    • RE: Japanzilla

When playing Global or Pacific 1940, I typically use the British to try and stop the Japanese on the Asian mainland while using Anzac and the US to confront the Japanese fleet and push them out of the Pacific.

It sounds like the guy that you are playing against is using an all out “India Crush” strategy to knock you out Calcutta in the early game.  While it can be hard to defend against a really determined Japanese player, there are things that you can do to prevent this or at the very least make the Japanese losses severe.

      1. Build Troops - This will give you the best defense value for your money.  If he is hitting you on turn 4, then you can have about 25 units (approx) on India when he attacks

      2. Buy an AA gun on the first turn - While some people may disagree with me on this buy, I think that it is a must for the UK Pacific.  If the Japanese are bringing in 15 planes or so to knock out India, chance are you will destroy at least 2 maby 3 planes.  Even if they do not go for the India crush, I say that having that AA gun in your main stack is huge for offsetting the Japanese air advantage.

      3. Block with your fleet - Send out the transport to take what DEI islands that you can early on, but save the other ships to block the Japanese navy from sending transports into India (which I assume they are doing).  If you can save yourself just one turn this way, that is another 7-8 inf that you can put in India.

    • RE: Alpha +1 Setup for pac40?

I am going to try playing Pacific 1940 with the Alpha+1 setup in a few weeks… just looking at the new map positions and NO’s it really does look more balanced for the allies in the theater.  When it comes to the US production bonus, I assume you keep the out of the box rules for this… US starts w 17 ipc’s and then jumps to 57 ipc’s upon being drawn into the war/ turn 3.

I will be interested to see how things balance out with Pacific as a stand alone with Alpha +1.

    • RE: Game with newbies

I recently set up a gaming group in my home town, and over the course of the past few weeks I have had a couple of new people wanting to join in the gaming sessions.  Most of the other people attending are veterans, so I have been asking myself the same questions.

I think that we are either going to play a game of 1942 instead of global or play just Europe 1940.  Spring 1942 would probably be the better choice as this is the more fundamental A&A game for learning the core rules.

    • US Production - Alpha +1

I have played the 1940 individual theater games, and will soon be getting a group together for a game of the 1940 Global.  I would like to use the Alpha+1 rules right off, as the majority of the feedback on this board seems to point to a more balanced game.

I was reading the Alpha +1 rules on the Harris Game site, and I just wanted to clarify the US Starting IPC’s

      • In global the US starting production is 52 IPC’s
      • Starting after turn 3/ or if the US has been declared war on, US gets additional +15 points for controlling the continental US

So basically the US war time economy in Global is 67 (excluding any other National Objectives)?

    • RE: Aircraft Range Markers - for all games

Very nice!  I will use these the next time I play.  Not to get off topic in the Europe 1940 forum, but this will be GREAT for Pacific 1940 (tons of plans flying over sea zones)… in my last game of Pacific, keeping up with movement and which plane came from where was one of the biggest obstacles.

      Thanks again for posting this.

    • RE: About to buy AA Europe 1940.

I appreciate the feedback, as I am about to buy Europe 1940.  I currently own Pacific 1940, and have really enjoyed that so far… from all of the feedback on the forums, it sounds like Europe and especially global are even better!

    • RE: TRIPLEA FOR AAP40/AAE40/AAG40

Yeah, I tried playing the 1940 Pacific on Triple A, but it is still a long way off… with no Air Bases, Naval Basis, or national objectives, it is just not the same.
