      Not to mention that there were more than 10, and they can be found in 2 different locations in the Bible (with various differences): http://members.cox.net/deleyd/religion/tencommandments.html

      But if we want to discuss borrowing ideas, Jesus sounds damn near like Mithras.  A beautiful concept though…proselytizing through assimilation.  Has worked wonderfully.

      @Craig:

      @Krieghund:

      That’s interesting, Craig, but I don’t know that using the Gleemax on-line game’s behavior as an argument in a rules discussion is really valid at this time (even if it does support our position!).  There are a few things that it does that are not exactly “according to Hoyle” right now.  Hopefully, the bugs will be fixed soon.

      You are right that there are still many bugs in the game, but I don’t think that this topic is one of them.

      I agree that the on-line game is doing this particular thing correctly.  My point was that if you use the on-line game to support a rules argument, you set a precedent for others to do the same.  In future arguments, the on-line game may be incorrect in the way it handles the particular rule in question.

      For example, the on-line game was allowing land units on transports to be taken as casualties in naval battles.  (This may be fixed by now, but I don’t know for sure.)  Do you really want someone arguing that this is legal because the on-line game allows it?

      @Krieghund:

      I thought I saw a thread somewhere (BGG?) where the designer of the computer game talked about working with Larry on this project, so I think that this was taken care from the right source. :wink: :-D

      Actually, they said that they worked with Wizards of the Coast.  Larry wasn’t mentioned by name.  I’ve already pointed out a couple of problems in their “official” rules interpretations in that thread, one of which directly contradicts the FAQ.  If they’re all that “official”, why are they posted on BGG instead of the Avalon Hill site?

      @HolKann:

      Hmm, oh well, allright. It’s not LL, but it’s no big deal either.

      Yea, but you said you don’t normally use tech and I said I don’t normally use tech, so odds are, neither of us will need it and if we do, it’s for the coups de’gras and ending the game.

      If you wanna play at DAAK instead, set up a game.  It’s been like 7 years since I played (okay, that’s an exaggeration, but it’s been a long time; I’ve enlisted, gone through training, gone to Iraq, been blown up, gone through a medical discharge, and completed half a second degree and half a master’s degree since) at DAAK so just give me a run down on how it works.

      Otherwise, set up a thread in the “Play Games” section here.

      BTW, my User ID at DAAK is Jennifer. (Same as Flames of Europe and AAMC, btw.)

      LOL!!!

      AD&D ! I used to play and run that years ago !

      First edition was okay in its day, but ‘Feats’ RULE!!, 3rd edition all the way… (I’m not hearing a lot of good comments about 4.0 apparently its just being made to make money for wizards, they’ll stop making stuff for 3.5 , forcing gamers to shell out hundreds of pounds for new books, and its all apparently geared towards getting people to use the minatures… AD&D is now a business more than ever… not much room for roleplayers in it anymore ! :cry:)

      …sure the system falls apart at about 15th lvl+ and ‘Epic’ is completely unplayable, but at low to mid level its a lot of fun and your characters get tons of options., I could never go back to playing first… no way.

      @Mr:

      Kind of like one of the optional games in Mapview (Can’t remember the name of it… it’s where everyone starts out the same around the edge of a custom map with a large sea and island in the middle ?)

      It’s called the Crucible, by Imp Games.

      I’d be happy to assist in the creation of a module for this game.  In particular, if someone creates the images I could easily and quickly combine them into a module for any of these kinds of games.  (Plus, that way they look just how you all want them to)!  If there is interest, just PM me.

      @djensen:

      I think your problems are fixed.

      Yes, I have access to my messages in private messages again.

      However, I do not have access to karma or to uploading maps yet.  (Maps are more important then karma, obviously, as this is a gaming site and maps are directly related to the playability of the game!)

      Anyway, thanks for working on this.  I know you have a life outside of the boards and appreciate your time in dealing with this.

      ?

      Thank your for the private flame Jen.  I really enjoyed just reading that in my e-mail.

      In case you are not aware of it, NONE of the Mods can do a damn thing with bans, changing settings, or anything else.

      The problem you are facing is a CODING ERROR brought about by the requirement of the admins to change the coding of the site to allow for GD Banning.  We were never set up for that, only for PD banning.

