    • RE: Combat movement and scrambling

I would agree with your opponents, if you were scrambling on your turn.  However, to scramble it must be in def of a sz during your opponents turn.  Tell them it is the same as landing on a friendly carrier.  Would a Germ ftr on an Italian carrier get to defend itself?  Yes!

The new scrambling rules are a bit confusing, but once you get the method down it becomes quite obvious.

    • RE: Horrible dice leads to game over

Indeed, in my last game, 3 german subs took out a bb and dest…on DEF!  This whole game has been sick in the Atlantic, another sub has survived against a 2 dd attack, twice!  also an italian sub near Brazil accounted for another US dd.  Best part is my opponent constantly lamenting the unfavorable results in the altantic, every time he goes up against a German sub now he just expects it to hit on def.

    • RE: ANZAC Strategy

provided Italy has attacked west and taken the french NAfrican coast, there’s another possible 3 dollars for them.  Also, if Japan attacks J2, then I think moving on Brazil is a wise idea.  If Japan is waiting till J3 or later, then going after the money islands is best.

    • RE: Convoy clarification

Is China affected by convoy zones?

The way convoy zones work is during a powers collect income phase, say for instance UK Pacific, any enemy occupied convoy zones are deducted from your ipc total.  So if Germ takes Greece, and there are UK ships in the Aegean, then Germ would lose up to 2 ipcs in their collect income phase.

    • RE: My Major IC

I agree with you Gamerman, another option is to turn them over, they pick up much easier then….if only A&A had experimented a bit, they might have found that if they print the image on the other side people can pick up the counters!

I actually went and sold my old IC’s and AA guns from my many out of print and no longer played A&A games.  Kept enough for my purposes and sold the rest on EBAY!

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      …only for you though gamerman!:)

Another question regarding the IC rule.  Can Japan build a major in China on the 3 ipc territory along the coast?  Is this territory considered Japanese?  If not, why then is the coast of asia not Green with Japanese control markers instead of Yellow with Chinese control markers painted on the map?  ( i know they have chinese control markers to denote where china can move…but a blurb about it in the rule book would keep the board less cluttered)

A further thought, I really appreciated the fleet markers in A&A Pacific, but thankfully in this version the sea zones(For the most part) are large enough for big fleets.  What about the idea of adding ‘field marshal’ markers for armies on land?  I am finding Eastern Europe woefully inadequate for small armies let alone big ones.

….yeah, I switched to using the term ‘allied’ because the specific nationalities are not important…It was a further clarification for everyone…including Gamerman!:)

    • RE: Dumb Question

I can answer the first question.  Its important that Germ have 1 sub survive to round 2, this is to deprive UK of a 5 ipc NO.  Other than that you should attack whatever suits your fancy.  Leaving the UK fleet intact is probably a mistake, in fact 1 of those bb’s must go.  Also UK only has 2 trns to start, and they are valid targets as well.  Lastly, depending on with whom you plan on capturing SFrance with, you might want to slip a sub into the med early to contest the UK NO.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

A further clarification on Mightypol’s situation.  Since the Japanese ‘scramble’ aircraft are the one’s defending, the allied fighters and ships wouldn’t get to participate in the battle.

    • RE: Sealion with Scotland landing G2

Is taking scotland that necessary for an attack on London?  I mean, a better naval purchase G1 is 1 cv 1 dd 1 sub.  This gives you another surface ship, another sub in case UK gets lucky and sinks all your other subs, and that dd will come in handy either against Russian subs or to block allied fleets.

Sell me on the 2 trn 1 cv buy please! :)

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

I’m a bit confused with convoy raiding, playing with the option rule, only German subs count as dropping 3 ipcs?  Are other subs 2ipcs and surface ships 1?  Is there an ‘official’ option that ups convoy damage to 2 and 3?  Also, what is the theory behind sub convoy disruption?  Is it to deprive cash, or make subs more relevant?

BTW, for the record I really like the convoy idea, of representing merchant fleets, but why are there so many zones?

    • RE: UK attack on SZ 95 1\. round

yeah…we tried it.  I think that’s the first move everyone sees when they set up the board.  I’ve recently had to bring additional german aircraft to Tobruk or the UK players plasters that army and Italy has nothing in Africa.

    • RE: East Russia Forces

I play them defensively.  I find that if they march into china, they can only capture Korea, the rest go to China.  And Japan usually has a few spare subs just hanging around that are perfect for placing in the convoy zones off Asia.  Now the allies don’t even get the money for Asia they thought they were.  Meanwhile Japanese armies march deeper into China.

Also, supporting bmb purchases from moscow can’t even reach the front lines, better to withdraw and shorten your front, while getting closer to reserves.

    • RE: I almost pulled it off

I lost a game after 2 rounds to an utter failure in France.  retreated from Normandy with 1 arm and took paris with 2 arm.  France recaptured and forced me to do it all over again.  Even getting paid twice by France didn’t offset the troop losses and time lost.

    • RE: Barbarossa

Hey mantelfan, this thread is a bit outdated, but how do you survive and thrive as Italy?  Doesn’t England go all out with forces already on the board for domination of the Med?  That seems to be the current in my games.  Any advice would be appreciated.

    • RE: Some defensive russia advice

Best way to defend Russia?  Don’t withdraw if you can last through G2.  Place all but a screen of your units in Epol.  When Germ attacks take Poland and prepare to crush Germany.  At the very least, as so and so pointed out leave Epol strong enough to resist an Italian attack because it is the best location to stage your army.  I would add that mostly tank builds will help hold Epol.

    • RE: Egyptian Lockdown

ugh, I can’t seem to get any traction with Italy.  The brits have been hitting me hard of the first turn and never stopping.  My opponent moves his CA/bb from english channel to sz92, moves the carrier to sz94 with 2 ftrs and screens sz 96 and 98 so I cannot hit Egypt.  Along with this he pops Tobruk and lands 2 inf from England in Algeria.  This leaves Italy with more targets than they can deal with and twice now I’ve ended up losing the Italian fleet.

I am thinking of changing my Italian buy from 2 inf 1 art to 1 sub I1.  Also moving 2 Germ ftrs from the Paris battle to Tobruk in noncom to save that army.  If i combine these moves with a G1 capture of SFrance then on I1 I can take Malta heavy and then stage these Germ aircraft there to protect the Italian fleet.  My opponent has been concentrating on taking out Italy as soon as possible, anyone else had this problem?

I also have been building 1 cv 1 dd 1 sub on G1, and experimented with other sub builds.  Getting an early sub advantage while England is pinned could be crucial in the long game.

    • RE: China Cluster Campaign

this is a good strategy for any nation at any time, and is thoroughly used in my playbook.  If my enemy can’t blitz, why waste an inf?  Stack em to win people.

Thanks gamerman, does a declaration of war against ANZAC by japan mean that US can then declare war on Germ on the next US turn?

UK declaration of war against Japan:

Can UK declare war?  Does ANZAC follow along?  Can ANZAC declare war and UK follow along?  How does this affect Japanese/US relations.
