      Arming the populace is the same theory as building Nukes in the Cold War.  You don’t plan on using them, you just want the other side to know you COULD use them.

      Most prisoners when polled would say they would rather invade a home when no one is home.  Not to avoid capture, but rather because they are afraid the homeowners might have a gun!

      But you know me.  I think we should get rid of Racial Diversity Class and replace it with Firearm Safety and Marksmanship Class in public schools.

      He didn’t work out too well.

      Well considering the ape was probably smoking the same stuff he was, then that makes sense…

      If you rationalize that the mother sacrificing herself for her progeny is doing so because the pain of losing that progeny would be so great as to make life bad for her, then yes, it can be argued as an egoist act.

      Egoism is a theory that all of your actions are designed purely to give yourself the most happiness or avoid the most hardship for yourself.  We obey the law because we fear the pain associated with getting caught breaking it, etc.

      Way of the Dragon?

      Been many years since I saw the movie so I can’t recall, but I’ve heard (from anonymous source) that it was a training match/exercise kind of thing.

      I know Chuck has quite a bit of skill and the scene I’m talking about is choreographed with Bruce winning, but I can’t imagine Lee being bested, even in a friendly match.  Which seems odd anyway, I’d think you’d have to have a serious match in any event to declare anyone a “winner.”  Anything else would just be sparring and without clear takedowns or such.

      Presidents have claimed responsibility for everything good for all times.  If they could get away with it, they’d claim they made the sun rise every 24ish hours and that it was they that brought the rain.

      Realistically, it was the banks that lowered financing on autos, homes and later credit cards and it is THEIR bed they are now lying in.

      I, honestly, don’t feel sorry for them.  If they had just held to their OWN testing procedures instead of opening up the floodgates in hopes of making a quick buck and cashing out on their stocks for early retirement, they wouldn’t be in this mess.  And, you know what, not every bank and mortgage firm IS in this mess.

      @Magister:

      Playing cards for randomization (keeping Ace-6) maybe 2 or 4 packs shuffled together. Each card is just as random as a d6 (without knowing the other). All together keep the average guaranteed. Maybe shuffle them all back when few of them (say <10) remain in the deck to prevent “knowing” the remainder is better/worse if the history so far has been worse/better.

      It’s a lot easier to cheat with cards than dice.

      Not that a pristine fellow like myself would know of course.  I, um, heard it from, um, TV, yeah, that’s it.

      All though I loved Ender’s Game I found all the other books in that seires to be extrmely boring and I wasn’t able to finish any of them.

      On the other hand I loved Ender Shadow and Ive read all the Shadow books which I also love. I like how after battle school the Shadow books focus on Earth politics and what the future geopoliticals is like. Plus Enders Shadow is longer so it’s a better deal.

      Hey all,
          This is all you need to know about Jesus of Nazerith, the Messiah of the Jews, ( the chosen one, which in Greek is Christos).
      This is how it went down;
        About 2007 years ago a child was born to a woman named Mary.
        Jesus as a young man performed many miracals, (well documented by all the news services at the time) some of which even the Emperor of Rome heard about.
        He professed the “good news” that whoever believed what he had come into this world to teach us and followed the lifestyle that He professed, (that is, how to treat one another as outlined in the Beattitudes) then you shall know everlasting joy in the presence of your Creator.
        As was foretold in the ancient Hebrew Tora, (Bible) God sent his only Son to be the final sacrifice that would allow mankind to be removed from the laws of Moses allowing all mankind to be able to converse directly to Him through prayer. So, Jesus was beaten, humiliated, and then went willingly to the cross for crimes that he did not commit.
      After 3 days he rose from the grave and was seen by many! He proved that death of the physical body was not the end of our existence. That God had the power over death, and that all mankind had the right to obtain that gift.
      How is this accomplished?
      By faith, and by the rebirth of the Holy Spirit in you.
      Take heed, it takes a brave soul to make such a leap of faith. And the sacrifices one has to make are no less than a change of heart and of lifestyles. Too much for some sad to say.
      But for those that do, rest assurd a better future awaits them.

      Thanks, I feel better. :P  Sorry, just felt cheated, not because you didn’t finish the game, but because you are one of the better players on the site and I did corner you. (I know you felt pissy too because you didn’t expect my Russians and British to not only come on that strong but be successfully at it.  That’s not my normal game play. :P  America was a non-entity in that game.  All fleet, no fight!)

