Well my next match is going to be with me as Allies and I am going to try this 100% pacific strategy. I was wondering what will be best for the UK to do to assist in this strategy. Is it to blow its load early trying to stymie Italy, or escape with as much material as possible to fight in the South Pacific?

RE: The French
You could give Germany control of SFrance and Morocco to Tunisia, leave the units static and sink the French Med fleet. That would be similar to the old Xeno game, Perhaps add Syria to the mix.
That old Xeno game was actually pretty good, but I remember it having some big issues, like if Germany didn’t take Poland on the first turn Russia would take it and stack there.

RE: Sealion counter
Speaking of ending a game too early, I had a game recently when after London fell my opponent would ask me at the end of each Jap turn (he was axis) if I wanted to surrender. My response was always lets play it out and see. After 12 more rounds he surrendered when his offensive couldn’t pierce the Russians defenses and US recaptured Africa from Italy. Those extra IPCS meant US could do whatever they wanted.

RE: Can Japan move through usa waters when not at war with usa?
i think theres another thread on this, but the rule is the only restrictions are on US, not Japan.

RE: Japanese Declaration of War
If Japan can ignore France by not declaring war, is there any other trigger other than the Jap capture of FIC? Basically, can France declare war after a certain point if they are not at war with Japan?

RE: Thoughts on Industrial Complexes
China’s main weakness is not being able to march into Korea. In the late game Japan can ignore a resurgent China because they are trapped in their homeland.

RE: Thoughts on Industrial Complexes
I will admit this is not a bad house rule, free wounds for a capitals IC. I wouldn’t make them some astronomical number though, perhaps 2 wounds for a Major and 1 for a minor? That way the ablative wounds are just an asset to beef defense and not the backbone of the defense.

RE: Alpha 2 Sea Lion
Well, not sure how you can hold UK but it might be possible. What if Germ buys 2 trns G1 and then 10 more G2? Now he can land with 13 loads in Scotland G3 and hit london with 26 ground plus aircraft G4?
I’d love to be able to hold UK, just not sure how to do it, does it include a US1 buy of a carrier to station in the Atlantic to ferry additional ftrs?

RE: AAG40 FAQ
If you think that’s cheap just don’t tell the Allied player they can do the same. Pretty devastating for Japan when US clears the blocker, UK moves his carrier 3 spaces closer, ANZAC flies off the carrier to kill a trns that was considered safe by the Japanese….

RE: Alpha 2 Sea Lion
I’m a bit more conservative with my G1. I only hit the bb in sz11 and the CA off gibraltar. This way I can perhaps get a sub from the atlantic to join my fleet off Denmark. I also have been purchasing the 2 trns 1 CV on G1 so that I have a credible threat on a G2 invasion of Scotland with 5 inf 1 aa. I have been leaving the Italian army to die in Tobruk lately and landing 2 ftr 1 tac in SItaly. This way most of my airforce is available to clear the English channel if needed G2 but most likely their prescence will keep the remaining UK ships away from the coast of Europe. G2 land in Scotland. G3 land in london. G2 expect to buy 1 dd rest trns, the dd is to add a cheap soak wound in case UK tries to sink the 8 or 9 trns in the Skaggerat.
I’m more conservative G1 because I don’t want my opponent to scramble, so I send maximum attackers so it is unwise for him. I also hit Normandy.
I think when going 1 CV 1 dd 1 sub G1 that you are actually better suited to switching to Barbarossa and hitting Russia G3.

RE: Do you raid?
Only the UK and US really used SBR to it’s fullest. They went right to the heart of German production. Killing it’s ability to produce anything.
Yeah, I hear Germ had a tough time producing babies out of Dresden after that city got hit.
All nations in WW2 hit civilians. Carpet bombing was pretty much a strategy of hitting towns with factories in the hopes that you hit the factory. SBR’s should be equally worthless to the axis and allies war effort. Had the US built transport planes rather than bombers and bombs, the war would have been over by Christmas of 44.
Just because it was a tactic used in WW2 doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be in this game, it was a very wasteful tactic and…pssst…didn’t really help the allied cause like it gets trumped into in those WW2 magazines.

