That’s it for tonight. I’m going to have a difficult time plugging the holes in the Russian front. I’m going to try to form a defense behind the rivers and let the Germans come to me. The 2 counterattacks I did in Minsk and Kiev hurt him, but I can’t keep losing my heavy hitting units. Need to pull back.

The first post shows the starting set up. This game starts in fall 1939. There is a spring 1941 and summer 1943 set up as well, but this game is the fall 1939 set up. Germany started with 2 subs with 3 more in the build boxes.

That’s to force you to bring more to that zone that would otherwise go somewhere else.

OK, so I filled up my convoys again and added more destroyer escorts. I am backing off from the Germans in Russia, leaving him the Donets basin. I did have a successful attack in Rostov, but he has heavy hitting power in the area, so I need to keep my distance until I get a better defensive line.
I’m ready to land in spring 1943. Probably Brest so I can get the port so I can keep my units supplied. I bombed him in France, but his fighters took out a coupe of mine.
Italy has just one more push to get the British out of the Middle East. I will make my stand in Kuwait.

Hopefully people will see that I take care of the game and buy it. I need to get rid of stuff.

RE: Rail Movementposted in House Rules
I am not actually refering to Axis & Allies, but other games where an air unit has to be based on a space and it conducts operations from there but always flies back to that space. So by rebasing, I would mean not just the air unit, but the ground crews, fuel, spare parts etc … everything an air unit needs to operate.
Same with a naval unit. All ships have a home port. Rebasing to a new port means more than just moving the ship.
And even ground units are pulled from combat and shuttled to other parts of a front.
I suppose all this would be ‘redeployment’ rather than railing.
But I am not content with let’s say Germany having its entire airforce move from one side of europe to another. Is that even doable? Or UK’s entire fleet rebasing to Malta. Is that doable? What is more realistic?
Again, not Axis & Allies. Think more Rise and Decline of the Third Reich.

Well, I lost what I had in North Africa due to being unsupplied. So much for that. But I have pushed Italy back from Kuwait. And I don’t think he’s going to reinforce.
Germany went around Stalingrad, but pretty sure he will hit next turn. He’s also poised to hit Leningrad next turn as well. But I am now in northern France quite solidly with air superiority. I think next turn will be his peak. He’s not buying anymore subs, so I have that to look forward to.

Introduction to World War II on the Western Frontposted in WWII on the Western Front
This section of the forum is dedicated to the game World War II on the Western Front. Please feel free to ask questions about the game, and share strategies.
This is a boxed game with mounted folding map. Rulebook and charts are printed on high quality glossy paper.

This game is available through Combat Miniatures:
https://combatminiatures.org/collections/historical-board-games/products/world-war-ii-on-the-western-frontGo here for an unboxing video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zovJIIEcCs&t=563sIt is a game of the lightening fast Blitzkrieg that shattered France in 1940, to the massive Allied push from the beaches of Normandy in 1944, the Western Front was a battlefield of strategy, sacrifice, and high stakes.
Take command of German or Allied forces in this dynamic, turn based strategy game where every choice influences the outcome of the war. Can Germany shatter the Allies in France and threaten the United Kingdom itself in 1940? In 1944, will the Allies break out from the beaches and start their relentless drive across France and into the German heartland? High stakes require bold decisions!
Outwit your enemies, manage your resources, and rewrite the story of the West in the ultimate World War II showdown!
Even though this game comes with its own rules, game mechanics and map, consider this to be an unofficial expansion to Axis & Allies 1940: Europe, as you will need the pieces from that game to play.
The game includes rules for terrain, such as forests, mountains, rivers, wetlands, and beaches. Game mechanics allow for rapid exploitation and reinforcement. The optional event cards add unpredictable events, such as storms, civil unrest, and political interference.
Two scenarios are included in the game:
The Battle of France, May 10th, 1940. The Germans are about to launch their long awaited invasion of France and the Low Countries. The French, British and Belgian armies are positioned north of an expected German attack, but the Germans have their forces ready to smash through the Ardennes forest. As the Allied player, you will need to quickly reposition your forces to blunt the German attacks, and maybe even push them back to Germany. As the German player, you have the initial advantage of the Allies being in the wrong place, but you will need to be fast to reach Paris before the Allies regroup.
D-Day to the Rhine, June 6th, 1944. The Allies land in France. Will the Germans contain the Allied breakout, or are the Germans better to defend behind the Siegfried Line? As the Allies, you will enjoy numerical superiority in planes, tanks, and men. But as you drive deeper into France and then into Germany, you will find that keeping your armies supplied is a real challenge. The German player will need to either contain the Allies, or at least slow the Allied breakout and advance to keep them out of Germany. Taking advantage of the long Allied supply lines and bad weather will be crucial …
What is included? The components found in the base set are:
- 1 18x27 mounted folding game map
- 1 colour illustrated rulebook
- 1 double sided battleboard
- 4 double sided set-up charts & player’s aid
- 30 event cards for The Battle of France

- Fortress markers
- Beachhead markers
- Supply markers

RE: World War II in Europe turn by turnposted in Other Games
My how things can turn when you are not paying attention! I cut off all of the Germans in the South of Russia, and took Stalingrad back. This is huge, as he cannot resupply them. They will surrender at the end of his next turn.
I now have half of France, and he’s pulled back into Germany. Looks really bad. It is the end of fall 1943. Next turn is winter 1944.
