      @Shin:

      LL is so BORING

      I can’t imagine why anyone would do it, other than to specifically playtest certain strategies.

      Low Luck isn’t really the same game, it’s a different game with similar rules.  (Kinda like partner chess and chess) This is just my opinion, but LL does open up different tactics that normally could not be done (because you MUST plan for over kill in critical battles during ADS but in LL you can calculate out the probabilities and rely on them virtually exclusively.)

      I, personally, have found LL is more accurate in predicting the results of ADS battles when engaging in naval battles.  This is just my, personal experience, and only because as a human, I can make assumptions when calculating my odds of success like “my opponent is going to want to leave carriers undamaged as long as possible because he has no valid landing areas for the fighters” and work out the odds round by round with LL that way.

      Likewise, LL is kinda fun when you KNOW that 2 infantry + 1 strategic bomber WILL beat 1 defending infantry AND take the territory 100% of the time.  Again, LL, in my opinion, isn’t the same game as ADS…in ADS that infantry may not only prevent you from taking the territory, but also kill both your attacking infantry!  This allows you to game the system a little, if you want to ensure a target dies, just ensure you have the required number of hits going in (sink a BB in 1 round, send 4 fighters!  etcetera.)

      Again, I have had a lot of fun in LL and ADS, I prefer ADS, but LL certainly has its place!

      @Krieghund:

      AAA are land units, therefore they get to fire if air units attack them.

      Thanks for the clarification.

      Are the mod rules consolidated as an opening post in a thread somewhere…if so, and it isn’t already stickied, we can get that done for you so it is easily located by those willing to try it.

      @bmnielsen:

      Need a rules clarification.

      Normally you are allowed to send a fighter on a suicide mission if there is a theoretical chance of a carrier being able to pick it up, no matter how small that chance is.

      Does this become illegal in a low luck game, since the probability of the carrier making it becomes 0? Or do we consider the legality of moves to be the same as in the normal game, and the low luck aspect only applies to the dice rolling?

      Thanks :)

      Low luck does not effect what moves are legal or not.  You still, in theory, could get the carrier to the fighter and still must make the move to retrieve the fighter on the off chance it does survive.

      I wouldn’t have a problem with allowing Japan to replenish their Kamikazes at a cost of 5 IPC each.  That’s a little cheaper for a submarine but unlike a submarine, the Kamikaze is lost after use so it balances out, in my opinion.

      Of course, if Japan is down to buying Kamikazes instead of actual ships, odds are good they are pretty desperate anyway, so it would definitely be a situational thing.

      @Shin:

      No, they do not.  Those only happen if Japan declares on Russia.  It’s an incentive to keep them off each other’s backs.

      What does Japan get for not declaring war on Russia?

      @Gamerman01:

      @Soulblighter:

      Something worth considering… rather then just adjusting the improved NO’s is adding 1-2 units to western germany. 1 infantry and 1 artillery will make france + normandy slightly easier. It will also make sealion slightly easier.

      Make kamikaze tokens something you can buy with the Japanese. 1-2 ipcs for a token.

      Those are good ideas I think

      1 to 2 IPC a token seems too cheap to me.  Not saying it is or isn’t, but my knee-jerk reaction is “frakkin hell, I can lose a carrier and 2 planes to 2 to 4 IPC!?!?”  IMHO, 4 to 6 IPC seems better given the value.  10 Kamikazes can do serious damage to an attacking fleet and 20 IPC for 10 tokens would be so worth it for Japan (vs 2 defending fighters?  Heck yea!)

      I generally hit Normandy with Germany with 2 inf, 1 art, 1 arm anyway.

      But if I want to activate Vichy, I would have to redetail 4 or 5 aircraft away from the British to ensure to clear S. France in one shot and minimize risk of defensive fire hitting multiple plans.  (Not negate the risk, minimize it.)

      @MrRoboto:

      yeah, I just wanted to protest.

      As far as I can see it, Vichy is awesome for axis. Getting 2 inf for free in north africa alone is great.

      Yet nobody has bothered going for it so far. Everybody I have seen so far has gone for z110 and z111.

      But you still have to clear S. France without taking the territory, right?  So you are risking a fighter or two for a couple infantry in Africa.  Or am I missing something (which is possible.)

      @Shin:

      I checked, and taking Sardinia doesn’t trigger the boost in TripleA, at least.

      I’ve started a few games (as Allies, so far), but still have no idea how the VIchy thing affects the game since my opponents always attack Southern France.  Seems like the Axis really have to go out of their way to make it happen.

      I was thinking the same. To ensure S. France doesn’t fall, Germany would have to dedicate planes to clearing it (unless you wanted to risk Italian planes) without any ground forces.  Seems like the risk outweighs the reward…but that’s just my untested, unplayed, opinion!

      @Shin:

      3 PUs for each originally German, Italian, or Pro-Axis neutral territory that Russia controls in mainland Europe. (This modifies Russia’s “Spread of Communism” objective).

      I just want to double check, this would not include any of the islands like Sardinia, right?

      That’s how I read it, so if you’re wrong, we both are!  :evil:

      I’ve oft thought that bids fluctuate as tactics and strategies evolve.  Eventually someone is going to discover a method to take Berlin round 1, then bids will be 20 IPC for Axis, then someone else will figure out how to take Moscow in 3 rounds and bids will go 32 IPC for Allies… (gross exaggerations to avoid having to discuss how to take Berlin round 1 or Moscow round 3…)

      So USA finally loses that stupid 10 IPC for not being invaded NO?  The one that was almost never lost?

      Was there any changes to initial placement, or is the hope (experience) that NO changes alone balances the game?  (I havnt played it, downloaded it, just havnt actually looked in depth yet and it’s 2338 hours here, so not gunna look at it tonight.)

    • Merry Christmas

      Every year, about this time, I post one of my favorite poems.  I have heard many sources give differing accounts of when and how his poem was written.  My favorite account is that it was written by a United States Marine Corps soldier during World War II in the Pacific, but I have also heard it was written by a priest in the U.S.M.C. as well.  Either way, this year, I am including a link to a YouTube Video so you can listen to it instead of just reading it (it is set to the melody of Silent Night.)

      A Soldier’s Silent Night

      TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
      IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.
      I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
      AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

      I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
      NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.
      NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
      ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

      WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
      A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
      FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
      I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

      THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE,
      CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
      THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
      NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

      WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?
      CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
      I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
      OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

      SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
      AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
      THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
      BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

      I COULDN’T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
      ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
      THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
      I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY;

      THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
      “SANTA DON’T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
      I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,
      MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.”

      THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
      I COULDN’T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
      I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL
      AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.

      I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
      THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
      THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
      WHISPERED, “CARRY ON SANTA, IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.”

      ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
      “MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.”

      @mike48484:

      actually you should thank the Russians. and the 20 million men they lost.

      With out that it probably didn’t matter what America did.

      How about we all agree to be thankful that the war was resolved in favor of the allies (our side, regardless of Canadian, Indian, American, French, British, Russian, etc. you are.)  =^_^=
