Again, you are assuming a skill level for players.

If someone of sufficient skill was playing Germany against 3 novice allies, one would HOPE they play a game like this just to help even the odds a bit.

I would never play my “A” game against someone who’s a novice. But I also wouldn’t just let them win. A good comprimise is to try new strategies you wouldn’t dare play in a veteran game.

I’m sure it would work fine against an opponent of my skill, but you’d have to make almost no errors throughout the game to capitalize on my errors. (I routinely forget to unload transports, or protect a flank….it’s really quite frustrating.)

Though, I bet attacking the best players this way wouldn’t be the wisest of strategies.

Fighter could be nice. Give you a little more playing power in round one, less risk of loosing all and not having killed enough navy.

I’m just thinking if you stacked the deck in Asia you’d be better off. Or at the least stacking it in Europe. Anything to kill Mother Russia faster.

You can always secure Africa after you own Asia uncontested.

Personally, I can’t forsee a reason to put bid units in Africa. Unless someone gave me an incredible bid like 30+ IPCs… (of course, with that bid, I might go all tanks for a fast kill of USSR and putting them all in Manch…)

Women cheat, Wargame…I’m not even close to the top 15% of brains that play this game and look at this board, but I bet IRL I could cheat well enough to beat them sometimes. smile (Of course, it really hurts my game when my stupid mistakes arn’t caught and pounced on, HARD!)

So it’s a decent act to get your troops and tanks out of Africa and go full bore after the Ruskies. Loosing the 10 IPCs has to hurt though…even if you know you’ll just loose them eventually anyway.

No one ever bids tanks into Europe? Maybe, 21 IPCs, 3 tanks, 2 infantry? The extra 2 inf, will keep E. Euro from falling, and the extra 3 tanks might be a nice addition on your counter attack into Karelia G1.

Anyone ever use the Tranny to get the armor OUT of africa and into the European theater?

Africa’s a nice way to get money, but you definately arn’t going to hold it. Meanwhile, that extra tank might come in handy if it isnt destroyed.

Of course, you could always try to attack through the middle east and up into the Caucases. Any thoughts?

I’ve found that a little flirting can extinguish most opponent’s desire for ultimate and total destruction. wink

Fighters in Stalingrad may not be a totally bad idea even without a plan to attack the med fleet.

Say 1 fighter in Cauc + 5 inf should deter any assault on Stalingrad as a way around Karelia. In an RR game, Germany can bring 5 inf, 3 arm and a BB to Cauc and win without the need of any fighters. With a fighter defense, I’d really consider adding the bomber or a fighter to the equation though….of course, I’d probably just use the tranny to take Syria instead.

That’s the only reason I’d risk all my tanks in E Euro. At least I know I’ll have another round to build before an invasion. I don’t like it, but in an unRR, no bid game (ie playing by the printed rules) I could see the tactical advantage to taking Manch, E. Euro, Baltic Sea and the sea zone to the west of France with Russia followed by a Kwang attack by the UK.

I don’t loose, I get recruited (forcefully) by the other side.

Actually, to tell the truth, I prefer to loose a game - provided the winner tells me what I did wrong or what they did more right then I did.

Oh I wasn’t saying they needed the fleet (as I define as rebuilding if it is lost) what I was saying is it doesn’t hurt to have it. After all, I’m not going to argue with having a spare BB laying around with a tranny…you never know, you might want to re-invade Afr if you can take Moscow. I just don’t think it wise to move it out of Italy as it does make a decent defense against a southern incursion.

    • RE: Rockets!

If the UK lucks out and gets HB in turn one, you can basically call the game, regardless of what bid you put in. All you need is 2-3 HBs SBRing Berlin and Germany is reduced to an impoverished nation.

That’s one of the problems I have with the tech. The benefit, however, is it really does shorten the end game when you have some stubborn j*** **s with 500 infantry on their capital and you don’t want to spend the rest of your life counter building him just so you can get a victory when s/he won’t concede defeat. (and yes, that was an exageration, with 500 inf you could probably do quite a bit of dmg and save the game, but you all know what I mean.)

I think most tend to leave it in Italy as a land bridge to Afr and to dissuade a weak attempt at invading Italy by the allies.

If you move it, then you risk a quicker invasion. Of course, if you can get it to Japan to bolster their defenses, that might be worth something….

      Kitty’s are cute.

As for the battle of Okinawa…can’t really say anything for that…however there was a battle for the Phillipines that went on for two days back in High School…why we were so determined to own that plot of land, I’ll never know…all I know is we both dumped way too many resources into it to make it worth while.

In that case you’re running the risk that you dont accidentally kill that last fighter.

Well, the dog is just a last resort source of sustenance anyway, and the daughter I suppose has a point….she should have been included in the game so she wouldn’t want to go to the event either!

I don’t think you understand. You CANNOT stop a child from screwing up your day if they get it in their mind they are going too. Trust me, I have an 18-month old, he’ll get into anything, I don’t care if you staple gunned it to the clouds over head, he’ll figure out a way to get into it!
