I certainly hope Spurs win this year. Lat year was painful to watch.
@ABWorsham:
I want one more for the Spurs.
Same here. I think Tim may retire if that happens…I’ve also heard Popp may go soon as well.

I’ve been a Spurs fan for 20+ years, so it’s clear what I’m rooting for. Right now I hear the Thunder handling the Spurs at home handily - I figured so much at home they’d take one or two. With Ibaka back (a surprise), I’d guarantee it. But I’d like a rematch of last year in the Finals…
Wondering has anyone picked up on the books or show? Wouldn’t mind to discuss it.
I have read all 5 books long ago (probably within 2 months of posting this topic originally), and as of today am current on the show. I don’t watch much TV but it seems one of the top programs out there right now.
I wouldn’t call it unfair to expect some level of logic and believability.
Ok. How do you think the military would respond to an actual monster that was proven to be resistant to everything we threw at it? We have absolutely no history or point of reference because:
[it’s] a fantasy movie.
(to use your own words)
I think critiquing the lack of classic music, wooden acting, and being short on action (after all, that was the premise of the original movies) are all valid complaints.
But let’s be realistic here: it’s a movie about a giant monster (not real) tearing shizzy up and fighting other giant monsters (also not real). You’re gonna have to stretch some things to fit a giant monster into cinematic expectations these days (i.e. the old movie methods would not work).
Being highly critical of fictional movies seems like missing the point to me…
The “plot” of Phantom Menace is just one big hole.
It’s a setup for Vader’s story and the events of the original trilogy, with some kid fanfare and product tie-in opportunity. It’s not great, but it’s entertaining if you take it for what it is - it’s not like the original trilogy were perfect plot examples themselves.
And I should at least say that I was not going into the movie looking for bad things. If I gave that impression, I apologize. It’s just that I began to see certain things as I watched because they really stood out.
You don’t like it and listed your reasons and that’s fair. I like to see it thought out like that. On the flipside, it seems pretty deep for a movie that doesn’t take itself as seriously as you do.
Thank you Flashman for introducing me to Mr. Plinkett. Now all I think about as I watch new movies are potential plot holes or things that just are not reasonable.
I think that’s a bit unfair to the movie, IMO.
It’s a monster movie; if you’re going in looking for realism, you’re at the wrong movie.
@aequitas:
Found this article and thought it’s interesting?
Much of it seems right on track but some it seems doubtful. Japanese isn’t Hawai’i’s? Vietnamese for Texas? Maybe it’s right, it’s just not what I would have expected.
@aequitas:
What is Tagalog of kind of language?
A language found primarily in the Philipines.
Good to know since I’ll probably wind up seeing it. Also is it just me or is Ken Wantanabe one of the few go-to guys for lead Japanese roles in Hollywood?
Well, Toshiro Mifune is dead, so…
This is my favorite 45. Can anyone identify it?
It appears to be a gun (and not a record).
Maybe if Lee and the Confederates had AK-47s…
That one was good. I hear the rest got really off the rails.

We’ve had that discussion here haven’t we?
We have. I couldn’t search it at first, but tried again and found this thread:

