I don’t see why not as long as you’re not exceeding the (3) round limit. The rules allow you to pair it with another unit on the next round if the unit it was paired with is destroyed. I think it’d fall into the same category.

@trig IIRC the wording is “Republican Spain aligns to the USSR if attacked” which can be a bit linguistically confusing. I agree that Republican Span is the one that needs to be attacked.

If you read the top of page 11 you will see there is a new rule for V3 where you cannot combat move through a canal as you proposed. The example they give is exactly what you were talking about. You can still choose to do it the old way but either way that is one of the things you should have all of the players to agree to before the game begins. We always play it the new way.

@jbuckbuddy, from Rule 0.5, as stated above: “Major Powers that are not at war with each other may freely share sea zones and do not affect each other.”

@jbuckbuddy China at War allows USSR to invade Sinkang in July of 37 but OOB must be July of 1939 but I warn you about doing this because this will cause the Warlords to align to KMT (or whatever the rule book depending on expansions state) and put you at war with KMT which means USSR lost it’s neutrality to the Allies and might cause the Allies to declare war on you.

@jbuckbuddy I have your answer and I am certain of it:

In OOB the nationalists and republicans while at war do not align with any country ever. You can only interfere / intervene in the civil war in the ways flat are specified in the rule book. No outside country is allowed to declare war on a Spain that is fighting an internal conflict.

Once the war is won and conditions are met either the nationalists victor or republicans victor will align with their respective major power.
A neutral Spain can be declared war on by outside Powers. Just read the rules for it near the end of the rule book.

In the basics SCW expansion the big fault of the expansion is that the sides will align to their respective major powers prior to the end of the civil war if the Soviets and Germans go to war.

Admiral editor. Expansion is similar to OOB rules.

This isn’t exactly made clear, but I would go with the old A&A rule of, “if it has a land border, it isn’t and island.” Otherwise, what is an island. Is the UK? Is Australia? It goes on and on.

Australia is a continent, not an island. The UK and Japan are listed as island nations, and I would play them as exceptions to the special fortification zones, but I don’t see that in the rules. The New Guineas, Borneo, Sarawak, Ireland, etc., would qualify as islands, and special fortification zones, in my opinion.

@jbuckbuddy You should always use ANZAC under a different color than UK and the reason why I say this is because if ANZAC and UK attack, as long as an ANZAC unit is present, you can give that territory to ANZAC instead of UK if you wish to of course.

Plus you should keep the colors different so you can see force projection by ANZAC. If ANZAC surrenders before UK, you need to know what units are going off the board.

Turkey when active in this expansion is a player nation into itself and thus only surrenders if it’s capital is conquered and Turkey can’t liberate it on their turn.

Oh yeah, I agree with both of you, @insaneHoshi and @JbuckBuddy, I think that is the proper interpretation of the rule. I was merely pointing out that the way it’s written leaves this question completely justifiable to have been made, as that’s how the rule reads as written!

      @jbuckbuddy

My opponent seems to think this includes Bengal and Burma but I wanted to be sure as I always thought of Burma as a separate country from India, however at the time it was a province of IndIa I believe. Any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks.

This doesn’t really add anything to the rule set, but just a bit of background. Burma was part of the Indian territory until 1937, I believe. Then Burma became it’s own colony under British rule and separate of India.

So I’d actually always assumed the Gurkha rule did not include Burma, so I’m happy this question was asked and answered since I was wrong in that assumption!

@jbuckbuddy I think that’s probably the most accurate interpretation. I was going off that one quoted text I had in my first comment, but even that wasn’t a guarantee. I think that’s how I’ll play it too, unless an official ruling comes along stating otherwise.

@trig said in Border Forts getting flanked:

If you look, you can fortify Smolensk, and then build a line across the Northern section. The south is not the best, but it can work. Other short fronts include bengal or burma, or a defense of France in Normandy or Northern Loraine.

You are evil and I never want to play you, Trig! So clever!

@insanehoshi said in Alternative to AA gun fire being modified:

@jbuckbuddy said in Alternative to AA gun fire being modified:

so if AA guns were attacking wouldn’t they be affected?

Because when shooting planes, the AA gun doesn’t explicitly shoot at its attack/defence value.

The rule for an AA Gun is “An attacking or defending AA Artillery rolls one die for each opposing aircraft up to a maximum of three rolls and hits on a roll of “3” or less.” Note that here it doesn’t say “Gets three attacks” or " rolls at its attack value"; Its AA shots are explicitly at 3.

This means that its attack and defence value is completely incidental from its special AA ability.

Whether this is the correct interpretation of the designers intentions is up in the air, but RAW AA guns’ aa shots are not affected by terrain. However their attack and defence values would still be affected, so if there were no aircraft and they were going into mountains, they would get one shot @ 2.

Persuasive argument, Insane Hoshi! I agree this would mean AA Artillery is not affected by terrain, cities, fortifications, etc. However, you go on to say that AA Art’s attack and defense values “would still be affected.” If you read further in the description you quote, it says, “AA Artillery fire on the first round of combat only.”

My understanding is that AA Art fires specifically at aircraft.
They only fire on the first round of combat.
They get one die roll for each opposing aircraft up to a max of 3.
They hit on a “3” or less and aren’t affected by modifiers.
They do not get to roll against other units.

@insanehoshi Which is why you 1:1 pair tank destroyers per enemy tank. Trust me, do this against players who are tank heavy and you’ll find out how pointless tanks start to become.

For Wartime Economy, the v3 rules specify that « Each turn during its Place Units and Collect Income Phase, the nation rolls 2D6… » and « British Commonwealth may divide the money each turn… » (rule 7.8 & Global War Tech Sheet v3.0).

« Each turn » must mean the same in both sentences, so if you do it by the book, you would divide it between Commonwealth members during that same phase, not set it aside as a pool for the next purchasing phase.

However, in a friendly game, I would probably let the Commonwealth player redistribute the Wartime Economy as needed for purchases to speed things along.