      The reason you have a problem with your account is that you repeatedly, after being warned, continued to post flame bait in the General Discussion area.  That you posted flame bait was confirmed upon review by a Site Admin and they attempted to change the settings to have your current “disciplinary group” status ban you from posting in GD for a week.

      But we are sorry, when the site was set up 6 years ago, no one ever planned on having to deal with that type of BS in the General Discussion forum.  And when the Admins attempted to change the coding last night, they apparently did not get it completely right on the first attempt.

      The only reason you are having a problem is that you:
      1.  Flame Baited in GD
      2.  Repeated the flame bait after being told by a Site Mod to stop
      3.  Argued with a site mod on a public thread about their warning to you for flame bait posts in violation of forum rules.

      3 strikes, you got a 1 week ban.  Sorry that you did so in a place that no one ever thought it would be an issue… and that in an effort to adjust THE ENTIRE FREAKING WEBSITE to account for YOUR violations the coding was not done properly the first time in order to take limited action against you as originally intended.

      Perhaps, in the future, if you avoid flame bait posts, or if you listen when you are warned about continuing down a certain path of flame/flame bait posts… then perhaps you need not worry about your account problems in the future.

      And this thread is LOCKED.

      One last: Jen made the point that to almost win is the same as losing. Not true. For example, if I punch someone in the face repeatedly, and ALMOST knock him out, did I somehow lose the fight? Meade’s forces were defeated on the first day… Meade was punched repeatedly on the 2nd, but stayed on his feet… Lee thought he could land the knock-out blow with Pickett, and failed.

      That is basically Gettysberg, in one paragraph.

      Edit:

      Just to extend the metaphore further, Gettysberg was like a three-round fight:

      Round 1: Lee cautiously approaches Meade. Lee lands several devastating blows. Meade staggers. Lee continues pummelling Meade, but Meade is saved by the bell. Meade retreats to his corner and regroups.
      Lee wins the round.

      Round 2: Meade assumes a defensive stance. Lee pummels Meade the entire round, opening up several cuts. Meade reels, staggers, drops to the ground twice, but Lee misses several knockout blows. Meade counters and bloodies Lee.
      Lee narrowly wins the round on points.

      Round 3: Meade keeps his defensive stance, knows Lee will go for the knockout blow to the center. Lee begins the round with a weak attack that Meade easily counters. Lee and Meade circle each other warily. Lee, unaware he is ahead on points, throws one last desperate haymaker. Meade guards his center. Lee breaks his hand on Meade’s forearm. Meade, barely conscious, has a chance to finish the fight, but is too battered, bruised and bloodied to do anything but wait for the bell.

      Lee is unable to continue the fight. Meade wins a TKO.

      Edited cause I like boxing.

      @Cmdr:

      FDR also broke the tradition of American Presidents holding NO MORE then 2 terms as President prompting the American people to ratify an amendment restricting a persons ability to hold Presidential office to no more then 10 years. (2 if the President died and you were Vice President + 2 Terms of 4 years as elected President.)

      Meanwhile, Roosevelt was so incompetent at military activities, his board so full of leaks to the enemy and the press, that the US Army and US Navy banded together and determined that he would NOT be on the Need to Know list except for that information the President absolutely had to be made aware of. (The first of which was the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.)

      This ended in resulting in the US Army and US Navy running the wars in Europe and in the Pacific with very little input from the President and hence we every American knows who the generals and admirals were in World War II but not World War I, Korea, Vietnam, etc, when Presidents were in full control of armed services.

      Ok, I have to comment on these two things.

      FDR was not the first to run for more than 2 terms, but was the only to win and serve.  He was elected by the people for that, and a Republican Congress pushed the amendment ratified by state legislatures and not the people after FDR’s death.

      2)  I have no idea where you came up on that military shit and have never heard that ever before.  I think it’s bullshit straight from your ass.

      @Cmdr:

      I believe I have found an effective counter to the allied destroyer strategy.

      Need a new opponent to test it on though. :P  Bean’s in school! hehe.

      it is definitely a beatable strategy

      Let me redefine my statement, I have found an EFFECTIVE counter to the allied destroyer strategy.  I know there are ways to stop it by shooting yourself in the foot with the axis.  But I think I have a way to do it without selecting National Advantages specifically to beat it and not racing for technologies specifically to beat it (though they make it easier.)

      In other words, a very slight modification from the game as normally played.
