I’d say if the players are experienced, the Allies are easier to win with. But I think the Allies are harder to play for novice players. Getting the USA logistics up and running can be daunting for new players. Plus it takes a lot more inter-country cooperation and coordination to run a successful war as the Allies.

Edit - I see you just edited your original post to list 4 fighters after UK2 now. Maybe that is the reason for 59% vs. 70%? You (Hobbes) calculated based on 4 UK fighters while Mallery29 did his numbers based on 2 UK fighters?

Don’t hit egypt till G2? Why would you wait? That is money, just like in the old revised it always goes on round 1.
Some are waiting because, unlike the old revised, there are NO German fighters in range of Egypt on G1. In old revised Germany had one or two fighters in range, depending on if the Ukraine fighter survived R1. (Which is one reason why in old revised I made it a point to hit Ukraine on R1. This is a different game though).
Also I beleive the UK has one more unit in Egypt in this version as compared to old Revised.
So the BEST attack Germany can do to Egypt on G1 is 2 Inf 2 Tanks 1 Bomber : 5 count, 12 oPunch
Vs. 1 Inf 1 Art 1 Tank 1 Figher: 4 count, 11 dPunch
Yes Germany is favored but it is not a lock to win, so some players are waiting until G2 to hit Egypt hoping to smash it with overwhelming force, or intimidating UK into abandoning it UK1. Though it is sounding like a UK1 pre-emptive strike on Libya may throw a monkey wrench into that plan.

OK, so you are busy flying a Russian fighter down to Egypt to protect it, losing it’s offensive power for R1 and probably R2. This despite the fact that it seems like many posters are not even attacking Egypt until G2 anyway.
So in Ukraine you have all of Caucasus (3 Inf, Art, Arm) + the Kar Fighter vs. 3 Inf, Arm, Fighter.
6 Count, 12 oPunch vs. 5 Count 13 dPunch. That is a dicey battle, though you would be favored. Do you add any armor from Moscow to increase your odds?
And keep in mind that by expending so much offense in Ukraine you may take more casualties in West Russia.
I agree that Russia needs to be agressive. I’m just not sure that you cross the line from agressive to reckless.

So you are not attacking anything with one of your Russian fighters on R1? Because the only way I can see that a starting fighter can get to Egypt is Russia->Caucasus->Persia->Trans Jordan->Egypt
And that fighter probably isn’t attacking anything on R2 either, unless Germany takes Caucasus on G1 or you attack the German med BB (depending on where the BB is on R2).
So you are attacking Ukraine on R1 with only one fighter? Seems risky.
If you want to use Russian fighters to help out in defense of an ally wouldn’t it be better to land one in China, along with the Kaz. Inf, to protect the Flying Tigers? The fighter that starts in Moscow can attack West Russia and land in China on R1, and be in position to attack Caucasus or Ukraine/West Russia on R2, depending on what happened on G1.
Or, if the Ukraine fighter survived try to kill Egypt on G1 with 95% odds.
Germans lose 29 IPC and the ability to threaten Egypt on G1.
Note that the Ukraine fighter can not reach Egypt so killing it, or not, on R1 has no real impact on a G1 Egypt attack.
I’m not saying if an R1 Ukraine attack is bad or good, but hurting G1’s Egypt chances is not a factor in that analysis.

The rule book (on page 6 � HOW THE WAR IS WON) will eventually be corrected to read:
On the map are thirteen victory cities crucial to the war effort. As the game begins, the Axis controls 6 of these cities and the Allies control 7 of them. The Allies begin the game controlling Washington, London, Leningrad, Moscow, Calcutta, Honolulu, and San Francisco. The Axis powers begin the game controlling Berlin, Paris, Rome, Shanghai, Manila, and Tokyo. The standard victory condition is if your side controls three more total victory cities than it started with (9 for the Axis or 10 for the Allies) at the end of a complete round of play (after the completion of the U.S. turn), you win the war.
Page 23 (WINNING THE GAME) will also be corrected. The third column in the chart will read “9 for Axis and 10 for Allies” (or something similar) and “13”.
You should also note that the German and UK starting IPCs as listed on page 6 are incorrect. Germany should read 41 (not 40), and the UK should read 31 (not 30).

