • RE: Kgf vs. kjf

I think KGF is ‘easier’ because it is easier to corral and blockade Germany.  They really only have one way to go, East.  Whereas the Japanese, because of their fleet have more options and are harder to contain.  You could think you’re doing a KJF strategy only to have Japan build an army on the home islands and move their fleet and aircraft to Europe.

Germany cannot escape your blockade, Japan has that option.

    • RE: Lets talk Germany Round 1

Provided you are not concerned with capturing Ukraine, it can be worth fighting for a round or two to kill the German infantry at the front.  Killing those fodder units plus retreating to Caucusus will save the factory and lower his counter on WRus.  I also like attacking Belorussia.  Its an easy win, plus kills 3 German infantry.  The only problem is German can and will counter you there killing any units you leave there.

I’ve been leaning towards taking WRus heavy as my only combat.  I like attacking Norway, but at the same time I would rather have the Germans attack Sz2 than capture Africa.  That bomber can be crucial in either battle.

Double post I know, I tried to report this post to the moderator, but the site won’t let me.  I would like to move this post to the Spring 1942 thread on this forum.  Thank you.

    • How to counter a KJF strategy in Spring1942

Buy all tanks on the first round as Germany!  In fact, provided the Russians have a bad round, or spend many IPC’s on a BMB/Sub combo, or move all their infantry east, you should always buy all tanks as Germany.  This allows you to have an advantage in far Eastern Europe.  Now, instead of Russia dominating WRus, the Germans are doing it because of their speed and firepower.

The second round needs a decent infantry purchase, perhaps only 4 armor and the rest infantry.  This is to start a stack of infantry moving east, do not worry about defending WEur until round 3 at the earliest.  Once those infantry join up with the armor that is penning in Russia, you should be able to take Caucasus and Russia.    I attack at anything over 80% chance of victory.

In this strategy, the German fleet in Med is irrelevant.  Use it as long as it survives to gain a few bucks here and there.  Be wary about transporting additional tanks to Africa.  Be prepared to vacate WEu if allies are threatening a landing.  Just make sure you have enough to counter attack, and always leave a minimum of 2 infantry there.  That way they have to send a few combat units to take it out.

Without getting lucky, I have yet to see a Russia that can stand up to an 8tank purchase Rd1 provided they purchased BMB/Sub, took horrendous casualties, or moved east.
