I’ll leave it here. Should be enough to show how a game could play out. The challenge with the Allies - especially the US - is to keep a steady supply of supply and forces flowing to the front. Easier said than done, though. Gets really hard as the Allies drive further east. The job of the Germans here is the same as that of the French in the 1940 scenario: delay the Allied advance and wait until the Allies have overextended themselves and are short on supply, then hit. Preferably before the Operation Dragoon Allied armies show up on the south east of the board. While doing all this, slowly start to build and man up the Siegfried Line to provide a strong defensive barrier. Because by the time the Allies get to the German frontier, they are very strong.

What are people’s thoughts on the Maginot? Did it perform as intended?

I think it did. It was meant to be such a scary defense line that the Germans would never dream of attacking it and force them to go through the low countries, where the main French army would meet them.

But, I do think that it was too high an investment in resources compared to the results, even though it did work. They could have achieved the same result with far less commitment of resources.

And the Allies hold the line by bringing in reinforcements from the Commonwealth and Algeria. A fair bit of back and forth in this game. Still hard to say who is going to win this game, even though the Germans are likely to hold Paris, they have lost their tank strength to keep pushing forward. Here they will need to rebuild the tanks and bring them forward, which will take time. The German planes need to be rebased closer to the front as well, and getting supply up to the front is starting to be challenging. And the British are now in France with some real strength.

I’ll leave it here. This should be enough to demonstrate how a game would play out with lots of back and forth. If the Allied player groups his tanks and mech properly, and uses his airforce enmasse, then yes, the Allies do have an even chance to defeat the Germans. Usually best to delay the German advance and wait until German supplies are stretched thin - usually when they are gunning for Paris - , then attack in force with the aim of cutting them off.

I have a copy of Iron, Blood, Snow & Mud by Phalanx games.

I added Axis & Allies pieces and control markers to replace card tokens that came with the game. Have not played it, ironically. Just have too many games.

      Asking $40 plus shipping

      Message me if interested.

@barnee said in How much complexity do you want in your Axis games?:

I prefer a base game with a lot of optional rules or scenarios or both.

yea, so the base game would acomplish what Roger prefers and the optional rules and scenarios would be for people who want a more in depth game.

      It does both.

@GovZ I am fine with normal luck. I gripe about it when bad luck shows up at the worst time, but I accept it.

I could do global, I just prefer to do Europe or Pacific for quicker and shorter games. I also prefer OOB with bids.

      11. Now it is the Allied turn. The same procedure is followed as before. The defending CAP fighter shoots at the incoming planes, and they get to fire back.

      12. The Japanese CAP fighter misses, but the Allied planes shoot it down.

      13. Both planes select the same carrier group to go after. The ships miss their AA fire, so the planes are free to attack.

      14. Both planes score a hit on the carrier and it is sunk. Planes must now return home.

      15. Planes on both sides must land on their carriers. The US plane lost its carrier, and so must ditch at sea (destroyed). Both sides may reshuffle the composition of their groups. At this point, the Japanese player decides if they wish to retreat, and they choose to continue the battle instead. The Allies, however, choose to retreat, The Allied ships return to port and the Japanese fleet continues on its original mission.