I never read past the first one, but I did take a stab at the Aliens in WW2 one.
jermofoot - what else?
I finally got it to reset my password last week after trying for probably the 10th time. I hadn’t used Steam in probably 7+ years - it still had my Red Orchestra game that I bought on CD available for digital download.
I don’t normally peruse reddit, because I’ve always found the layout and nested replies to be absolutely irritating, but that’s a nice subreddit.
I particularly like this one:
Sharon Tate has always struck me as painfully beautiful. Such a shame her life ended too soon by a bunch of lunatics.
Maybe if Lee and the Confederates had AK-47s…
@Pink:
The Invasion 44 mod for ArmA II Operation Arrowhead is excellent
I wish I had the specs to run this and vanilla ArmA 2. But I live vicariously through the youtube videos of the ShackTac community: CHKilroy, Beaglerush, and Dslyecxi in particular.
“The EU has joined in”, what a joke. They get 40% of their natural gas from Russia, do you really think that they are going to commit economic suicide? Closing that trade would also kill Russia’s economy, but Putin is betting they will back down - and they will.
Russia is highly dependent upon exports of oil/gas in their international trade. They don’t have what’s considered a contemporary “manufacturing” economy, so as long as the EU can hold out, it’ll hurt Russia more in the long run. There are more sources of natural gas, so it’s not as if they’d go without.
How exactly did Kennedy and Reagan fail? There are no nukes in Cuba, and the USSR doesn’t exist.
Kennedy failed the Bay of Pigs and the USSR was going to fall no matter what Reagan did. They weren’t so much as failures as they were irrelevant.
How many times has Obamacare been amended w/o congress? The executive branch of government does not have the power to change/make laws. He may not be a dictator, but he has set the stage for a dictator.
So is he a capable - albeit, a dictator - leader or completely ineffectual? He can’t be both.
What he is doing is not what an executive order has the power to do. By your logic we should just name the president (whoever that is) king since he can do whatever he wants by executive order. Can a future president bypass congress with an executive order and outlaw abortion? How about busting the teacher’s union? Drop the legal drinking age?
He should have been impeached the second he said he refused to enforce the laws on the books because he disagreed with them. The fact of the matter is that he is the EXECUTIVE branch. If he wanted to legislate he should have stayed in the Senate.
If Executive Order is going to be the core of your argument, then you will lose. Literally every president has used Executive Orders to direct the Executive branch from Washing to Obama….except Harrison who lasted only a month.
You’d probably also find Obama having a hard time trying to overturn a Supreme Court decision (such as Roe v. Wade) or trying to direct an organization not under the Executive branch to do something.
Putin is evil, and you can even argue that he is stupid because he is trying to re-establish a form of government that fell apart quarter of a century ago because it was unsustainable. That being said, his evil/stupid antics makes him come across as a leader because he is decisive. I am not saying that is a good thing for the world at large, but when the hits the fan most people want to think the guy in charge knows what the hell he is doing.
So you support a leader of another country that makes reckless decisions and can operate in such a manner, than your own president - one that by nature of our nation and Constitution can’t do whatever he wants? Please tell me that you’re not one of the people that also complains he’s a dictator.
When it comes to BO… I think his only interest in foreign policy is to distract from how bad Obamacare is going. His biggest concern is the next election, not the future of America. The man is a great speaker, nobody can take that away from him. However words only go so far.
Obama has wisely not escalated things, going in guns blazing like some of armchair strategists and failed presidential candidates have pointed out. The EU has joined in, Russia basically screwed up their position in the UN Security Council, Russia’s economy is sinking, and I’m sure more to come.
I’d be interested in exactly how “Obamacare” is going badly. Badly for those who have tried multiple times to repeal it over the past 4 years? Badly for those that would like to see it fail? Badly because we didn’t make it to single payer? People parroting that it’s bad doesn’t make it bad. It’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to and has benefited - the ACA, that is - every US citizen. I’d be glad to give examples, but I’m afraid that thread would be shutdown.
Also, Obama isn’t up for reelection - 2 term limits. Not sure how that works in your opinion.
We have had 2 presidents who knew how to deal with the Russians. Kennedy who told them “screw you, get out of Cuba NOW!” and Reagan whose foreign policy for the USSR was “we win, you lose”.
Yes, Kennedy failed and Reagan unnecessarily extended the Cold War for no reason. Neither are good examples to draw from.
Ultimately I think all of America’s problems would be solved if we just harvested our own natural resources. The reason Russia has so much strength is because of oil and natural gas. If we dumped a ton of oil onto the world market the price of oil would drop like a rock. That would crash the economies of the people who hate us (not just Russia, lets give a shout out to Iran!)
Well, it’s an idea, I guess. Russia is more than a simple holder of resources. They are a nuclear power, they (seemingly) have a good relationship with China, sizable population and military, etc. I don’t think it’d work the way you think though.
I heard reports last night that there may be some debris near Australia
Should hear more about that anytime now, but that is ridiculously off course. I doubt that is it, but if it is, it raises even more questions. We’re talking hundreds of miles WSW of Australia…pretty much the opposite direction of the intended flight and only Antarctica conceivably en route (I suppose South S. America would be possible, but not very likely).
I’m guessing a hijacking that did not succeed. Search parties haven’t been looking in the right area - sounds like they need to be scour the Indian Ocean.
People can’t keep secrets. If it was successfully hijacked, someone would own up to it and demand a ransom. If it arrived where it needed to be, one of the passengers would step up. It’s gone, and not where they’ve been looking, hence it hasn’t been found yet.
No, the post on the forum is screwed up. It’s showing code and nothing else.
@Young:
Jim Parsons has won many many awards for his role as Sheldon, on a show that is approaching Sienfeld and Friends stature as staple pop culture television, so forgive me if I suggest that you live under a rock.
:-)
I know, in my senior year of college I was assigned to a team project with random people, and I got a very strange look from a girl on the team when she learned I’d never watched Seinfeld before (Spring 1997).
A few years later, I found myself watching quite a few episodes of Seinfeld and I learned why I got the queer look
My brother and Dad watched it quite a bit. I thought it was ok. Would have been better but I found the characters to be irritating.
As far as Friends go, any warm blooded male born in the 80s or so was subjected to the show if they knew what was good for them.
@Young:
What I find really interesting is when Leonard asks “are we playing individual or teams?” which suggests that these actors don’t know the game at all, or they have some kind of interesting house rule.
It suggests neither the writers, nor the actors know the game. My guess is props gets sent a lot of geek stuff to use to decorate the set and the script called for playing a game that was either individual or team and A&A was close enough.
I’d certainly accept that theory, but could it possibly be for comedic effect? An in-joke perhaps?
