Very competitive game and an interesting position. I am curious to see how this continues. Axis have no clear winning path yet, but so far everything is holding together and Allies will have a hard time making progress.

Ok, got you. Thanks for the positive feedback then, much appreciated.
I think your basics are definitely solid, but you miss to show the necessary level of dedication playing both sides. In this game, both Germans and Japanese didn’t intend to make any major breakthrough, neither to Egypt, nor India or Moscow and even the Eastern Russian territories were untouched for a long time.
In the previous games, you missed an opportunity to squeeze my German stack at Caucasus by moving your Russian stack to Rostov and make a full stack with UK at NWP.
Although my Germans would have escaped as they were all fast movers, you would have seized Caucasus. Not sure if this would have been enough, but once I realized I can hold Caucasus easily, I knew the clock was ticking in my favor.
With your power move, I would have had further work to achieve this.

And btw: DON’T put your boats in 114 after G1 but in 113. In this case, UK would not have been in the position to make such a greedy move in UK1, as a G2 sea lion with 1 TT would be on the table in that case, plus a G3 sealion would have become a bigger threat, too.

Well. Shortens the misery. I think Allies were ok if I had prepared for that. But like this, one deadly blow decides the game. Good way to lose the first time after 2.5 years :-)

The british fleet is getting butchered. Another 130ish TUV that are lost with close to zero losses for the Axis and from there the Axis are ahead in TUV and please do not forget that the choke in Italy will be released, too.

Japan will just hold still at 70 income and maybe invade Easter Russia soon, but US cannot get active in the Pacific too. Neither could Japan, a stalemate is what I planned for while choking the Germans over time, or choke Japan with the med fleet but invest Atlantic only wih the US from there.
But as played, it will just be an uphill battle from here and the few extra bucks from the neutrals won’t help.

The game was tense even with the additional 200 TUV the Allies had. I still believe, if Allies manage to hold both, Egypt and London, I would have had the upper hand.
But achieving this was tough. Germany would at least have had a shot at Egypt and MARTI could have been a game decider.

And re blunder: Oh yes, this was a serious blunder. I did not account at all at any time during my turn that a neutral crush would alter the ranges from the planes. I just did not have a neutral crush in any of my games for the last 2 years I guess. I just forgot about this option.

That is totally fine and I agree, there is still plenty for the Axis to fight for. The axis advantage was big before Berlin fell.

      Happy fighting then.

      a) trulpen - JDOW 0-1

      b) trulpen - JDOW 0-1

I would like to emphasize that these have been everything but clear wins by me.
My general goal with the Allies is to outplay the Axis strategically and make the giant fall using the strategy of 1000 needle sticks. This did not work in both games and the giant did not stumble and Allies were in the corner in both games.
All I did is showing some qualities to be a slippy eel when cornered, supported by a mental slip (game 1) and a semi-blunder (game 2) from trulpen.
This allowed the Allies to take Berlin twice in game 1 which turned the tide in favor of the Allies.
In game 2, the Allies got a risky shot to take Tokyo. MARTI definitely gave me some horrible dicing early in the games but it showed merci in this all or nothing battle.
I had 75% on Tokyo and I did not just win, I won so good that Japan never had a chance to take Tokyo back. Although Germans were a juggernaut at this time, there wasn’t a chance to secure 9 CV with Japan never earning a single buck for the rest of the game.

Trulpen made an, imo, silly statement in one of the game thread, saying “he will only play me again without giving my Allies a bid”. I think I should be the one asking for a higher bid as strategically, it was my Allies that were pushed into the corner twice and I have to rethink my strategy against opponents that play Axis very controlled and risk-averse at modest pace without rushing to force matters quickly.

Boy, this game certainly sets a new record in terms of the pain level the French caused in the first rounds.

These crazy motherf***ers hit 9/10 in defense. What kind of steroids did you give them?

Yeah, you need to make something happen. But b4 resigning you may make a bold move or throw out a bait hoping for bad dice or so.

Maybe there is nothing you could do from here.
Regarding your question, what you may have done wrong:

      • No chance to put better defense at Egypt?
      • Re Europe. US should always have a bomber in UK to threaten deactivating the AB. Without the AB, UK could kill the German fleet.

Tiny details. At this level, they may decide the game. Is Egypt a tough to crack fortress or can the Germans just take it “en passant” while choking the Russians?
The typical usual dynamic is that the Germans have to give Russia lots of freedom if they go hard for Egypt.

But as said, if Axis is played well, Allies have a hard time.

How should africa and MA have been boosted?

I am not a big fan of a Persia IC as you build it for the Germans. I utilize the SA factory as good as I can. I saw that Oysteilo built quite some units there, so there are the following tools at your disposal:

      • Kill the Italians in Africa with the India TT in UK1
      • Build even a bit more in SA
      • You may build the Persia IC, lose it later but get about 9 extra inf out there
      • Build more US figs
      • And last but not least, there is the big move, that often is required to hold egypt: Swing the 110 fleet over and bring reinforcements from UK

The last move should make an attack at Egypt very unattractive or make it even inpenetrable.
From there, the Allies lifeline depends on creating some counterpressure on the Axis. Egypt may be safe but without pressure from 110, Axis can storm Moscow

At this point, it is all about the details on how many units you have, and if you could steal some tempo from the Axis etc.

I checked the history and, on a superficial level, I was wondering about the following:

      1. Your fleet sat too long in 98. Preferably the Allies defend Egypt against Italy even without moven the fleet at all and to it with air only (killing the Italians South of Egypt UK1 helps)
      2. Tiny detail, but inf+aa could have been brought to Egypt in Uk2 (Defend Gib somehow, but these 2 units belong to Egypt imo)
      3. I do not understand why you did not murder the Italian fleet in Uk4. Even against the scramble you had overwhelming odds and I would not hesitate a second if I could kill 4!!! German planes against the scramble.

All together the Germans were too long left alone without any counter pressure which allowed them to achieve both, keep Russians choked AND bring enough mech to the middle east.
As said, in the end, if is not just these single things, but the some of all little things that change the big picture.

But in the end, I have to say: Axis is so strong: If I played myself, I may not stand a chance against my own Axis.

I think re 97. the key is that you would kill german planes and that an airstrike would cost even more. I guess shutting down italy for good may have been worth it.
