Canada’s barely international
… hah… hah … hah …
My store here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada has copies. They’ve set one aside and will sell it to me on Tuesday.
@Brain:
Where is the one with the white flag?
Damn, someone beat me to it!
I like scuplt 3 with the soldier running and gun ready.
It would be neat if the French units came with little white flags :-D.
(Someone had to say it.)
To answer your question; we are going to make the NAVAL units a few mm larger than the standard AA units in the WOTC games. This allows us to show more detail in each unit.
I am still unsure if you are saying that your ships will be larger than Hasbro’s new and enlarged BB sculpts from the latest games, or if they are larger than the old pre AA42 BBs released back in August?
FMG, I am not picking your product apart, but this would allow me to judge whether just getting Italians would look funny on my board compared to the other pieces. (In scale, at least)
Also, are the pieces hard or soft plastic (In case I wish to paint them)?
Cheers
That’s it, I’m convinced.
I have wanted Italian fleet sculpts for so long now.
FMG, how big is this ship in comparison to Hasbro’s enlarged ships in AA42? Just curious, as I am now pledging to buy your product.
Cheers
I use the roundel with the 3 axes and bushels instead. It stands out pretty well from the others, and looks better in my opinion (As well as representing the regime intended). The coloured roundel with the single axe and bushel is nice too.
And I did notice the mistake on the colours of the one they used as well. I believe Kreighund also had mentioned this?
In addition, I hate the colour they used for the Italian units. I prefer to use the British units from revised with the light green to represent the Italians instead, as they stand out better. I may actually take the AA50 Italians and spray them that same light green, but I’m not sure how paint will stick to that shiny plastic. May need to use an etching primer first.
Or maybe I’ll wait to see if they use a different colour in AAE40. Wizards seem to like switching colours from game to game.

How is the game itself?
I didn’t really think it offered much beyond Avalonhill’s games. And I thought that the map was needlessly big. Unless you have a banquet table to play on, you’re using the floor. The design of the map I didn’t care for, but that is just taste. I ended up selling mine after just playing a couple of games.
If you are getting it for the pieces, you can buy them separately. Just remember that the pieces are all German sculpts that are shared by all nations.
Let me point out that even though I didn’t care for the game, customer service from Pegasus games was excellent. I had a badly crinkled map, and though the store Ai bought it from would do nothing for me, Pegasus shipped me out a new map the same day I talked to them.
We need an Axis & Allies type game that is WWIII with cool pieces. A 70s/80s Nato vs Warsaw Pact or more modern.
I had a copy of this game as well. Has since been sold - not what I wanted.
As has already been stated, all countries have teh same German pieces.
The ships certainly be used in Axis & Allies. There was the Bismarck for a BB, Graf Zepplin for a CV, and the late late war type XXIII (is that the right designation? Can’t remember). I just prefer the waterline approach of Hasbro’s ships.
The planes are double the size at least. The fighter was a Me262.
2 types of infantry: regular and Waffen SS. They are a bit taller than Hasbro’s.
The artillery is about the same size - it is the rocket artillery used later in the war.
2 tanks: a regular tank that is a Tiger, and a heavy tank that is a Maus.
Their choice of pieces I really thought was odd to represent what they wanted, like teh fighter, sub, artillery and heavy tank. Especially when it came to the Maus for a heavy tank. The Germans only built 2 prototypes, and it was a complete failure.
The pieces are really nice, though. I kept 2 Tigers to use as heavy tanks for myself. I also kept 2 Russian Tigers and carved Josef Stalins out of them. Turned out well.

After looking into Nuclear Armageddon on Boardgamegeek, it looks like getting a copy is only possible direct from the designer - and that others trying to get it have had not much luck, or poor results even when they got a game.
Buyer beware on that one.
Thanks for the heads up on the Supremacy pieces. Strata games may be teh way to go, unless I want pewter - which I don’t.
I was hoping Table Tactics would do modern ships, but it seems they haven’t done any new molds in years.
Cheers
Table Tactics has modern tanks, jet fighters and helicopters, and molded in the Axis & Allies colours, and to the same scale more or less.
Civilization put out by Eagle games also has modern pieces, but I forget what they provide.
That carrier in Nuclear Armageddon looks nice. How big are the ships in that game?
How big are the ships in Supremancy, and in Stratagames? Are they in scale with Axis & Allies?
Cheers
Since they are offering a complete set of pieces that can replace the old ones, why would it matter if the new colour matches the old one?
I would rather FMG gave us light green italians. Regardless, I’ll pick them up … unless FMG will offer them in another colour down the raod.
I’m seriously considering it. I’ll let you know.
Cheers
Hmm …
I might get it just to use the pieces to augment my Napoleon in Europe.
As I’m sure you all know, we are doing this not to make money (that would be CRAZY and a bad investment) but to have the COMBAT UNITS on our own game table and to share with the community.
Been following this on and off since the spring. Glad to see it unfold, but I hope the profit for this will reward you for your seeing this through. Count me in a pre-order.
There are a lot of pages to go through here, though … what colour did you choose for the Italians?
Cheers

I wish I could take credit, but this one is all Avalon Hill.
I love you anyway, man! :-D
PS, how about Italy getting some new sculpts and a different colour?
Working on it. Can’t promise anything, though.
Good to have you on our side. Any hope for the Italian marker, by the way?
Looking forward to these games.
Cheers

Refreshed sculpts means that each unit’s mold was redone. The result is a sharper mini with better detail. Compare them with the Anniversary pieces and you’ll see the difference.
And they are very nice. Absolutely better quality than the $100 AA50. I’ve already swapped out the pieces. Very much appreciated, by the way, along with the bigger BBs and fixed German cruiser. Thank-you.
And I like having the Soviet fleet represented, even though I don’t buy any. Its just cool to have them, though.