LOL, right you are. I was looking at the setup pictures and not the cards and mistook the new AA piece for an Art.
Yeah, it does not seem worth it to try and do a two transport attack on the East Indies.
Using the India transport on Borneo might be worth it, depending on what else is going on. 2Inf vs 1Inf is a gambit, but the 4 IPCs might make it worth it. Though I would not go for 1 IPC New Guinea with the Australia transport. While there is no place it can run that Japan can’t get to, depending on where it goes Japan would have to either weaken another attack like Pearl to get it, and/or pull units out of postition to get it.
Also, I think with the victory city misprint, the victory conditions are too easy. We won the game with Washington, San Francisco, Manilla, Calcutta, Moscow, Rome, Paris, London, Honolulu.
I thought the Allies needed ten Victory Cities to win, only the Axis can win with just nine? Or is that what you mean by misprint since apparently that was a post printing clarification.
Related question. Â If the UK does attack the East Indies fleet with all that can reach, including the Egypt Fighter, should they also load up the two transports and try and take the East Indies as well?
If they win the sea battle (estimated upthread at 60%) then 1 Art 3 Inf vs 2 Inf should result in a UK win on the island. Â Seems a risky play though because in the 40% of the time the battle goes bad all those troops are dead. Â I think even if you retreat the transports before they die the troops can not unload, so Japan would sink the loaded transports on J1.
~~Right you are, Pearl light would be down a fighter as well.~~ Edit: Actually, no, it wouldn’t necessarily. You could send the fighter under the assumption that it will live and you will win, and reinforce with the carrier if the fighter survived. But if you took the fighter as a casualty, you could move the carrier anywhere you wanted. Might be a high price to pay, but still possible.
You are completely right. I probably blocked that possibility out of my mind because I hate that rule. If I was made King of A&A the rule would be that all fighters must have a legal landing place at the end of the combat move. A much simplier and easier to police rule. No more saying what your CVs will do during noncombat to make your fighter’s move legal. Either the CVs make the move during the combat move phase, or the fighters can not make the move themselves.
But UK cannot actually kill the Japanese sub unless the Japanese player is a fool - Subs can always choose to submerge before combat. Unless you have a destroyer, you can never guarantee combat with a sub.
Right again, and I thought of this after I posted. I think in an earlier version of A&A there would always be one round of combat before subs could submerge and that probably confused me.
As for East Indies, I think Germany will now be forced to throw ALOT at Egypt on G1- including at least 2 fighter or the fighter and bomber to guarantee that the UK fighter dies. Â Once the fighter is gone, it looks like a foolish UK player who would throw down against the Indies fleet.
I don’t think Germany can get any fighters to Egypt on the new map. The only air they can get there is the bomber. Fighters on Italy or Southern Europe could get there, but the German setup has no aircraft in either location. I do agree that a UK attack on the East Indies without the Egypt fighter is not a good one. They would probably lose everything and only kill 2 fighters. Probably not a good trade off even if the US is committed to KJF.
Japan no longer has the option to send the BB from SZ 60 to Hawaii anymore, so there is no longer a Pearl Heavy option. Â best pearl 2 is now 1 CV, 2 fighters, 1 bomber (ending in Wake or Solomans), 1 sub and 1 cruiser, and more likely than not the Carrier will hold back for a pearl light. Â It’s certainly an interesting opening setup… Â
Also, unless I am miscounting somewhere, if Japan does hold back the carrier at Pearl, they can only get one fighter to the battle. There is no fighter, other than the one in SZ50, less than 4 spaces from SZ53.
So if they hold back the CV, it is
1 fighter, 1 bomber, 1 sub and 1 cruiser
vs.
1 Fighter, 1 CV, 1 sub and 1 destroyer
Japan should win that but they probably take two casualties, maybe 3 if some luck is on the US side.
On the bright side, the UK has no way to reinforce the Pearl fleet on UK1. Though they could try and weaken Pearl2 by killing the Japan sub with 1 cruiser, 1 sub from Australia if they forego the East Indies attack.
Gargantua’s answer was clear and 100% correct.
If the UK wants to use a US TRN to move from one land zone to another it will take two turns. On UK1 they load onto the TRN. On US1 the TRN moves from the loading land zone to the target land zone (even if both land zones are adjacent to the same seazone such that the TRN never moves spaces on the game board). On UK2 the units debark.

