    • RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?

      @otahere34:

      @Alsch91:

      No aircraft can support that, as it takes 4 movement points to get from SZ 33 to New South Wales.  They cannot land from there.

      I have a house rule that aircraft on carriers can launch after the carrier makes its movement, cause in real life, if there were carriers in Japan with planes, the planes didn’t take off and attack midway from there, they took off once the carriers got to midway. Thats just one of my house rules.

      How exactly can you discuss balance and strategy when you change the rules?

      I have a house rule, when I play the US, I get the Nimitz in 1941. Now let me argue that the OOB setup is not imbalanced in favor of Japan.  :?

      And to think, if problems could be identified and solved by majority vote, democracies might actually function competently.

      @SSPanther:

      It seems like there is a general consensus …

      Actually, no, there isn’t.

    • RE: Noob in need of help about IPC's

      You get whatever your total is at the end of your turn.

      So the resulting IPCs you will have (and can spend in the next turn) is the total IPC for the territories you own, plus any bonus IPCs for National Objectives you qualify for, plus any leftover IPCs that you did not spend, minus any IPCs lost due to convoy raiding.

      The “starting IPCs” is simply the amount you will get to spend on the first turn.

      @Hobbes:

      Oh, and submarines are not considered warships.

      I’m not so sure about this. For this NO, does a submarine prevent it?

    • RE: Cruisers

      So lets see, because some people buy them that means they must be useful. So, if you see people jumping off a bridge, you follow? Must be a good idea.

      How about this? We have a unit called a Battlecruiser. It will cost 12 points, hits on a 3, takes one hit, and can bombard. I bet you guys will think this is better than a cruiser.

      This stuff just isn’t that difficult. I’d hate to see you guys try to analyze something complicated.

      So hey, leave the cruiser as is. Feel free to buy as many as you want. Just makes it easier for the rest of us to win.

    • RE: NEED AXIS STRATS ALPHA 2
      • Don’t mess with Sea Lion unless England leaves them self wide open
      • Japan needs to pressure or kill India as soon as possible to prevent it from helping Russia
      • Roll well

      Alternately, try something completely different, like an all-out Sea Lion followed by a full assault on the US by Japan and Germany.

      @gamerman01:

      I’m on top of the AA50 league standings.  I play to have fun and to win, and I do both all the time.

      Guess that league isn’t that competitive then.

      Funny, I figured there would be a discussion as to how to best adjust cruisers to make them more useful. You could reduce the cost, improve their ability, etc. Never really though anyone would argue that they are fine since ITS SO BLATANTLY OBVIOUS!

      But then again, all I have to do is watch C-SPAN to see people arguing against the obvious. Then a whole bunch of people vote for these idiots.

    • RE: Cruisers

      Its so nice you are playing the game for fun and not to actually win.

      The whole point to having the cruisers in the game is that the additional variations in the fleet makes things more interesting. But when there’s no point in buying a unit 99% of the time, there is something wrong. So if cruisers are adjusted so it makes sense to buy them at times, then it adds variation to the game and makes the game more fun without having to play stupid.

      Oh yeah, and that 1% chance is probably an over-estimate.

      It’s way easier to roll 1,2 or 3 than 1 or 2.

      Just not getting it, are we?

      Please reread what Alsch91 wrote. No matter how you group them, DDs are better.