RE: Alpha 2 Sea Lion
There are 2 main approaches to Sealion. G1 buy 2 trns or G2 buy 10. The 2 trn buy is a bit trickier because if done right you can unload 5 inf 1 aa G2 and then unleash on London G3.
If going the 10 trns G2 route, don’t be afraid to wait till G4 to take london, provided you can do so with overwhelming odds. This will make Russia lunge towards your capital, but a timely withdrawl of troops from london combined with proper builds can stem the tide. Your russian player might also get uppity and send some troops towards Japan.
Expect Italy to have to lean a bit more towards ground troops if going sealion, Germ won’t be able to help defend the Italian coast so Italy will have to do it all themselves.

RE: Do you raid?
I don’t SBR either, I used to when IC’s didn’t have an included aa gun and the IC was undefended. But with the new rules I can always find another use for my bmbs.

RE: Russia collect money question RE: Manchuria?
I don’t think UK ftrs can land in russian territories until they are both at war with Japan. So if Japan didn’t attack the allies J1, then….not sure how this could work out. I suppose UK could declare war on Japan UK2 if Japan didnt…so I guess it is quite possible. Still I don’t think I would be committing that many russian ipcs to the east, I prefer to march most of those inf back to moscow.

RE: What's the best to buy in the Pacific?
I don’t think Italy should be purchasing anything for the Pacific, it is too hard to send reinforcements through the suez, even with an IC in egypt those troops are better spent defending africa.

RE: Facility question
pg 12 states explicitly that it is possible. Hard to mis-read it. Be more specific if you are still unclear.
-
RE: Facility question
I’m not sure, that information would be in the order of play. Repair of facilities occurs before purchase of units, so what you need to find out is when ship repair happens. Is it during the repair phase or purchase phase?
ah, found it, check page 12 of Europe rule book.

RE: The French
?? I was referring to Advanced third reich in the post, A3R’s rulebook is really large. Take a look at it sometime.

RE: Italy and Alpha2
Italy should never have an easy early game. They can do well in the mid game if Germ went Sealion and captured London. Italy should never take Gib I1. It is in UK’s interest to use those french ships as blockers, and the only way to do that is to block the sz off Tunisia with a UK ship. Now Italy can not go west, and the capture of Gib is the easiest way for Italy to control the Med.
My opponent uses his UK fleet units in the Med to slow Italy and force them to be more methodical. He completely hems in the Italian fleet, putting 1 blocker in sz’s 94,96,99. He has even put a CV alone or with 1 ftr to try and force Italy to attack that sz instead. What this does is give UK 2 turns to mess with Italian NO’s, if they can eek out another turn then USA will join the war and take over the role of squashing the Italians.
On the Mideast NO’s, I think its a horrible idea to have them as allied NO’s. Considering that in my games 10% of the time Iraq/persia are held by the axis, 10% of the time they are un-captured….80% of the time UK takes Persia UK2, then attacks Iraq UK3 and the Axis never even wander close by. These ipcs are already UKs, why give them extra per round as an incentive to capture that area?

RE: The French
Now you’re talking Advanced Third Reich, but to play that game you need 1 to 2 pro’s to walk you through it. Try reading the rulebook, I believe its 40 pages…and then there’s the supplement.
I think they did a great job with France, other than vastly under-representing their navy, which could be under-represented because most of the ships went vichy anyways. I look at France after the fall of Paris as vichy. They don’t earn money and if the allies decide to protect their french holdings they don’t get paid for them. France can’t produce.
As Italy, I cringe when I have to take French spots because I know US is wetting its lips at the idea of money in africa. Lately I have been falling back in Libya and fighting the french there, moving into Tunisia-Morocco is just handing ipcs to US.