My first impulse is to laugh, but maybe there’s something to it? Where do they build it? Baltic or Arctic?
One of the main people proposing this is not buying “all navy” on R1.
His proposal, from what I gather, is as follows:
On R1, assuming G1 looks like a possible sealion set up, buy 1DD, 2SS (in the Arctic) and a mix of land units.
UK1 buy ground defense in London. Claim Eire. Move most of Med fleet to z92.
US1 buy 3 Bombers, remaining money can be 2DDs or a Carrier, but the US should be preping to have a Carrier in z102 on US2.
If Germany buys the transports for sealion on G2, then
R2 buys 1 Bomber, the rest land units. Move Arctic fleet out to Altantic in range of z110.
UK2 mass surviving Atlantic and Med fleets in z109 supplement with SS purchases, maybe a DD. Have some land forces is Scotland and Eire and try to have 2-3 fighters in Scotland. Move bomber to Iceland.
US2 buy 3 more bombers in East US (total of 7 there now). Remaining money is 2 DD or a CV for the Pacific. Move a Carrier (and maybe Pacific BB as well) to z102 with Fighter/Tac.
After a successful G3 sealion, Russia, US, and UK do a three-way attack on the German fleet in z110.
Russia can bring 3 SS, 1 DD, 1 Bomber.
US can bring 7 Bombers, 1 Fighter, 1 Tac.
UK can bring a mix of fleet, some fighters, a Tac, and a Bomber. The exact mix depends on results of earlier battles and buys.
One of my concerns with this plan is it leaves London so light on ground forces that Germany can afford to divert some transports and air cover to z119 to take Eire and Scotland on G3, depriving the US bombers of a landing zone. Not sure if this a real concern though, since Germany would have to divert at least 3, maybe more, transports to take both territories and a fair amount of air to cover the possible scramble from Scotland. And any transports sent to z119 will die on one of R3, US3, or UK3.
The other concern is Germany goes Barbarossa starting in G2 after seeing the R1 buy. Though in this case it is not like the Russian navy is useless. It can convoy Norway, forcing DD purchases if Germany wants to clear, and/or provide padding to allied fleets in the Atlantic or Med allowing them to make earlier advances in those areas, and/or serve as a can opener for allied fleets. Yes, boots on the ground would be more useful for Russia in the face of Barbarossa, but the fleet isn’t useless. And the US1 purchase can quickly swing to the Pacific if need be after Germany abandons sealion.
Ummm, I don’t the question is asking what Axis country you like to play, it is asking what Axis country you try to defeat first when you are the Allies.
Why are you rolling your fighter at 4? Don’t they attack with a 3?
(Not that it mattered this combat, but something like that could really screw up a combat down the road, forcing a full redo).

Since both z93 and z94 are occupied with enemy ships to start I1, I don’t think you can do a combat move to z92 on I1.
Also, since the UK did not repair the airbase, I don’t think they have the option to scramble into z110, so you don’t need to wait to resolve that battle.
Sorry to butt in, but here are detailed steps I used to open the file.
Download ABattleMap 0.80 installer from http://www.abattlemap.com/ and install it.
You can install it any directory but my examples will assume you pick the default location of C:\Program Files\ABattleMap
Download http://www.axisandallies.us/GA3.zip and extract the contents into a directory called GA3.gim under the ABattleMap install directory, for example C:\Program Files\ABattleMap\GA3.gim\
The directory will have a number of files and directories for example C:\Program Files\ABattleMap\GA3.gim\MapInfo.txt
Download G1.AAM file uploaded by corriganbp on this thread. Save it somewhere on your computer, for instance in My Documents\gamefiles then launch AbattleMap and do File -> Open and browse to G1.AAM
