      Actually, I’m not so much worried about the sub living through pearl as I am the thought of loosing my precious fighters to defender shots.  That’s why I bring the Sub/Destroyer…I don’t actually count on them for the battle as much as I count on them to soak up 100% of return fire.

      It also means I don’t need my capital ships which keeps them safe from American retalliation.

      The worst invention in my opinion ever invented would be Video games. Talk about a waste of time and money for kids. About 99.5% of all video games may bring joy, but do nothing for the people plying them. They spend hundreds of hours playing them only to end up with NOTHING in the end. Nothing!

      Not to mention it is the universal agreement between these companies to continue upgrading as fast as they can to get new systems to the market. It’s like they can’t wait to make these machines obsolete and squeeze another 300-400 bucks outta some family.

      Oh, ……and I think Nuclear Weapons is a dumb invention also. I see many people already said this one. Good for all of you.  :-D

      Coulda sworn I amended that in later posts to not have a british invasion of North Africa on UK1 and a joining of the US/UK fleets in Sea Zone 8 instead.  If not, I meant too.  (Perhaps the filter kicked it out because of a perceived bad word?)

      Anyway, a UK build of 3 fighters with a consolidation of US and UK fleets in Sea Zone 8 cripple Germany’s ability to do anything more then take some more of Africa and hope to hold out against Russia.  On UK 3 you should be able to sink the Baltic Fleet and make life safe for Transports throughout the Atlantic Ocean.  (5 Fighters, 1 Bomber, 1 Battleship, 2 Transports should take out 2 submarines, 1 destroyer, 1 transport, 1 carrier and 2 fighters.)

      Oh, OK then.  Well, if you united at London, then German invasion of London is out.

      For the rest - not . . . quite.  Because once an Axis player sees that the Allies have massed air, and have any kind of serious navy near the Baltic fleet, you have a couple options.

      1.  If there is NOT a serious navy near the Baltic fleet (say it’s just a lone battleship and 2 transports), you just send the German air force to kill everything.  Lose a fighter or two.  It hurts, but you can rebuild a fighter or two that turn.

      2.  If there IS a serious navy near the Baltic fleet (US/UK fleet), you can attack with German air and the Baltic fleet as fodder.  The massed air is usually on London, where it can’t help defend.  You take a huge chunk out of the Allied combined fleet, and usually lose maybe one or two fighters, if there wasn’t an Allied AC there.  If there WAS an Allied AC there, you could then think about building more navy (probably not recommended in most games anyways, but ACs aren’t all that great on attack, so at least the Allies spent 32 IPC on 2 units with  a combined attack value of 2).

      But even after 2., there is usually some Allied fleet wandering around the Pacific that’s enough to deter attacks from the German air force.  So the transports are safe anyways; it’s just that the Allies lost a bit more navy.

      Page 18 of the 2nd Ed manual is explicit and emphasizes “ALL” attacking units in all caps.

      Russia is not in smolders after 3 turns, thats for sure.

      Japan takes forever to get to Moscow and Germany cannot afford to Hit Russia to hard to early or risk loosing there initial offensive units.

      Swtich our match will happen one day. I might bring out the real board for that match, unless you decide to install the battlemap in the time being

      Eh but 2 does not state it has to be a combat move. And since submarines threat hostile seazones as friendly the zone is effectively not a hostile zone and number 3 allows the movement. I would say Yes to question 3 based on this. Moving through a friendly seazone is not considered a combat move and the SZ not containing destroyers is effectively a friendly seazone for a sub.

      Well, I’d be willing to advocate both views. As I quoted submarines treat hostile sea zones as friendly, but that statement is under “combat movement phase”. Looking under “ncm phase” this is not repeated, in fact, it states that NO sea units may move through hostile sea zones EXCEPT in the case of enemy submerged submarines.

      Might be worth looking more into, but I assume mostly for theoretical interest.

      If you go to DAAK and hit the british flag it’ll change to English.  From there you have to create an account and then click on start a game.
      The only rules that are “house” rules would be that we use LHTR which you can download from DAAK or AAMC and review if you want.Â

      Ok once I get my 3rd game in the mail I’ll play ya. I consolidated 2 games into one for enough playing pieces. Our private little tournament is currently using that board for the near future. Annoying having to always convert figure pieces into chips… especially now that I have my “super sized” board to play on. Give me a week or so.

      In my past life as a rock and roll sound man I turned the lights off and was often a paid parent to musicians at least for the day they were on my stage.

      Guitar Techs those guys are parents, and the tour manager/stage manager guys. The guys that travel with the band. What I did was nothing compared to those guys.

      I often use the phrase “Did you look for it____” where blank is where they always forget that they left it. I’m not a parent but I’m pretty sure I have several of the requisite skills.

      Yea, but let’s not forget that in ADS 1 submarine defending against 5 destroyers and 20 battleships has a chance to win.  In No luck and Low Luck that submarines toast, even the particles left over after the shells are done falling on that submarine are damaged, they’ll never be the same again.  At best, that submarine has a small chance of actually killing the cook on the destroyer with an errant deck gun shot…but it’s a small chance.

      how bout this to slow down japan; r1      6inf, 1 fig in bury.
                                                      uk1    sub on sub in salomon(even fight, for 1 rnd then submerge)
                                                                trns to sz west of salomon (new guniea i think)
                                                                ac, des, fig to kill tranny off kwangtung( fighter land in bury)
                                                                tranny to block east indies fleet in boreo(or philipienes which ever im not in front of aboard)
                                                                2 figs west can
                                                                bom to sinkiang or west can(different ranges, both spots have advantages)

      the purchases will be dependent on need(uk might need a big stack of inf to prevent losing london)                     
                                    so jap now has slow down issues( icant wait to hear what is said about this one)

      @Jennifer:

      6 Transports = 48 IPCs + 15 IPCs for Industrial Complex.  Total: 63 IPCs
      12 Transports = 96 IPCs.  Total: 96 IPCs

      That is not an equivalent comparison.

      Norway is only 3 IPC, so it can only produce 3 units.  So 1.5 TRNs worth of units.

      US sets up 4x4, requiring 8 TRNs to get 8 divisions to Europe per round.  With a Norway IC, to still get 8 divisions requires 6 TRN plus Norway production (they do get 1 extra unit this way).

      But for UK… 3 IPC’s is about 15% of their mid-game income.  And as I said, that means eitehr keeping ARM in the mix for them to TRN, or allows 3 INF to be upgraded to ART, and thus add 6 points to their attack (an extra dead German every round).

      US only needs 64 IPC’s of TRN’s to send a full 8 divisions to Europe every round.  And if UK can keep their income to where they can fill their 4 TRNs, that is 16 divisions per turn.  And that is serious trouble for Germany.