      Anyway, dunno why DAAK is even around anymore, honestly. :P

      Yea, I wanted to avoid minutia like dead zoning or layering transports with loaded and unloaded to hit naval then ground and ratios of units since those could be articles in and of themselves.

      The point here was to attempt to bring military experience, game experience and business experience together so that new players and veterans alike could find those points they already incorporate into their games and realize them for what they are, and find points they may have over looked and work on those points.

        So Jennifer, it is probibly more of a matter of trust in the server than a problem with your machine? I know just how you feel. It is hard sometimes to go outside our comfort zone. And something different is not always better. I for one have few complaints with Triple A, the ladder or how the program works, although today I did have it freeze on me during a roll, (had to restart my computer to get out of it). Nothing is perfect, right?

      Back to topic; I prefer LL for the mere fact that the regular dice are more often than not, unkind to me, causing much frustration. I know that I play a better game than my track record shows, and since I’ve begun playing LL it has been a lot less frustrating for me. I win more often, and even the games I’ve lost have not been one sided crushing defeats in 6 rounds. I will play AAR for fun, or to give a newbe a better chance to beat me, but not a serious game against a master Obewon Jedi AA player. I prefer to match wits, not the luck of the die rolls, for that, we can play Craps  :wink:

      @newpaintbrush:

      So are you saying that the Norway-Wrus-Ukr attack is bad for LL and for ADS for the SAME REASONS?  No, of course not.  See my last post.  Would you like to expound on the idea that what is good for ADS is good for LL and vice versa?  For I disagree.

      My contention is that what is good in LL is good in ADS HOWEVER what is good in ADS may not be good in LL.
      My point about the nor/wrus/ukr battle is that just b/c you may succeed in certian battles (either individual battles here and there or a few battles taken in the same turn) in LL way way way more in ADS does not make it a sound strategy for the entire game.  And I laid out just a couple of example where you could have high odds battles but it hurts you in the long run (the Moscow scenerio and the crazy ala move etc.)

      It is much easier to translate LL strats to ADS.

      I don’t think I said this triple would “inevitablely” fail in LL, I believe I said it “may” fail which in a way would confirm what the ADS odds told you in rd 1.
      I certainly think there could be a coerrelation between LL odds and ADS odds.

      Due to the nature of LL we know you can have a battle of a 100% success, which in ADS may be 90-95%.  I don’t think it is then unreasonable to think that multiple battles in LL where you have 80% success awould translate to maybe 65% in ADS.  Thus it isn’t unreasonable to think a LL battle with 60% success rate may then indeed be 40% in ADS (per your triple example).

      So when playing a game in ADS if you have a threshold to actually go through with most battles (say you would like a 60-70% chance to succeed in ADS) that does not mean you’d have 60-70 in LL, the LL odds would probably be much closer to 80.  So when you see a battle at 40% success in ADS it should probably tell you that you have maybe 60% or so in LL BUT those AREN’T great odds for LL, considering you can be much more efficient in your attacks in LL.

      60% odds are not that great for LL, considering the best LL players probably should win about 75-80% of their games.  Why lower your standards to 60%?  It just doesn’t make sense to me.  Maybe it is a good opening and causes enough damage to Germany, but I think it can leave Russia a bit too thin.

      And yes there are times where 1-1 is a good trade and even times where you come out on the low end but the battle can still be deemed a success, but I don’t think Russia 1 is that time esp since the Axis can usually make an Africa push and Japan can make early gains in Asia, and it still takes the UK/US a few turns to get their shuck going.

      Edit:

      I should also say that by strat, I mean a series of moves (or buys) that take place over several turns not something a player may do in only one move or one turn.

      The reason they are rated low, for me, is as follows:

      1)  Submarines are expensive
      2)  Submarines die to fighters without risk to the fighters
      3)  Submarines purchased take 4 full turns to break even (odds?)
      4)  The two submarines in SZ 5 die in every game I’ve ever seen.  It’s just a debate over when, not if they die.
      5)  Germany has no business buying up lots of submarines.
      6)  America is relatively unaffected by U-Boats.  Sure, they have less money, but honestly, -3 IPC from 42 IPC is not that much.

      Those are ranked in order of importance to me.

      That said, if you get them as a random bonus, it isn’t horrible.  Germany, of course, has no worthless advantages.
