RE: Favorite Risk Continent
It has always been Australia. There probably are other strategies (and for the same reasons I choose Australia I feel S. America is not too far off), but that always seemed to me to be a solid target.

We are still being brainwashed with the Biblical “sex is bad, violence is good” agenda.
They must have their little soldiers to hand…

RE: Strange Laws
@CWO:
Here in Kentucky, the word is that it was illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket. The reason being is that this was a method used in stealing horses - the horse would follow you wherever you roamed, thus you didn’t “technically” steal the horse.
An imaginative but somewhat perplexing law. Given that Kentucky supposedly has a subtropical climate, how long would an ice cream cone survive outdoors without melting (especially when tucked into a warm back pocket)?
Still, I suppose that horse-related laws are no laughing matter in Kentucky, which has a long equestrian tradition.
At least in my waking years, there’s quite a swing in temperature: the state seems bipolar when it comes to weather. Typical horse racing times (fall, spring) can go either way, really. I wouldn’t put too much faith into an arbitrary line - you’d have to visit to see.

RE: Strange Laws
Seems like there are a lot of laws involving horses.

RE: You and the kids can soon sit on Satans lap and take pictures.
Does anyone here view either faith or atheism as a choice? (this is a serious question and not merely rhetorical)
I certainly view it has a choice. The greatest predictor of what religion a child will follow when it grows up is which one its parents followed. Even amongst the believers everyone has a different vision of what or who God is. That suggests to me it is most certainly a choice.
Most adherents of islam never got a choice.
It is the only faith they ever knew until adulthood, at which time fear keeps them from leaving.
Most who choose outside that faith are quickly and violently killed, reinforcing such fear.Well, besides pulling something straight out of your rear, you essentially agreed with what frim and I said.

RE: It so happens that I shook a hand that shook Hitler's!
(Ray mentioned his father was regular Wehrmacht, and fought the Canadians along the boot of Italy, Ray’s father in law was also in the same battle on the allied side!).
I found this to be the most interesting thing in the tale. Pretty cool.

RE: Pick Your NFL QB
Couldn’t agree more Yavid.
Random question here: if the ‘tuck rule’ play it was considered a forward pass and not a fumble. That was the ruling. Who was Brady’s intended receiver? I’ve seen the play 100 times and from what I can tell he was targeting his left foot with that pass. The nose of the football was pointing at his left foot when Woodson hit him and he lost control of the ball. If that’s the case where’s the intentional grounding penalty?
It was a correct ruling of a bad rule (which has since been deprecated). Since the tuck rule applied, it’s irrelevant who was being thrown to.
In my opinion (in hindsight), it’s pretty clearly a fumble. The tuck rule was the issue here, though.

RE: Should you be charged if you leave drugs out for kids to take and die?
I have heard that guns have done more to cause death/injury by accidents in the home than are incurred by actual home invasions.

RE: Pick Your NFL QB
@ABWorsham:
You own a NFL team. The team is down by 5 points with 90 yards between you and a championship. There is two minutes on the clock.
If you could have any NFL QB past or present who do you pick?
As much as it pains me to say it, Joe Montana.
I haven’t thought about it that much, but a cursory thought on it makes me think a lot of that was having the greatest wide receiver to play the game. I’m sure Montana was good, but it’s kind of clouded because of that.

RE: Pick Your NFL QB
Even though the Pats lots (and I’m not a fan by any means), they did a lot more with a lot less than any other team in the league.

RE: Should you be charged if you leave drugs out for kids to take and die?
Most times when a handgun or rifle is not secured and a kid plays with it and somebody dies it’s just a “sad accident” and no charges are laid.
Not surprised. But I thought the first rule of firearms is safety? Especially around kids.

RE: Should you be charged if you leave drugs out for kids to take and die?
I would think negligence would be the least of what comes out of it. Also, relinquishing any/all weapons the owner of the gun that was used, and also having all gun licenses revoked, potentially forever.

RE: You and the kids can soon sit on Satans lap and take pictures.
My wording might have been a little ambiguous. I meant, specifically, do people choose whether or not they believe in God?
Someone might choose to affiliate with a particular religion/denomination (or quit one) because of their beliefs. But did they make a choice to believe in God?
Yes, it is a choice to believe in God (that is highly influenced by your upbringing/environment). Why wouldn’t it? Before religion existed, or to those areas of the world that lack a singular deity belief system, they can’t choose what doesn’t exist.

RE: You and the kids can soon sit on Satans lap and take pictures.
Wow! There is a serious amount of God-hating going on here, and the cynicism is unbelievably thick…
I don’t believe in flying purple unicorns either, but that doesn’t mean I hate them.
You all ought to feel better since you found a nice little atheist support group nest and can vent all your frustrations against Christians who have pestered you so much.
Or should we take a clue from many fundamentalist and shoot up a church to vent instead with the things we disagree with?
Maybe you will be the ones sitting on Satan’s lap and your kids will be taking the pictures. Seems you all need the comfort of sitting on a lap
Or maybe not. I also don’t believe in Pascal’s wager, so the insult/threat really does nothing for me. I do find the projection rather funny, however.
Although if Satan is associated with vice…where do I sign up for the sexually liberated ladies, whiskey, and devil’s weed? :evil:

@rjpeters70:
@Young:
Except we’re expected to patronise religious folk because they have faith in things that aren’t real.
That makes them good people; they must be really devoted to believe in something that doesn’t exist.
I’ve got no problem with people who have faith, I believe in a creator myself… but I don’t go around telling people that my beliefs are right and theirs are wrong (which has become an epidemic among religious types these days).
Atheists, too…
Atheists don’t come to your door asking you to not believe.
You don’t find flyers on your car, house door, or mailbox advertising Atheist organizations or being a nuisance.
There aren’t centralized Atheist organizations hiding behind a tax shelter promoting its constituents interests (on top of what they do individually) to the detriment of others.
Atheists don’t put up billboards along the highway/interstate saying you are going to hell.
An Atheist that is arguing for their space and ability to opt out of religion is not jamming their beliefs down your throat, but exercising their 1st amendment rights that religious groups can’t seem to understand the concept of.Now, I don’t mean that this is universal, but as a whole this applies.

RE: You and the kids can soon sit on Satans lap and take pictures.
If Oklahoma allows a public display of the 10 commandments (publicly funded no less), then they really have to allow other religious persuasions to put up their stuff too. If you don’t want Satanists, Muslims, Jews, etc to have their say, then the Christians should keep their God to themselves too.
Not true. They are the most persecuted majority in this country! They get to make the rules, because they are God’s rules, and don’t you forget it.
Which is nonsense when Azathoth comes to devour us all anyway.
-
RE: You and the kids can soon sit on Satans lap and take pictures.
When you’re God, you get to make the rules :-)
God plays games. Sounds like every fickle girl I’ve been involved with.
At least I got laid with the latter, though. :evil:

RE: You and the kids can soon sit on Satans lap and take pictures.
God died for you in order to save you from His righteous judgment (He is merciful)
Wait, so we owe him a debt for doing a favor to save us from…him?
Sorry, he sounds like an asshole.
