      @Jennifer:

      Interesting.  That’s in order on the list under the map, I presume?

      I’d have expected New York to be in the top 5.  Illinois I figured would have been much lower.

      Yea I also thought New York would be at a much higher position too.  I wasn’t surprised to see my home state California to be at the top.  Stuff there is pretty expensive.  :-(

      A great movie I saw was called Rosenstrasse it is in German but it is a movie about Aryan wives who are married to jews.
      Don’t wanna go into too much details but I certainly liked it and if you can find it I would reccomend it.
      It doesn’t have any fighting however but it is WWII Nazi Germany based

      Industrialization was bound to kill slavery.  however there were enough radicals in both parties to make it a major issue in the conventions.  so much so in the Charlestown convention that democrats were willing to lose the election rather than nominate stephan douglas who was THE states rights candidate.

      @balungaloaf:

      i wouldnt use wiki for this one.  its so popular the pc police would never let them say how it came about.  it would hurt gay sensibilities, b/c the gay community knows the disease began to spread in their cirlces….they just want it on the DL.

      I wouldn’t use you as a reference either, so I think wiki is a better bet.

      but without a doubt, WITHOUT A DOUBT, the disease was begun in gay circles.  which means someone from africa came a plugged some gay guy in the butt, and that act of indecency has cost a momumetnal number of lives.

      Without a doubt, the disease began with another species.  That’s how it started.

      @balungaloaf:

      and back to falwell, yes forgive him, and those who he didnt like.  thats the point of christianity.  thats why its so great and the best and true religion.  all you do is go on with your life, you dont have to like someones evil or debauched ways, sometimes fight them if neccessary to save others from harm, but always forgive. its a nice way to live.

      Forgive him - well, I didn’t really care about him before.  I’m more likely to forget him.  But he was an egregious misrepresentation of Christianity.  And for you to say that you can go about your business, hate on liberals all day, and still be a Christian, well, I’m sorry your religion is too much “work” for you.  No wonder you are Catholic.

      @balungaloaf:

      what other religion is all about forgiveness and everyone getting to heaven to be with God who wants to.

      Buddhism, to name one.

      all other religions are about killing in the name of God, which the christian canon is against.  buddhism is about doing what you are told at all times(so the powerful can boss you around)  and hinduism is racist to the core.
      shintoism for japan led to a savage warrior culture.

      There’s not an iota of truth in this entire paragraph.  Furthermore, if the US were truly a Christian nation, it would be very different: no Iraq War, no poverty, no exorbitant wealth (Jesus sure did sound like a commie, didn’t he?).  I’ve often said that being an American and Christian is just about mutually exclusive - if not an oxymoron.

      what is humanity supposed to evolve into.  secular me first hedonism.  thats sick.

      Welcome to the US.  Enjoy your stay.

      @balungaloaf:

      wow, its like they ripped that off of christianity.  because thats christianities canon.  harm none.  but if we could stop a man from killing 50 children with a pistol by shooting him, any good person would.  it would be way worse to sit by and watch the children die.

      And what did Christianity rip off?  Every other religion that came before it.  Seriously - it was a brilliant strategy to convert the masses.  Just adopt their practices.

      and christians dont ever want to harm someone b/c they are a different religion.  only muslims(certain ones, a lot though) condone that, b/c its right in the koran.

      Plenty of Christians do, and did, kill for differences in faith.  Don’t kid yourself.

      the christian new testament says love and pray for your enemies.  and to turn the other cheek if it is just you being harmned.  no other religion comes close.

      You apparently aren’t up on religion…

      OK.

      So the first post of the cartoon was just like “huh?”

      The discussion of NEDM and burning cats, turns my stomach.

      It reminded me of the two Iraqi workers burned to death by a rocket about 20 yards from my workshop in Iraq.

      Not a pretty sight.

      I’m toying with the idea of creating a Wars of the Roses version of this to complement my Advanced Kingmaker, as I think the system can be adapted pretty well to this period and setting.

      Can’t find much info around on variants; IL’s files on BGG won’t load for me.

      The main difference would be a greater emphasis on killing off rival claimants, and less on “conquering” provinces - an anachronism in 15th century England, where landholdings were scattered in small manors.

      But overall the troop types match quite well:

      Daimo = Lord (I have 24 Lords; the Dukes and Earls from 1453-1461, divided between up to 8 players)
      Swordsman = Knight (1-4 in each Lord’s retinue(army))
      Bowman = Archers (1-4 per Lord)
      Spearman = Levy (1-8 in a retinue)
      Ronin = Mercenaries (recruited from abroad)
      Ninja = Murderer

      The gunners might be deleted, or perhaps replaced by artillery units, or the mercenaries may be ranged units (crossbows)

      Castle building is hardly relevant, as stone castles were almost obsolete, and could hardly be thown up in the space of a game turn, so perhaps each player starts with one home castle.

      Anyway I’ll get started on a map and see how it goes.

      I’ve heard somewhere about a game “Shogunmaker” which combines the two game t’other way round; I’d be interested if anyone has ever seen anything of this, but I believe it’s a home made game which turns up at conventions now and again.

      Hey guys, just wanted to introduce you to a game I’ve grown fond of.  Title is above.

      It’s a multiplayer online game that mixes RPG, FPS, and RTS elements.  There are two sides: beasts and humans.  Each side starts off with a basic setup, and they work on building their levels, collecting money and stone (through killing the other team or NPCs distributed among the map), building new structures and researching tech.  The humans get weapons, whereas the beasts get spells & abilities.  There are also items for each team, and everything is unique to each team.  There is a commander for each side that directs the teams and chooses officers, researches tech, chooses the buidlings to constructs, and buffs the other players.  The game really revolves around melee combat, which is fairly fast paced and intereting: the humans can block, and the beasts can leap/leap attack.  There are also multiple units to be researched and played, each with different stats and effectiveness, including the 3 story tall Behemoth beast unit (pic below - the player is using a stalker, second tier unit, where the Behemoth is standing face to face with a scavenger, the first tier beast unit).

      Here are a couple of links of video for in game play:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR_SkDnXn3k&NR (Best one to watch…multiplayer gameplay - including the behemoths!)

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UI2vAAfxL9Y (Game Trailer)

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtnADEH3it8 (Shows a variety of units and gameplay)

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mOfbqtoyu8&NR (Compares Savage to other RTS then shows some good gameplay)

      Just note that this game recently became free, but has been out for 3 years.  There are MANY good players, and newbies tend to have a frustrating time.  But staying around and learning the game is very rewarding, and very fun.  I also might mention that the gaming system allows for a lot functionality, including voting, private messaging, etc.

      Also, don’t minimize/Maximize the screen often if you can avoid it.

      I think this is what did it to me (maximizing).

      I havent heard anything about modern human footprints being found in million-year-old rock but let me guess at who found it, okay?  Was it a “creation-scientist”?  Or someone funded by the Discovery Institute or some other religiously-based “think tank”?  Probably  :roll:  Also,if evolution is a religion,then I am a devout believer!!   Darwin is the Son of God!!! Hallelujah!! Lets give him praise!! Thank you Darwin for saving me from the intellectual hell that is America!!

      Hmm, no idea how it works in Canada.  But the Food and Drug Administration - if it is working properly, and it probably isn’t because it’s a federal program and most federal programs don’t work well to begin with, being filled with crooks and sharlatans most of the time - in the United States is supposed to guarentee us that if it’s a Generic Drug then it is equivalent to the name brand, just as if Keebler says their Grasshopper Cookies have 40 calories per serving and a serving size is half a cookie, then it is an accurate report.

      But as I said, that’s how it’s supposed to work.  However, I am so anti-federal it isn’t even funny.  My Political Science and my Advanced History Courses are just making me even more anti-federal government as I study exactly what the fore-fathers of this nation said, did and wrote.

      Basically, until FDR, just about every US Politician was for weak central governments and strong state governments in so much as who actually weilded the power, not who had override authority.
